i was there for him through his recovery as much as i could be, it wasnt until months later that we split up. hes ok, he got a medical discharge and will have a good scar from his hip to his knee and on both sides of his calve. along with a good limp but hes alive and well =) we still talk occasionally. he understands we were too young to deal with his families problems though id imagine
