XP Tip: Edit Startup Programs

I get a message saying something life i dont have proper access for these programs and i need to run as admin, but im already running as admin. When i close the window the programs are still unchecked and everything seems fine but when i start my computer back up again it says its in selective start up mode and that this message will display every time i boot up my computer

can you help?

@shooterboyz12: I accidentally disabled a necessary startup program. The next time I had to reboot the computer, it shut down but then wouldn't restart at all. I called Hewlett Packard and they couldn't help me except to have me reformat the hard drive. I would have lost everything if I didn't have my stuff on flash drives. Keep all of your important stuff on flash drives because you never know.

hey, i need your help asap! i did the program start up from this video. when the pc restarted my windows theme was removed, my audio was removed and not found, some errors were popping up. Now i re-enable the programs on start up and it didnt change anything and i still do not have my audio n xp theme back. can u plz help me because when i launched the system restore it didnt have a previous saved date.

Editing these will make it choose "Selective Startup" in the General tab automatically. How do I REALLY change startup items, so that they wouldn't launch even when I chose a Normal Startup?

HELP ME!! When im on the startup and I do all those things, after i check the items i want on my startup it says An access denied error was returning while attempting to change a sever. You may need to log on using an Administrator to make specific changes. I am the ONLY user of my computer so why does it say that please help

sounds like spyware......tiny little program hidden in your hard drive automatically closing programs that can possibly eliminate that tiny spyware or virus program.....i had a virus a long time ago messed up my computer so bad by downloading other viruses and then blocking task manager from opening up so i could never end task.......google spy sweeper or something like that......free program......

hers a better one!....after you type in msconfig, and the widow pops up. go down to selective start up, thien un check load up start up items, after clicking ok, restart like suggested, then when you login a screen will pop up warnig you , check the un checked box. now every time you login in it will be fast, and nothing is harmed. i f the programs begin to come back and load when you login juss do th same steps over agin...........this was a short tutorial=]
