  • SOS MAN! - coupld you please tell me how to wrap an image around my CAD model.Need it ASAP ! Will be grateful......!

  • search for the video I created entitled:

Apply transparent image in CATIA V5

it should put you on the right path.

  • cool...so dude, are you at the UK? and do you work with a DS re-seller?

  • @partha3030150

I'm based out of Toronto, Canada. I work for a DS training center

    Maverick Solutions

  • Thanks I just figured how to do it on sketch tracer...........yeah man manybe you're right...but again, SPACE SHIP ONE is 90% SolidWorks is what I hear

  • @partha3030150

1-Sketch Tracer would do it but there's a simpler way: I just created this video to show how to do it.

    search for this video title:

CATIA V5 - How to Transfer 2D elements to Part Sketch. (give a few hours to process)

2- They may do some parts of Space Ship One in SWX. But Trust me they use CATIA, I did the training for them.

  • Why are so many things that work as "common sense" so simple on SolidWorks so very difficult to do on CATIA ? (No I have not worked a lot more on SolidWorks than I have in CATIA)

Will be grateful if somebody answered asap...

  • @partha3030150

It's true SWX is simpler to use on most tasks. V5 is a specialty CAD software that does the advanced stuff really well. A case in point: Surfacing. When I work with Auto and Aerospace models, I'll only use CATIA

  • SolidWorks Kicks ass !

CATIA is an old lady now...needs to get in shape.

For the love of God could anybody here PLEASE tell me how to paste curves from a drawing file in CATIA into another Catia Wireframe/part file as a sketch so that I could use the curves...?

  • that was amazing.

    CAD the ultimate time saver

  • i work in a machine shop. we are as9100 certified and have made some real complex parts. the engineers there all use solid works and we never have problems. why do so many people argue over cad software so much. at the end of the day whatever you make on any cad software system just goes on to a blueprint then gets machined. so who gives a fuck if catia is better then solidworks or vice a versa.i have both catia and solidworks. personally i hate catia. but it doesnt matter. just get the job done

  • I provided this guy here the CAD file and asked him for help on this topic. He did. This guy here sure knows what he do. How about you? So, don't just go judge other people. You don't expect someone to learn CATIA overnight. Everyone's gotta start somewhere.

  • ok, it was never my intention to ofend anyone, nor to appear like i know everything because i surely have a lot more to learn, learning is a never ending process. i just wanned to give you an advise from personal experience, if that did not help, i will take it back. Also i dont have to prove you anything, i know what i know and im happy with that, and you know what else i know? I know that with that attitude you will never make it in industry, question your superiors and your career is over.

  • wow, thanks for taking time to help me out. I appreciate it very much.. Now i have to go install solidworks on my pc. thanks a bunch.

  • jajjajaa, you dont have to istall solidworks on your pc. you can do all the things solidworks can do and much more in Catia V5. The cuestion is can you make it ? many people cant. It take years of experience and hard work to be really competent in catia.

  • I know that it takes years to learn the whole CAD software. You're right, not a lot of people know how to do it. i dont expect too much from myself, esp that i have done catia in my university for just 1 year. I know i still have much to learn.

  • you see all this people showing off here, with aircraft, cars, engines, that is only a small fraction of the hole engineering and design process, if applicable . Some of this people even though it may look like they have done an impresive work, in real life the design process is totally different and depends on many variables most of the time their work end up in the garbage can. The trick is begin small, with small projects that you can have control of, small mechanisms.

  • Go in depth, as with regards to tolerances, fittings, manufacturability, simplicity of design, then in your system explore drawings, try to do very detailed working drawings of your design, exploted views of your assemblies keep in mind the fabricators making your parts have no clue whatsoever of the design of your mechanism so make your drawings as simple as posible. This will benefit you 100% more than the guys here making aircraft, or car "Shells" without a clue of what they are doing.

  • No offence to you but,you dont know anything about this tutorial. I requested this tutorial for academic purposes and not for "fabrication purposes" as you may say. At least this guy here is trying to help. How about you? So don't try to brag as if you know everything. Show it. The videos you see here are tutorials and not real world engineering projects. You should know better than that.
