@Fred111000 it does when your in the field m8!! Physically men will be able to acomplish more as our bodies are built that way... If this wasn't the case, then females would have the same physical standards as men
@chelsea4life11 It does in a relative way, see as technology evolves and war becomes every day more of "pushing a button" it matters less and less wether it is a male or a female to push it. The days of hand-to-hand combat and cqc are long gone, making physical strength useless IMO.
@fightingforpride thats what they do m8, i've trained with them...this was just a lesson with the locals...the marine program has boxing, kickboxing, juijitsu, wrestling in it
karate was designed to kill a samurai in armour with a punch or kick. if it didn't take a life time to master it would be a very good choice for soldiers. still a very good art to practice even in the short term.
twd is a olympic sport an a art same with mma it uses the best parts of many different arts an combines what works to the fighters style an throws away the unnessary crap thats what being a martial artist is all about be like water be everything but be nothing use what works for you an throw away what does not work for you
MMA is nothing new; look @ American Kenpo and Jeet Kun Do or Chun Kuk Do, Lua...; Hybrid styles of martial arts have been around long before the marketing campaign.....I personally practice American Kenpo we throw away a lot of fanciness that is found in other arts, but a Kenpo artist would have a hard time fighting MMA with all the strike limitations.......KENPOIST don't play.....we are likely to serious mame someone.
i dont know about that. BJJ and Muay Thai are sport- oriented, were traditional karate was developed for battlefield combat. this is excactly what the marine corp is looking for: battlefield efficiancy.

So what? Better technique is better technique regardless of where it is used. A boxing punch works better than a karate punch. BJJ works better than Japanese JJ. Everything evolves. No one uses a sword and shield on the battlefield anymore but at one time they where proven. Martial arts have evolved and traditional karate is obsolete.
well don't be so quick to write off traditional martial arts as obsolete. for one thing, BJJ has great ground work, but almost no throwing or standing locks and self-defense. second, boxing only utilizes the hands, were karate uses all of the body. second of all, in sport martial arts you only learn how to fight one person, while in traditional and street oriented martial arts teach you how to be aware of everything. this also goes for armed assailants. thanks for your input, though, God bless!

BJJ, combined with boxing or kickboxing, provides all the necessary striking and grappling skills. Standing locks aren't really necessary for self defense.
@lagook never try a knife disarm unless you must and u will most likely get cut i have over 17 years of training including MCMAP as i am a 0311 rifleman USMC, and karate is beautiful however knives and rifles change the rules my friend
Bjj has lots of standing techniques and plenty of throws as it is an offshoot of judo. The emphasis may change depending on where you train. some places are more sport oriented than self defense and vice versa
Muay Thai sport oriented??? apparently u dnt know wat muay thai is capable of.. Originally Muay thai was created for war ( Muay Boran "ancient boxing", an unarmed combat used by Siamese soldiers) not for the ring. Back then, many died learning muay thai. King Rama the VII pushed for codified rules for Muay Thai, and they were put into place. These included the rules that the fighters should wear modern gloves and cotton coverlets over the feet and ankles. Karate for combat?
That's pathetic. I understand the whole need to practice real life situations vs. being in a cage but come on. Learn some real martial arts skills. BJJ is a nice addition to MCMAP but at least teach it. Just look at that shitty as armbar at 0:16
Ur right but what does the war have anything to do with martal arts. i dont know y we need to bring it up its just going to start up another series of debates over youtube about some silly war bush started that marines including myself had to fight
Is that typical of americans? You start something and when the going gets tough you chicken out and leave things half done. You ran out of korea, then vietnam, now Iraq. A couple of years more you'll be running out of afghanistan too. Each time, you come out with an excuse to chicken out. I suppose for all his rhetoric, this is the direction Obama is going to take because he's never been where they dish out shit by the truckload. At the very least McCain seems to have the balls to take a stand.
I'm an American and I have to say, I see your point...but I'm left wondering why are we still there if there's nothing really to be gained? Then again, start what you finish.
lol, jiujitsu effective for anything other than one on one I don't think so...I don't wanna be stabbed hit kicked or shot because I'm trying to hold a choke, submission or waiting to hyperextend a major joint. US Marines hand to hand is mediocore at best. Pekiti tersia kali, wing chun or israeli krav maga are effective as are the troops using them. Try a culture exchange with the philipenes instead of japan and their M.A ability will increase 10x

Krav Maga or Jiu Jitsu or nothing.

@itchykami MCMAP & Kajukenbo are very good for overall self defense..Jiu Jitsu does not work on pavement
chelsea4life11 1 year ago
@chelsea4life11 They're in combat armor, so Jiu Jitsu is far more appropriate for them. I still put my money in Krav Maga the most, however.

What are these marines going to learn from traditional karate? Their time would be better spent learning BJJ, Sambo, or Muy Thai.

i dont know about that. BJJ and Muay Thai are sport- oriented, were traditional karate was developed for battlefield combat. this is excactly what the marine corp is looking for: battlefield efficiancy.

BJJ and Muy Thai are way more efficient than traditional karate, which is why the first two are used in NHB and the latter is not.
mattm1836 3 years ago
...which is yet again a sport situation. not a battlefield situation.
