  • I often wonder what Alec Douglas-Home and Harold Macmillan would have thought of their puppets...

  • "I have been cruelly deceived! Forced to share my twilight years with Tories! There can be no fate worse than that!"

    "Hello, Harold."

    "...I stand corrected."

  • who is the white hair bloke

  • @SirOneoneselfandone which one?

    Macmillan, Wilson, Douglas-Hume or Callaghan

  • @drab100 i meant michael foot

  • the laughter track doesn't work at all, I'm glad they got rid of it

  • i love that bit where Wilson goes Oh My God alex dougles home and the bit where Foot walks in

  • is the matron-esque woman meant to be queen victoria?

  • @meganisationlubracat Yes, that's her. :)

  • The Harold Wilson puppet is kind of creepy.

  • Also, I would love to know exactly what the opening song is. It sounds like a piece Sir Edward Elgar might have written, but I can't find it anywhere. Are there any fellow classical music buffs who could help me?

  • The Tooth & Claw book sez they stopped making these sketches because kids weren't finding them funny. Rob Grant and Doug Naylor (the Red Dwarf guys) were asked to make the show more "trendy" and straight away the Exchequers and "Herr Wilcox" sketches were dropped

Although Fluck and Law hated making puppets of Rantzen and Norden, they pretty much had to start doing it to make the show more "accessible" to a younger audience

I'm not fond of the first series either. in b4 I get lynched

  • That's very interesting! It's too bad they were asked to make the show "trendy;" sketches like these were the best part of the series. I mean, a retirement home for ex-PMs. The possibilities are endless, and hilarious. :D

  • @Sparrowmaiden

You're right. You could probably make a separate series just based on Exchequers. The material is practically limitless.

  • @Sparrowmaiden

If I remember correctly, Macmillan died in 1986. That certainly limited what they could do.
