I really would like to thank you, Dave and Fran and John for the absolutely wonderful sounds you produce. I listen to you three almost everyday and I totally enjoy every minute of it. I was hoping Dave that you would put out a CD with Stateside and A11 on it. You and John are the best and I love to watch you guys play. Thanks again!
I really love your playing I think Im going to give steel guitar try Iv'e always loved it since I was a kid but never thought that I would never be able to play one what do you recomend for my first steel guitar? I am definatly taking lessons too.I've been playing guitar for 20 years and bass for 5 years.
Thank you David ,My Dad (Rip ) got me stuck on the steel many years ago he was a huge Ray Price fan and after he left the USAF we moved to MD where every Sat. he would take me to Havre DE Grace Record shop he had an old Gretch with a Bigsby tail piece and he was remarkable esp being self taught,if not the Cherokee Cowboys he would intro me to,The Troubadours ,loved Jerry Byrd ,Jimmy Day Emmons, Myrick etc its times like tonight when I wish we could listen to you I know he would love it , Thanks
I wish to thank you all for your comments to my youtube broadcasts. It is very much appreciated. I do try and contact you all personally if there's any questions that I have been asked, and I also make note of all your requests too. I have some great ideas for future videos and I will try and play some of your requests also.
Hi David and All You Steel Guitar Fans: Thanks you posting this great creativity.. I will continue listening to your music-and-arraingments, into the New Year.. It takes me back into my youth and (into the '60's) when I was a Bar Room Bass Player.. Two Thumb's Up, on this stuff.. AND... Happy New Year to you all.. woxnerw
ah probably ate road and band playing is no picnik but I used to go abnd watch them and am getting better some 40 years be as good as you lol lol lol Reverbie65
I just listened to some other steel pickers (some famous) and I came back here to clear out my ears. Dave's the best I've ever heard........bar none.
I am really too overwhelmed at the moment to say much. I guess it's easiest to say I was totally captivated by your style and abilities on your pedal steel guitar.. Words cannot express how much I loved hearing many of your clips this evening. Sign me up... I'm definitely your newest fan! Thank you.
When I say that back in the day I was a disc jockey at the only country station in a small city in Alabama, I mean with real, black vinyl records and I've heard some of the best. This encompasses both on record and in person. Dave is as good as I've ever heard...bar none.
Dave, I have a soft spot in my heart for this tune. Our band always had it on our set lists . Really enjoy your interpretation(I got some ideas after watching your rides). Thanks as always, Jack
David, this brings back such memories! When I was little, Mom and Dad would take my sister and I to the square dance at our little country school in Ohio. They are both gone now, but I thank you so much for posting this. The band would play songs like this, and what and what an enjoyable stroll down memory lane this has brought me.Thanks again, David. You are indeed a gifted musician. Keep up the good work, and happy new year to you, sir.
Dave: That has to be one of the BEST steel solos for "Pick me up on your way down," that I've ever heard. Just awesome. Love how you got the "ringing" effect in here & there.
Julienneleblanc I'd like to hear him play Jambalaya too. Once upon a time I used to fly my little 172 over to Lafayette from Dothan, Alabama and visit friends in Big Mamou. I heard a lot of good Cajun music while I was there.....ate lots of crawfish too. good times.
I finally figured out how Dave has the "soul" to play country music like this. He must have eaten greens, corn bread, fried chicken and black eyed peas as a youngster...and washed it down with SWEET iced tea. I ate the same stuff and I can't play a note.
@SpeedyNeutrino43 I have my own idea which is probably as ridiculous as yours.I reckon that David like most good pedal steelists has 5 brains. One for each foot and hand and a main controlling one to keep the other 4 in order! The closest I can get to this sort of sound on a 6-string is with gated compression,a lot of reverb and risky string-bending.....a dodgy menu maybe...but who'd have thought curry with sliced ripe bananas would work before they tried it!?Good stuff DPS
I've heard Buddy Emmons, Weldon Myrick and Lloyd Green and THIS guy is the equal of any of them...maybe better, What phrasing and clean playing. Dave, you're a phenomenon. I can't stay away from this site.
Well, Dave Hartley, pretty much one rave revue after another and... you deserve everyone of them! If you need a job, just take which ever one you want because there isn't anybody that wouldn't hire you! I found your playing to be inspiring, up-lifting and a real pleasure, all at the same time. Thank you very much, John / AKA Jumpngojo
Fantastic playing. I've been playing lead guitar for close to 50 yrs and have tried the steel , but you make me sound like a beginner.. Great playing..
Been listening to steel posts for several months now and just recently started catching up on your library. Just fantastic, beautiful music Dave. Thanks for sharing!
Hi, a Boss DD-2 set at 9 or 10 oclock, off, 11oclock , 12oclock (thats the knobs from left to right). I usually keep settings here and add little or more reverb after (post) delay, David Hartley
correct me if im wrong but i see a Boss DD-2 or DD-3 to Davids right, and i apoligize that i called the Rains 8 string vice 10, but i play lap steel so yah gotta forgive me. This man makes yah wanna save up for a Rains, he's totally awesome Jimbo from Montana
David, I have to run to keep up with you. But that's okay, keep 'em coming and I'll keep running.
Question: What made you decide to buy a Rains steel? I had never even heard of a Rains till I found you on Youtube. It is a great sounding steel. What type of amp do you play thru? I have a Nashville 112 that does a great job.
Thanks for the music, David. It is a very special gift that you give to us.
Hi Chuck. It was after a few weeks of enquiring on the steel guitar forum. It was the private emails that explained so much into these guitars that got me to buy one. I have never regretted it. Get to play one sometime and you will know what I mean.112's?, OK but not for me, I have always used a 15" speaker. More 'punch' and 'depth'. I use Evans now, Very light to carry too. Regards David.
David, I think this is one of your best yet. Being as this is one of my favorite songs. Seems like I never get to play an instrumental of this because some singer always gets in my way. hehe.
This is so nice ti list too thanks Annette
