i have a question i have a dovii its almost 3" i cant tell if its male or female on its gills its gold little circles and on the tips of its fins are turning blue i wld take a video but my dovii is so dam hyper i cant get a good video so please if you can help im thankful for any or all ur advice
@mudfrog How the hell do you get bored of the king of cichlids? I think a 120 would have been fine for a long time unless it grew to be 24 inches in like a year which aint guna happen
@SkOpEd13 I dunno.. I just got tired of one fish in a 120. I knew he'd need a larger tank eventually so I sold him and the tank to someone local. Sadly he died a few months later.
@SkOpEd13 Nah, much sooner than that. He was over 10" when I sold him. A 10"+ open water predator needs a longer tank than 48". Within a year he would have been over 14".
lol that is one funny little fish that try to get at the dovii when it has it back turn. It look like a convict cichlid or maybe a jew cichlid. It was so fast to catch it
The current in the tank is very strong. I'm using a 2400gph pump. They are open water predators. From what I have seen their habitat is typically sand and rocks. I have changed the tank around since this video. He swam into the stump injuring himself so I removed everything except for a couple rocks.
Yeh the one i had before used to love the rock caves...i have sand n soft gravel in my tank, the cichlids seem to like it..as my fish grow i will remove some wood too..to give them more swimming space..my dovii is very young so they are all cool for the time being...in a year or so i would like to get a much bigger tank.
Cool i just assumed that by the set up of yr aquarium that you were mimicking the dovii's natural habitat..ive read somewhere that the fish comes from slow moving backwaters..i had one a few years back and although i had a strong flow in the tank, the dovii preferred to dwell in the more still end of the of the aquarium.
Nice clean tank! i see you havnt bothered with a airflow other than the bubbles you are gettin from the external filter...do you have a reason for this?

lol......nice dovii...
what do you think of me getting a dovii to put in a 170 gallon tank
with a jag?
plz reply
GearsOscar 1 year ago
@GearsOscar Yea the convict had fry but was killed shortly after. I think if you add a Dovii your Jag would probably eventually get beat to death

I have a wet / dry filter running with this tank. It uses a drip tray and provides more then enough oxygen to the tank.
