As a 20-year U.S Marine...all of it working on Harriers...its a sad day. I do have some inside knowledge on why the Brits scrapped the program. It is all due to fiscal problems thats afflicting every country. The Harrier, despite its many advantages and defenders was and continues to be expensive to support. There are problems with obsolescence issues with components, systems, and suppliers willing to make complex and expensive parts in small runs.
what have you replaced the Harrier with my English friends? Do you have another jump jet? and are you selling the old ones to Canada :P we buy everyone's old shit...
The plan was for Britain to buy the F-35B Lightning II (JSF) which is the VSTOL version of the F-35, now all that is in doubt. The rumor is that they are backing off the VSTOL version altogether and are now considering the F-35C (the Naval version - no VSTOL capability) and in greatly reduced numbers than originally planned. So what happens to the RAF/RN Harriers? You Brits are going to be so pissed! The U.S is acquiring all of them to include spares for almost nothing! Used for spare parts!
Great video, so many great memories of an iconic aircraft, sad to see it end its service but lets not forget what a great service it has been. Hats off to the politicians who are doing a grand job of destroying everything that was Great about Britain!
Fantastic compilation of a sad moment in British Aviation History. The Harrier IS the ultimate accolade of British Aeronautical engineering. Thanks for putting together a great film of its last days. The comms chatter makes it even more evocative!
So sad to see them go! wish i could of seen the fly 1 last time! such an amazing aircraft harrier you will be missed the sound the shape and the beauity! gone form our skys
Another fine aircraft bites the dust to pay for the mess this country is in SAD DAY!!

Thank you for this vid.
Never was a huge Harrier fan (only liked the old T-10`s) and the flying they did on the Nordhorn range, but its still sad to see such a icon go.
Tomcat, Phantom, Corsair, etc etc they are all gone :( and now we can add the loudest bastard in the skies to that list.
Long live the Harrier!
