This was the first album that turned me on to Elton. In my opinion, Honkey Chateau, this album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Caribou are Elton at his zenith. The critics like Tumbleweed Connection, but they are ignorant of the true classics from Elton. Songs like this NEVER received airplay.
i love this album. i have the orginal record from 1972 i picked up from a thrift store for a dollar. the thing plays awesome oh how i love this record and album. elton is one of the best artists ever
@billyboy7465 NOPE. But gays do not bother me. That is because I am an Atheist. I have no book of hatred and bigotry (bible) to teach me to hate gays. It is time for humanity to grow up.
@Karoke77 Good one.You have no book to hate gays but you have your own atheist philosophy to feel superior in intellect to humanity which you feel needs to grow up because they don't fulfill your standards. So you hate them to feel you have the upper hand.Interesting double-edged sword of hypocrisy.
@billyboy7465 Yeah, I knew you are a Christian. Yes, we seem arrogant. Do you feel superior to an orangutan? That is how an Atheist feels around Christians. Just more proof of evolution =)
@Karoke77 If by orangutan you are referring to yourself yes I do feel superior.
Atheism has nothing to do with intelligence. There is everything in that bunch..including people who don't have a clue which is where you stand.
So keep thinking you don't believe so you find yourself chanting Oh God when you are moaning with pleasure or get on your knees when life brings you a major emergency.
THIS is the song that always reminds me why I love bands like Scissor Sisters so much. If you're gonna "borrow", you gotta do it from the best, and that's exactly what they've done!
1973 was quite a year for Elton John. His best album, "Goodbye Yello Brick Road" and this gem of an album. This is a great song; one of his best. It's pretty simple yet so effective and catchy. And Elderberry Wine itself isn't bad.
Wow! the flip of "Crocodile Rock". Remember buying the single then realizing you couldn't escape the a side from listening to the radio. It was worth the .89 cents just to have this spin on the turntable. Black label, white MCA lettering...before the rainbow. Yep, loads of fun.
1973 I was 13 and me and my pals went yo to the woods friday night mad a big bond fire. we were chuckulling douwn Bonnes farm strayberry wine " My god did iget drunck. There were svere consequeses for my behaviror. My first girlfreind and her freind woulf join join us at migs restaraunt i couldn; t believe the quit kids were mosltly ?
I remember going down to Tower Records and buying this alblum when it first came out. I was in 9th grade. Still have it. That was a long time ago. EJ rocked hard back then!
@opnwhlracer I bet he did! It's just a shame that many years from now I'm going to have to remember being in High School and listening to the mainstream radio broadcast such tasteless music.. I won't name any Artists, just turn the radio on you'll see what I mean.
All forms of DIY (do it yourself) had more to do with the '30s than the 60s, and home brewing in particular, which was influenced by not only the Great Depression but Prohibition.
Everyone without the pseudo-moral objection to alcohol that could not afford the real stuff made all they could out of whatever was good enough.
If anything, home brewing has become more popular since the 80s, and there are thousands upon thousands of microbrewery beers to prove it.
This song uses a lot of the same hooks as Philadelphia Freedom!
Listen to both back to back and see!

Both north and south reek of hypocrisy.
Where you are in not where you stand.
Grow some funk of your own.

@billyboy7465 There are 6,000 astrophysicists in the world. All are Atheists. Intelligence? YES.

@Karoke77 LOL.
How convenient to not count the other millions of atheists.
I see you're an intelligent one.
Good day and may you sing Elderberry Wine every day to your heart's content.
I still think it's childish.
But hey,we all have got a kid inside.
Get me drunk and I'd dance this all night as well.LOL

Takes me back to Spring Break March 1973 in my Grad year in High School when a person played this at a St Patrick's Day Night Party.
