@DickKnowsBest Well antiglare screens are not umbrellas but they don't act like mirrors + some old spectrometer do not plays well with glass screens.
In adition to the antiglare screen, I suggest you to find some shading for your open window, a curtain or some stores (I' keep my window open all the year because I do smoke :-/ )
But you may eventually keep the glass screen and opt for some antglare sticker for big screens (like the ones for iPhone/iPad but bigger and harder to apply)
Finally some good quality pictures of the anti-glare screen. Pics don't do it justice though. It looks way better in person. The screen looks just like my 30'' Apple Cinema Display and it's about the same quality as well. After profiling the screen, it's great for pro photo work.
i wish i had this computer. i have a 17 inch matte one from late 06 with a 2.33 core 2 duo, 3gb ram, and a 160gb 5400 rpm that i'm going to replace with a 250 7200 rpm. It runs great though, i love having the expresscard that the new 15 and 13 inch lacks, and i love the full size DVI, no dongles needed.
@SoloReviews It's a slot on the side of the computer either 54 or 32 mm wide, the macbooks use a 32, and it allows for insertable items that would be the equivelant of an item using a PCIe slot. you can put in SSD's an eSata adapter, Firewire 800 if you need another port, verizon and other make 3g mobile cards for there, they are much faster than USB 2.0.
I took out a $3,600 Loan at the Credit Union to get this I am so glad it was accepted my first loan! lol Gonna get the 17" MacBook Pro Glossy screen (I compared and it looked just as good) 3.06Ghz Core 2 Duo, 256GB SSD, the HP Printer that wireless one, and the Apple Remote. I just wish it had Blu-Ray it's not too big of a Deal. I have a Vaio AW 290 Laptop that can read/wright Blu-Ray and still i have only used that to Watch Coraline ONCE and i have had it since March of 09' lol but still :/
how is the anti glare working for you? do you get the same new features as the glossy like the added gamut? ...hope you're enjoying it..its definatly the most solid laptop i have ever used
This screen is fantastic, this Laptop screen is the best I've ever used, Not having used Unibody's with glass screen, I only can make the assumption that the glass only add the so loved wizzbang contrast that make faded pictures looks correct and correct picture even more poppy, and off course nearly impossible to make accurate color correction on it.
This one is accurate (can be calibrated), color rich (no banding in radial gradient), luminous (I do see something I use it in sunny places : yes we had some real suny days over here :P), in darker surrounding I do need tho to heaviy lower the brightness to not suffer from instant blindness :P
For the sake of argument, even if this Laptop LCD (LED Backlit) is the best one I've used, some Desktop Are still better and more suitable in precises color color correction jobs (and no I'm not talking about those cheap ass LCD Screen, I'm talking about those professionnal grade screen starting from 800$ : Apple LED display being the entry level of those professionnal screens (The price difference comes LED Backlighting, Webcam, USB Hub, internal speakers and aluminium casing))
can someone please help me i bought dell xps studio 16 and i am returning it to get a macbook pro 15 can someone please tel me if i am doing the right thing?
First you need to know if you meet the return term/policy of Dell, then ask yourself if you do have the budget for the MacBook Pro and if the specs of the MacBook Pro 15" (entry model or higher model) meets your needs and expectations
if you need informative links/advices send me a PM with the product page of your Dell, the ammount of your budget, if you're a student and a summarized list of the apps you'll use with It.
Long story short the physical assembly is like the old one (exept for the rubber all around the bezel as if It was a Glass panel)
The thing being that the the anti-glaire coating on the plastic foil seems to be much better quality thant the one from Aluminium models (even if this one is still in aluminium It's being called Unibody)

Depends on what you'll do with it and if you won't make a better use of that money (300-800$ difference in price from base 15 to stock 17).
If you do have classes of CGI why not, but if you'll only take notes and do non-graphic related work or can do It by hooking a bigger screen to It in labs or at you flat/home, a 15" will be sufficient (can upgrade the high 15" to 2.93GHz).
As I said earlier 17" is hard to fit on some amphithatre table/tablets. you need comfi place to use it...
Just a question, do you go to college with this? How does this fit in there? Like, people say you need light notebooks for college because you're going to be traveling a lot and taking notes, etc.
he does not use this for travelling that much, if u buy a 17inch its a ,portable workstation. ur not gonan travel with this. if u do travel, its either the 13inch macbook or 15 inch macbook pro.
(to commenter DRBUK) HA! I have a 18.4" Vaio AW Laptop I travel a lot with it. it's wonderful and it fits in my Targus 17" Bag (I Was Surprised) it is no trouble what so ever to take everywhere. and the 17" is easy to!
I am getting this 17" Anti-Glare MacBook Pro 3.06Ghz 128GB SSD I hope this week. I saw the Glossy at Best Buy it does look better in person than in pics and vids!!! you should really see it in person people! i like them both
I do work outside or in other workplace with It (better than having to carry a MacPro+Screen or even an iMac)
If you do "only" take notes outside, take a smaller one (13" or 15") even if the 17 could do the job, and unless you're 2meters tall, It will be an PIA to work with in narrow spaces, and more difficult to protect (big surface : easiers way to crack It)
But if you move from comfortable workspace to comfortable workspace, why not.
There is a guy at my study who's whole laptop is shiny. He wanted to show the group some files and I really had trouble reading it. Isn't gonna happen with a matte screen (unless your standing to far ofc.)
Very Nice laptop, I hope to get my hands on one soon in one of our retailer stores. BTW, just wanted to ask... What is your profession? Where do you work? Video, Photo, Graphic Designer, etc.?
I'm an independent graphic designer (from photo only to vector/bitmap 2D, print to 3D VFX, as long I can get the job done no mater the things I have to learn (exept music : I don't have the rythm and programming, even if I can work with programmers and understand their coding).
DOn't forget that this is a Mobile workstation not a desktop one, eve if It's on par (CPU wize) with the iMac at the same speed, It still sports a 2.5" HDD (1 bottleneck untill you get an SSD : Intel, Samsung or one of ttheir rebranded)
Also the MiniDisplay Port need a 99€ adaptator to support Apple's 30" at native resolution (no prob for old or new 24")
It is nice to be able to do renders on It, but if you do have access to a proper desktop workstation or more desktop machines, the better.
In my opinion, it's a matter of perspective. There are some people who aren't bothered by the glare from a glass or glossy screen, and if that's fine with them, ok. For me, I don't like the glare at all. You should go check it out at the Apple Store. Try going to one that has windows, because some Apple stores try placing them away from the light. However, I recommend the matte screen.

lorikzzz 3 years ago
Because the anti-glare part is like on the "old" one !!!
Exept the fact that the LCD underneath is like I only saw on Pro desktop Screen (brighter, and with a much wider Gamut)
For the rest, It feels, It is, and act like NO old at all

Is the screen LED?
simonholmedal 3 years ago
Exept for the old MacBook [non pro] white (the plastic one Apple kept as 1K$ model), EVERY current notebook from Apple sport LED backlit* display.
No Screen is LED, all on computers Are still LCD, only the backlight can be LED for the newer models or for the "old" one, CCFL.
I'll add that to theinfo box , thanks
Cheers
