What I don't get is how Ellroy's mother' murder when he was 10 yrs old 'bethrothed' him to a life of 'crime and twisted sexuality in a heartbeat.' Why? It sounds to me like an escapist rant by a charismatic orator, always unchallenged on the audience/ tv promo circuit.

The guy is hard to watch.. and he is hard to listen too. I can't help but like him though. I don't agree with him when it comes to his politics or his opinions on Bukowski. Bukowski is my all time favorite writer. Ellroy isn't even half the writer. But I really like some of his books. "The Black Dahlia" is powerfull. It's hard hitting, and I couldn't put it down. Ellroy is a freak... but he knows it.
