Totally awesome is QUEEN. Even from back in the late 60s when they were college buds playing ORIGINAL rock music at frat parties, local pubs & whatnot...in fact, QUEEN is the ONLY rock band that can boast that ALL 4 members are actual college graduates, majoring in music which, explains THE GREATEST ROCK BAND OF ALL TIME. Sorry but, it's true - the Stones, Zeppelin, Boston, Rush - you name 'em - NONE of them can compare to the virtuosos that are QUEEN!! Only the Beatles can MAYBE come close!
This is the music that made me the biggest Queen freak alive. Something happened though. I don’t know if it was the 80’s, old age, or AIDS, but their music began to suck donkey dicks. I have to erase all that shit in my mind they did after the 70’s or I forget they were once the best. I can’t listen to that worthless shit they did in the 80’s but I can listen to this forever. I wonder what makes such a good band turn to shit?
I feel totally, utterly, completely overwhelmed by the beauty of this song, can't help shedding a couple tears... guess I'm just too sentimental. This is an hymn to hope and love, an hymn to humanity.
Shizukana: silent yoi: night/dusk ni: in/at Hikario tomoshi Let our candle always burn Hikario: light/lamp tomoshi: turn on; conected with fire [very poetic expresion] Itoshiki oshieo idaki Let us never lose the lessons we have learned Itoshiki: lovely oshieo: a word from God/instructions/something given by a respected or highly educated person or persons [a very religion word] idaki: keep/have
The translation for Teo torriatte konomama iko is Teo Torriatte konomama iko Let us cling together as the years go by Teo: hand/hands [doesn't distinguish between number] Torriatte: hold konomama: as it is iko: go Aisuruhito yo Oh my love, my love Aisuruhito: to a loved one yo: dear Shizukana yoi ni In the quiet of the night
@wateralchemist94 Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure it's "te (w)o toriatte", which would most directly translate to holding hands. With the connotations, it's the same thing, though. And I could be wrong.
@GreatQueenFan I have seen a literal translation of it somewhere (can't remember where), and it was very close to the English chorus ("let us cling together as the years go by" etc). Assuming it was correct, that's pretty amazing, since they both rhyme.
@GreatQueenFan Googled "teo torriatte lyrics translation" and this was the link at the top of the page (I think) Teo Torriatte konomama iko Let us cling together as the years go by Aisuruhito yo Oh my love, my love Shizukana yoi ni In the quiet of the night Hikario tomoshi Let our candle always burn Itoshiki oshieo idaki Let us never lose the lessons we have learned so its just the chorus in japanese
@GreatQueenFan It is Japanese, and I have translated it literally. Teo toriatte konomama iko Let us take our hands in hands, and keep going just like this Aisuruhito yo My beloved one Shizukana yoi ni In the quiet night Hikario tomoshi let us turn a light on Itoshiki oshieo idaki embracing precious lessons "itoshiki" is classical form of "itoshii" which usually used for beloved people such as "itoshii musuko (dear son)", "itoshii hito (dear heart/sweet)", or cherished memories.
This is such a sweet little song...with all of Freddie's power, and elegance...and same goes for Brian May...apparently Brian played piano on this song...I saw a concert video of him playing it and it's his hands playing this on the album too.
Just gave you the highest rating. You got some of the lyrics wrong but they were minor and you did a fantastic job conveying the meaning of this song. Well done.

@redblue200, yeah, it's pretty hard to know exactly since they don't have the alphabet as we do, so it's not that clear how to translate it =)
