I hate this fukn bird and the stupid sound it makes,its so annoying. I will try and record the sound from this video and play it out loud in the backyard. Hopefully it will attract these ferals so i can shoot them with my bb gun.
The lady at QP&W said the cooing thing is that he is announcing that he is ready for some lovin. They can reproduce any time of the year, they can have three broods a year. As for keeping a mate for life, BS, they shag anything and everything. I've seen two males having a go at one female a few times. These are the nastiest birds imaginable. And as for the Dove being the bird of love. They're really pigeons. Yes, Bart Simpson said it right, "Flying disease bags".
I've talked with Queensland Parks and Wildlife, the very nice lady said that they are an introduced species and considered a "feral pest". I asked her what that meant, she said that they are protected by the same laws that protect the cane toad. Meaning you really need to kill them on site. She said to kill as many of them any way you can. They carry disease and take food and habitat away from native species.
cameron is absolutely correct. These things need to all die. Those of you that yammer on how wonderful they are, haven't lived in a neighborhood that is infested with these flying rats. Imagine this scenario, at 4:30 in the morning they start cooing. On all 4 sides of the house. The cooing doesn't stop, no weekends, no vacations, no holidays. Every day, all day, until the sun goes down. Like your neighbors little yapping dog... all day, all for sides, every day. Nothing you can do.

These birds were very common in the Los Angeles area up until about the mid 1990s. The sound of this bird takes me back to the carefree days of childhood summers.
Circa 2005 I heard a call in the Hazard Park area of Los Angeles near USC University Hospital. I was shocked....but that was it. I haven't heard a spotted dove since.
I would love to know if any other parts of the LA area still are home to these birds.
@davethestoner - If it was a piece of sh**, it would have been excreted and have gone through the digestive system. It wouldn't have any of the organs it has and it wouldn't be able to make the noise shown on the video. Now, I know you mean that metaphorically lol, but even so - there is no link between the bird and "a piece of sh**. Please back up your argument before making invalid, thoughtless comments about these amazing birds.

Their repetitive, boring call is almost as shit as they look. I'm in Australia, and we have brilliant wildlife, native pigeons and doves included.. but this travesty, does not count. It's introduced garbage and has no place here. I used to shoot these things as a kid, and my only regret is that I didn't cap a few more.
