Now, THIS RIGHT CH'ERE, is the version I'm familiar with! OH the memories! I know Mattie Moss/Clark sisters did it originally, and theirs is AWESOME! But, I kinda heart this version. Sigh, God PLEASE bring the days when gospel singers literally SANG THE GOSPEL LIKE THIS!!
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
@evanglillianlloyd Yes!! REAL singing from the soul. You could fell this, and it pierces your very soul, and you saw results. Don't see this much anymore with all this modern day stuff. Some of it is ok, but overall, there's nothing to it.
I LOOVE this song!!! The harmony on this song is AMAAAAZING!!!! They can sang!!! This song is such a blessing!!! It's soo POWERFULL!!! I really like this version of Rev. James Cleveland&VOC and The Clark Sisters version!!! They're both an inspiration and POWERFUL!!!! LOOVE IT!!!! I also like how the music stopped and they were still singing also!!! Beautifulll!!!
My brother sent a text message that asked, If you could go back in time, disguised and meet YOURSELF at 15 years of age, what would you say? I think I'd beg myself TO PRAY! AIDS, a disease you've never heard of will soon arise! CRACK, a drug you've never heard of will be sold openly on street corners! People will shoot others over foolishness! Earthquakes, tidal waves will increase! The things JESUS warned of will begin to come to pass quickly! PRAY! In 1976, it might've seemed impossible,PRAY
All I can say is, "Lord when I pray give me what to say. Lord help me to say YES. Yes, Yes Lord!" Tonette McKenny, Charlotte "Penny" Jones & Cheryl McWhorter. Now that I am 51 years old this song right now has me in tears because this is the album that pushed so many of us forward!
Im sitting here balling my eyes out. I was 4 yrs old when this came out. Id stand in that mirror and pretend to be on Stage with the Rev Cleveland and the other singers . I didnt understand what prayer was really all about then but the song always made me cry
My tears now are from understanding the importance of being able to Get a prayer through. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!!! I LOVE U TODAY.
I see you have a lot of the old greats that we use to sing years ago. There is one particular song that I'm looking for. James Cleveland sponsored a choir and I really can't remember who it was, but the name of the song is "Psalm 7". If you find it on one of those old albums please post and let me know. Took us three months to perfect that song. It's one of those songs you wouldn't really pay much attention to, but it was meaningful once we sang it.
vintage classic music! I miss the James Cleveland Touch to gospel music! now that is church music! u can tell it is to be in the church! and to sing a song after the Clark sisters and make it your own is phenomenal Twinkie wrote an anointed song so if an anointed singer does it ,that is the effect it will have, it will be a blessing to all! praise God for these forerunners of gospel music blessing us with anointed music forever thanks to the internet!
Songs like this made people walk in off the street and get saved right there at the alter... I love it this generation don't know anything about this can we go back to these days when gospel was gospel
@TheElder79 "Written by Elbertina "Twinkie" Clark and originally recorded by the Clark Sisters in 1978. It was covered in 1980 by Rev. James Cleveland and the Voices of Cornerstone on their "A Praying Spirit" double LP release for Savoy Records."
This version is BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for posting. Also, STAY TUNED for my Internet Radio Broadcast of GOSPEL MUSIC (From The Old School) starting with the Out-Of-Print Hits from 1975 - 1989. If you're interested in participating, hit me up and I'll give you the webaddress.
Also From The Album The Song, We will never pass this way again features James Cleveland's daughter LaShone Cleveland who later did backgrounds for L.A. Gospel Messengers, and the Kurt Carr Singers
I think you may be thinking of the song Christ the Redeemer (with the lyric "...He rose one Sunday morning..."). It's on the album James Cleveland with the World's Greatest Choirs. If you go to bn(dot)com, you can listen to a sample to see if that's what you're looking for.
I wonder if there is any way possible I can get this recording. This song just truly blesses my very sanctified soul and I am disappointed that I can't find it anywhere. If anyone out there has any suggestions, please advise...God Bless!!!
try the clark sisters. They were the first to record it...I either them or Mattie Moss...I also believe that Karen has this song on one of her albums.
Thank you. I already tried the Clark Sisters' version, and don't like it AT ALL. The one by Rev Cleveland is much more inspiring and anointed in my opinion. Thankfully, I was able to locate the album by Rev. Cleveland. But thanks for the reply, nonetheless.
YOu can hear Penny on the Pentecostal Community Choir's song "Let Us Not Be Weary". She is adlibing all through the song. The first "Oh, yeah" is Penny. Check out Johnzoe777
Thank you!!! Thank you!!! I finally purchased this song on cassette tape a few years ago. But it is so nice to see that someone remembers and honors those great songs from yesteryear!
i am on here tripping, this brings back sooooo many good memories of being in service as little man. just seeing the old saints slain in the "SPIRIT" lord knows i want a praying spirit. you guys realize how long ago this was and it still ministers...
The singers are from Reverend Cleveland's youth choir under the direction of Stan Lee. They were Cheryl McWhorter, Penny Jones, Tonette McKinney who were awesome singers as 13 year olds.
Oh my Lord, these girls are 13??? Wow, they are singing their little tails off. I've always wanted to hear Penny Jones sing, I've read great things about her. Which one is she?
I cannot see from this blurry picture. Penny Jones went on to sing with Stan Lee, Pentacostal Community Choir, Los Angeles Gospel Messengers before gigging with Rod Stewart and other great rockers as background singer and studio singer.
Oh no, I meant first, second, or third young lady singing. :) This has quickly become my newest favorite YouTube video... a fine example of a cover matching, if not surpassing the greatness of the original. And yes, I saw online that Penny did backgrounds for Rod, I believe on the song Never Give up on a Dream. Sheall, you really should write a book about the Messengers!
I would look out for the LP on eBay. Maybe Malaco will reissue it on CD. They just re-released "It's A New Day" by James Cleveland and the Southern California Community Choir earlier this year, and that album is just 1 year older than this one.
Beautiful and powerful indeed.
