  • @luvintherawlife A Plant based diet saved my life!! I tell doctors and pharmaceutical companies to go to hell

  • When he shows the slide of the plaque rupturing I had a flashback of every cheeseburger I have ever eaten. I want some celery all of the sudden.

  • If we didnt eat meat then there wouldnt be a society !!!

  • Caldwell Esselstyn has similar finding to Max Gerson , so wonderful :)

See them both in the movie "Dying to Have Known" (2006) - it's great :)

  • Caldwell Esselstyn has similar finding to Max Gerson , so wonderful :)

  • GO VEGAN!

  • Dr. Esselstyn's program works extremely well in preventing and reversing heart disease. He has a book "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease."

I've happily been on whole food nutrition with no meat, fish, fowl, eggs, dairy, nuts, seeds, avocados, olives or OIL; have reversed my arterial plaques and feel great.

  • I have read his book : it might be good for people with heart condition . But NO meat, fish, cheese , olive oil ,eggs ,avocados...it seems exagerated !These choices are not explained much in the book. Moreover half of it is.. recipes! I would prefer a lot of vegetables and legumes ok with a little animal protein.

  • There's still a lot of debate among vegan advocating nutritionists about fats, actually... it's pretty evenly split. None of these doctors recommend eating "bad fats" like saturated fats or trans fats, but about half of them go farther and recommend no fat at all while others recommend "good fats" like olive oil, nuts and avacados. It's a bit confusing really. Maybe within another ten years there will be more of a consensus.

  • @Pilaf1984 Why wait 10 years? Do some research, the answers are clear, dedicate your self!

  • @Pilaf1984 First of all, saturated fat isn't "bad". We require some of it in our diets. Obviously, too much of it is not good, and trans fat should be avoided completely. Second, if you're eating a variety of whole foods, it's close to impossible to eat a diet containing ZERO fat. For instance, fruit gets about 9% of it's calories from fat, and vegetables also contain a small amount (obviously, it depends on the food). These lower percentages are more in line with what humans actually need.

  • @Pilaf1984 We don't need 30% of our daily calories from fat, like the USDA recommends (none of these doctors recommend that much). Third, while it's true there is some discrepancy about the details, do yourself a favor and focus on the SIMILARITIES, not the differences amongst all of this information. What's agreed upon is that a plant-based diet is the healthiest, and we should be eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, as they are the most nutritious foods on the planet.

  • @Pilaf1984 Also, there is a consensus that whole foods always preferable to refined foods, and thus, it's better to get fats from whole foods than to add fat to other things in its refined state (i.e. plant oils). But anyway, do continue to do your own research on this if you like, but don't obsess over the minute details.

  • (Alpine, TX: Jay) The diet works! I concluded I need extra protein, so, I include a protein shake (with vegan protein powder) each day, the best B-12 available (B-12 Forte, Hippocrates Institute), some V-pure vegan Omega-3s (from algae) & a quality vegan vitamin. Feel free to contact me with any questions (maybe I can answer them!): I am not trying to sell anything or make any money, but am happy to help and, obviously, happy to have my health back. Thanks to Headveg and Dr. Esselstyn J

  • does your doctor work for free? or your auto mechanic or anyone else?

  • Status. I started this Lifestyle in March.

    Wt: 193

    Total Cholesterol: 210

    Average Blood Pressure: 140/90

    After Diet

    Wt: 167

    Total Cholesterol: 120

    Average Blood PRessure 118/78

It works. I'm staying with it. I will not need meds for blood pressure or cholesterol as I would have. Thanks to you Dr. Esselstyn

  • @delafoo My stats BEFORE heart attack:

    Wt: 189

    Total Cholesterol: 107

    Average Blood Pressure 111/76

Not a joke, I was vegan and got a heart attack

  • @Inflamsx Interesting. Did you eat ANY oil? ANY refined foods at all? Was your MI diagnoses as being atherosclerotic or mechanical? And.... WAS a vegan? A junk-food vegan or a whole foods, plant based, absolutely zero refined foods with no salt, no oil vegan? One can be a Pepsi and cookies vegan, not that you were... your replies are welcome!

  • @delafoo I was 100% vegan, my diet consisted mainly of vegetables fruit and nuts and seeds. I only touched anything comming directly from a plant. I also eated sprouts and beans. But I have to nuancate , I got my heart attack 2 months later after the blood test was being done. during those 2 months I experienced high amounts of stress and I did not follow my eating plan 100% as I was sometimes eating alot of nuts and fruits.

  • @Inflamsx I guess it was the high amounts of brazil nuts combined with bananas that did it for me, aswell as the high amounts of stress. To give you an idea, there were days that I ate around 200 to 300 g of brazil and macademian nuts + around 8 banasas a day.

But yeah, I always been thought the nuts where actually good for the heart.

  • @Inflamsx Hmm. Well, very interesting. I would say you are an outlier (stastically) for sure. However, Dr. Esselstyn is a bit more strict in the typical vegan diet in that he advocates no nuts of any kind, no avacado, no oils, no salt. Did you/do you exercise regularly? Are you still vegan? What was done as treatment? Did you/Do you now have stress management techniques?... if you want to email me, email delabeaux2 at gmail.

  • @delafoo it works really !!! After a heart attack I got a stent and I had to stay with life long medical prescriptions ... until I started researching my self and I learned about the Esselstyn's + Campbell's + Gerson's + McDougall's and other therapies: all whole plant-based nutrition and now I don't need any drugs. SHAME OM THE MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT AND FARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY FOR THEIR MASSIVE "LEGALIZED" KILLINGS !!!

  • @delafoo, so which main foods are recommended and which main foods you are not allowed to eat?

  • @ihjmobile Recommended: Whole, plant based foods. Mostly anything unprocessed. Fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts in small quantities, legumes.

Not recommended: anything processed. Oil of any kind, refined sugars, meat of any kind. If it comes in a box, it's generally not good. There are a few whole grain oil free breads out there that are good. Lots of beans, rice, quinoa, fruits, veggies. Basically what we ate before Wal-Mart!

  • @delafoo, I really like potatoes as well, are cooked potatoes allowed (or baked). And Yogurt after evening meals or Sandwich Spread on bread in the morning? Thanks. This is very interesting since my father`s side have all been suffering from earlier death`s from heart attacks (mostly between 50/60). I`m tired of all these doctors telling you about medicines and never giving you any or much advice on healthy foods and lifestyles.

  • @ihjmobile Yep... Google Search Esselstyn Radiograph and then click on Images... about the 9th one down is radiographs of patients who have had REVERSAL of their atherosclerosis on this diet. Dr. Dean Ornish shows this too, better results than stents. This is why I am on this lifestyle. Both my grandfathers, two uncles and a cousin died relatively young of heart attacks. I refuse to be next!

  • meat is gona make your condition worse

  • Thanks, Newgtguy. I like the fact that you don't have to count calories, or look up points in a book. I eat 4 times a day and "fill up" each time but it's all healthy: oatmeal, veggies, fruit, beans, rice, salads, etc.

    Best to you too!

  • I thought I would try it for 3 weeks and see what happens. My friend (same age) had a heart attack with normal cholesterol and normal BP. That got me thinking.

After being on his diet (I was kind of hoping it wouldn't work so I could go back to my normal healthy diet -- Chicken, fish, olive oil, etc.)

Well, I'm sold. I'm sticking with it: My Cholesterol went from 185 to 126. My Trigl. went from 191 to 76 and I've lost 3 inches around my waist without dieting.

    My HDL stayed good: 51.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your success. My GF and started a plant-based diet 4 weeks ago and I'm seeing similar weight loss.

    Good luck to you!

  • Liked the video until it turned into a commercial to buy this book and/or CD set. Pay more money and get to live longer............

  • Dr. Esselstyn's book is definitely worth reading, but if you just want the simple rules of the diet, they are available on the internet. 1. no meat, poultry, or fish 2. no dairy 3. No oil whatsoever 4. Generally, no nuts or avocados. Things you can eat. 1. Any vegetable 2. Any bean 3. Any whole grain 4. All fruits. Thats it, pretty simple. The rest of the book is just recipes (which are actually very good), and explanations for why this diet is so good.
  • please tell me why not avocado??? its s fruit with lots of protein , isnt it?

  • too much fat calories.

  • @Dinuka81

I think avocado are fine. Just like with everything else, just don't overdo it. You do need some fat though. I'd much rather consume the fat from an avocado vs. a piece of bacon!

  • thanks. Oh yeah, animal fat is the worst. Should check Dr Campbell s report.

  • Avocado are a great heart food! Even though they are high in fat, the fat is good fat or mono-unsaturated which is good for your body. The issue is the calories because fat has nine calories per gram versus four calories for carbohydrates and protein. But the fat in avocados actually protect the body and the heart as it promotes heart health. All fat is not equal so please eat your avocados because they are great for your body.

  • thanks a lot . your information is very helpful.

  • Dr. Esselstyn and Dr. Campbell (China Study) said NO AVOCADOES. It is the only vegtable he does not want one to eat. Read his book: "Reversing Heart Disease" then you will understand instead of spouting off about things you do not know.

  • You are right, JD. Ignore the ads @6.48. Or go to Esselstyn's website for the no ad. one hour version. But consider the costs too -

The book - Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease - Caldwell Esselstyn - $10.85. It _does_ work - 3 years and counting, 50lb weight loss - a (happy) side-effect.

"Chest pains" - hospital tests - $12,000 bill. Angiogram - $15,000 bill. Angioplasty - 2%(?) death rate, Bypass 5% death rate - on the table. Heart attacks during procedure x 2, 3. Vs diet change!

  • I noticed... I used to try to start running, and could barely do a mile when I tried (about once a month), then would try again in another month. One month into this diet, 3.5 miles and not that tired. I plan on getting my lipids checked at the end of July. Total cholesterol was 199 on a fairly healthy diet so I'll repost here when I get them drawn!

  • Yes. I stared about 1 month ago. The recipes in the book are good and its not a bad diet overall. I've lost 10lbs thus far and just started an exercise regimen. My blood pressure has dropped 20 points on both sides.

  • I'm 29. Both my grand-fathers died of heart attacks. 2 uncles died of heart attacks. I have a 1st cousin who is 34 who had a massive heart-attack recently.... thus I got his book and am starting the diet in a few days. It great to see a so-called 'radical' healthcare claim made by an actual physician and backed up by irrefutable PROOF.

  • Have you started the diet yet? I have read his book and am starting tomorrow.

  • Way to go delafoo. Good Luck. It works -- 3 years and counting :-) -- Starches and exercise hit way more brain receptors than fats, after you get used to it, in about 3 months?

  • Suffering from a heart attack was not on my list of things to accomplish in life. Neither was taking a Rx med for life, like my older siblings have been doing for a number of years. I was close to discussing options with my doc when a friend told me about Sterolyn. I read about it and was impressed with what I saw. It's been 4 months and I have not had any of the neg side effects I've heard my brothers complain about, and my cholesterols going down, good news.

  • You need cholesterol to stay alive, but the composition of it is important, and also individual.

Try sealoil.. that is, oil from seals, or at least cod liver oil..

  • If you have the correct diet, you don't need fish oils.

  • See Dr. Esselstyn. Use flax seed. Absolutely NOT oil.

  • love your body....go vegan

  • @TSM9356 A Plant based diet saved my life!! I tell doctors and pharmaceutical companies to go to hell

  • My 3rd heart attack 12/04 walked out of cath lab and started his plan after getting and reading book. Now almost 66 in May and off all statins 8 months, still avoiding 4th attack so it works where statins don't.

  • awsome stuff. i dont want to live by pills and surgery.

  • Watch trailer to new movie on natural health foodmatters[dot]tv

  • A new film highlights ways of preventing heart disease naturally. Visit foodmatters[dot]tv

  • I have his book - great book.

  • Besides Essylstyn's book, he did not publish his studies FINAL outcomes in a scientific journal to my knowledge. Anyone know anything more on this?.

  • Esselstyn published the first paper PROVING a reversal of heart disease, after a 12 year study, 1999. Ornish published after 12 months. Dr. E has 16 patients still following the program after 20 years, with ZERO further cardiac events.

These were very seriously ill patients, several expected to die within a year. See Esselstyn on Google video, or E's book.

If a westerner and over 60 you HAVE heart disease. If you are also smart, take Dr. E's advice. Google heartattackproof for papers.

  • I have his book. Esselstyn did not publish again in a journal at the 20 year mark.

SupremeMasterTV now has an interview up also.

I introduced Esselstyns work to a Cardiology Professor this year. He dismissed the work due to "stingency of diet" and "study size". Dr E had success with 17 of 23 pts (74%).

    Need I say more!.

  • @ Halfasheep. NO, you certainly need not say more. If you are determined not to 'get it,' then fine. Don't.

100% cured at 12 years. And you would like a paper to 'prove' a 100% cure at 20 years? You REALLY don't have heart disease do you?

Come back when you have heart disease and want a proven cure.

  • I have already modified my diet due to Esselstyns work. I purchased his book and sourced his papers. I have downloaded and passed on his lectures. Esselstyns work is by far the most important in cardiology in my view. Need I say more?.

  • Delighted to hear it. Agree 100%. Re Cardiologists - try the young ones. The younger the better. More receptive, IMO. Less vested in $millions from cutting open chests vs E's plant diet. Or go it alone, perhaps with a open-minded GP. As patients our sample sizes of cardiologists are VERY small - 1,2. Just a suggestion.

That "Need I say more?" phrase leads to misunderstanding. At least mine.

  • Found out through the grape vine by chance this evening that the Profs wife (An MD) buys organic vegetables. Hmmm, not sure about the meat/dairy part of the equation though.

  • To CONQUER HEART ATTACKS or HEART OCCLUSIONS----all you gotta do is DRINK WATER or "more" WATER!! PEOPLE are DYING OUT because they are DRYING OUT! Not drinking enuff water! Its the answer to HEART ATTACKS, CHOLESTEROL buildup and Arterial Plak----not LIPITOR; or some VASOCONSTRICTOR....Just give your WATER CELLS the WATER it wants!

  • You must have WATER on the BRAIN.

  • everybody has:)

  • Great info..thanks!

  • Very good description of LDL cholesterol activity in blood. Excellent graphic of arterial walls, endothelial cells, plaque and foam cells.

  • It's an interesting topic... It gave me much more knowledge about heart attack even for a few mins... Great work Dr. Esselstyn
