I usually wear a v-neck under my dress shirts at work but if i do wear a crew neck it's always black and I make sure the collar lays flat. I wouldn't wear a white crew neck under a dress shirt. It just looks kind of cheap.
@mkahn91 Yeah, a deliberately contrasting undershirt like that is definitely different from a little white collar poking out where it's not supposed to be. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
@Myobokuuzan I'd change the undershirt every day, unless you're doing very light work indeed -- it's right up against the body, so it gets all the sweat and smell that it's protecting your top layers from.
I have some very nice Crew T-shirts that are meant to be worn with the dress shirt and tie. Now that you pointed out having the option to unbutton I will try the V-neck. My problem has always been that they go TOO low in front because I am a larger size.
@MrTalktothebear It may just be a matter of finding a brand with the neck where you want it. And as long as you're keeping the necktie on crew-necks should work just fine!
The other night during a UFC event, Brock Lesnar was commentating and he had a nice blazer with a light blue dress shirt underneath with a bright white crew neck undershirt underneath that. I thought it looked terrible.
@RealMenRealStyle Well, in this video you talk about undershirt showing/exposed at the top when the top button is undone. I am very interested in your opinion on undershirt lines showing through the shirt fabric in a business casual setting (wheter is sleevless/tank-top or short sleeved tee/undershirt). I mostly read that it's a no-no as well as that a see-through fabric is a hallmark of bad quality. What do you think?
Polo shirts? The way they fit they look best with only one button buttoned, that being said they, on me at least, don't look right without some type of layer under. Any suggestions?
Interesting. Ive always wondered about this. What about when you are wearing a necktie should you wear a v neck or a full t-shirt. For me i would always be trying to fish the shirt up.
@jabadroid20 A dress shirt worn with a necktie will always have the collar button done, which should cover up every style of shirt. At this point it's largely a matter of personal comfort, though I'd recommend the V-neck so that taking the tie off is an option. Thanks for asking!
Great points. I personally am adamant about not showing the under shirt... But I'm also big on at least TWO buttons undone. I know you like the portray the more business look, but I feel it would suite you well. Food for thought, love the vids bud!
I've tried v-neck undershirts, but as a larger man I have to buy larger undershirts, and then the V portion just tends to be too big and uncomfortable. But the contrast does bother me, so I've added different colored under shirts to my wardrobe to match various dress shirts I wear. That way the contrast isn't as stark.
@racermaniak Appreciate the feedback - my wife wanted to try this again. We'll be doing quite a few more like this and then put out a vote to see what wins!
I am in the no camp as you are not going for a layered look here. I would do the v neck undershirt underneath unless kike Antonio said you had a legit reason.
Unless there is a specific exception, I also think an undershirt counts as underwear as is the equivalent of showing your boxers.
The one time I do show my undershirt is when I wear a v-neck/quarter-zip sweater with no collared shirt underneath. Sweaters look better layered in my opinion, and layerlessness looks worse than the undershirt does (especially if you know how to use non-white undershirts that coordinate with your sweater, but that's relatively advanced, and white is always safe)
Well - I think my opinion was pretty clear in the vid but I am going to be in the no camp unless you're using it hide a distraction. So that's my vote!

How many days can you wear an undershirt for?

is it ok to wear a check shirt or a lining shirt with suit .. . ??
fzkn4u 3 months ago
@fzkn4u Depends on the suit; depends on the shirt! But you certainly aren't always stuck with plain white shirts when you wear a suit.

@checkitoutdewd An undershirt that shows through the dress shirt fabric always looks bad on TV, doesn't it?
RealMenRealStyle 3 months ago
@RealMenRealStyle Yeah. Exposed undershirts + TV = Fail.

@bobdava3226 Your basic "A-neck" (scooped) T-shirt or sleeveless white undershirt should work all right for you, I think.

I agree, its like showing your underwear but not a seriously bad look, especially if you are covering up tattoos etc.

I'd suggest going back to your black background. It's easier on the eyes :) White is a bit to bright.
