Carter was President before the rise of what we now call "conservatives" and it was the South that voted overwhelmingly for one of their own. The rest of the country voted for the guy who was into beer and football. Ford lost mainly due to his pardoning of Nixon. Politics wasn't always so poisonous. Look at California. Home of Nixon and Reagan. Voted For Nixon twice, Ford, Reagan twice, GHW Bush. Then they voted for Clinton and all of the sudden they were called "The Left Coast".

Alot of people are demonizing President Carter for telling the TRUTH, and that in itself is quite disturbing to me. Jimmy Carter is FROM the South and at his age, im pretty sure if anyone would understand the issue, its definetely him. It should also be pointed out that the former president did NOT say that ALL opposition to President Obama was based on racism, he said, "....a significant portion...". and to deny this would be naive. However, all opposing views arent necessarily racist.
