I never knew until now that Corny Bumpus did the "Jesus He's My Friend" lines at times. For me he gave it a very black gospel texture which gave the song a different texture. Pretty far removed from the Byrds version. But I say it's an improvement. What do you guys think?

For the record, that's not Bobbie behind the congas. That's Jimi Fox, who played with the Patrick Simmons in his solo effort "Skin Suit", then continued on with the Doobies after Bobbie left.
