Okay I really appreciate the banjo, I'm Irish too and this kind of music is in my heritage. However, as a skilled guitar player, I cannot see the technical difficulty in any of this, I appreciate that he wrote this, but it's no harder than any intermediate solo I know on guitar. Am I missing the point?
Hardly an original tune! Played by many! I hear this in any Irish Bar in Las Vegas,Nv USA since '94. Irish Rovers and Chieftains have played it for years!

the banjo is from the appalachian region of the USA which has deep roots in Irish and Scotting immigrants. They were the woodsmen who helped the continental army turn the tables on the English a win our independence!
hey i need some help, ive been playing guitar for a while and id like to pick up the banjo does anyone know if the epiphone mb200 is any good for celtic type music
@Mcl0vin11 Buy a banjo, cheap if you just wanna give it a go, a decent one if you actually are interested in learning. I would suggest buying a Clareen Tom Cussen banjo as they are highly regarded in Ireland seeing as they are all hand made. Listen to as much traditional Irish music as you can without losing interest to gain an understanding/appreciation, if possible get a teacher, even through the internet if necessary, and learn from there.
@Dunnooooo123 Thanks for the reply, it has been about 3 months but I'm still interested =). I'm gonna need the money, and see if my parents will allow me, seeing as last time I got an instrument I gave up =/. Anyway thanks for that I will look into it.
@clarebannerman how do you figure its all Irish folk obviously you dont listen to this type of music much or are even been to ireland to understand the music

The picking strokes seem quite similar to the mandolin. Can anyone verify this?

@xxEdwardTeachxx
The tuning of the tenor bango is the same as a mandolin and fiddle. The plaring style is the same.
