Alright, so I have had a huge question with this entire "it's free" idea. Say I decide to go balls deep into this program, and make an all out game using the render software, level design, character design and etc. I make a huge game, but now I want to share it and make a profit, will I then have to pay $X,XXX.00, in order to publish the game, and if not would I be able to pitch it to a company without an impending law suite? I would like either a response from the Epic Games Youtube,or links.

@TehRandeh i think its like $99 and you share a percentage ( i think ) which is an amazing deal.

@kevin957 its pretty confusing but basically: they charge $99 initial license fee to actually sell the game, and they take 0% for the first $5,000. anything after that, they take 25%. for eg; you make $15,000 on your first release, you will have to pay Unreal $2,599 from that $15,000. hope you got that?

But I doubt theirs is as good as UDK as much as that hurts me to say that.

Oh and I read something on MODDB that CryEngine could be doing the same thing too.

Let's say you have CryEngine. You still can't create and sell games legally with it. You CAN with UDK, because it's not just an editor or something. You can give them a percentage of your income as a license. No loss.

Try reinstall. And sometimes you have to run it as admin. ANd check for a Desktop Link to the UDK, I'm not sure if the UDK.exe is the right starter.

You should also check all the pre-requirements. There are more than the list says, though they should be easily fullfilled.

The UDK is rly good, but they don't include Quick Save & Load system... don't knwo why... and UDK it's not this same what commercial developers get - u don't have souce code of the engine, but if you thinking about make some basic single/multi player UDK it's great solution

It's not capable of the stunning graphics and lighting in Cryengine2

unreal is far more flexible for game designers and is more compatible for different platforms. the interface is more robust in features, and has easier scripting.

as an indie dev/modder, I would take unreal over a prettier looking engine with limited flexibility.

no one has made a true TC or published AAA titles with cryengine2 because of its flexibility limitations.

The engine is amazing, but remember that the Cryengine2 from Crysis is much more advanced and comes free with every copy of Crysis.

Do you actually compare CryEngine2 with UDK? That's like saying a clock is better than a lamp, or something. UDK is for creating games to be sold. CryEngine2 is just some level designer for Crysis. UDK is worth money, CryEngine2 is not (If it is, then a very small amount).

Cryengine is also for making games to be sold. FPS games to be exact. Cryengine is capable of much better graphics /lighting then UDK.

You can not sell "games" made with CryEngine. Only CryTek can.

Also, Cryengine 2 is a much better looking engine then Unreal. However, there both 2 totally different engines, and both things make them unique.
