Been really listening to this song a lot lately. Actually, I've kinda been obsessed with this whole album. Very underrated, in my opinion. Then again, I think every Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' song is pure brilliance. :)
This is my first time hearing this song. The guitars are too loud and need to be compressed. The vocals need to be in the front. It's poorly mixed. That rhodes organ could be cranking. Cool song. The mix sucks. Tom Petty is God of Rock 'n' Roll --for the record.
Good album. I bought his first LP in 77, so when this came out the local FM station played the entire album late at night, so I stayed up late and listened on headphones. Listen to Her Heart and I Need To Know got a fair amount of airplay in summer 78, but mainly on FM. Obviously this LP wasn't as big as the subsequent Damn the Torpedoes, but it did get airplay alongside Some Girls and Darkness on Edge of Town and other high-profile 78 releases.
Well this album preceded his massive success the next few yrs. We all know what happened from 1979 on. I don't think Tom could've even predicted it was gonna happen like it did. But yeah "You're Gonna Get It!" has quite a few good gems on it that don't get any airplay anywhere except for KSHE in St. Louis (who occasionally plays them.) "Restless" definitely qualifies. Just heard it on KSHE last Sun. I wonder if that cut should've been the hit off the LP? Thanks for posting. I fully enjoyed it.
If I had to choose the two most likely singles from the album, I'd go for "Magnolia" & "Restless". I think the former could have won over an American audience at the time.
Tom should've released this song as a single alongside "I Need To Know" & "Listen To Her Heart." Strong album cut from a very underrated & underappreciated album. This song should've been bigger.
You should upload the song" magnolia" off You're gonna get it album, one of his best songs and I can't find it on youtube?? ANY TAKERS !!

Yeah, I love it, but the copyright issues with Tom Petty stuff are pretty strict. I also really love No Second Thoughts.
Take care.

In a more perfect world, this would be an FM staple, but apparently it didn't catch radio programmer's ears. Or not enough payola.
