Whoever the performer is in this video, they should know that they are the main inspiration for my purchasing a wavedrum. Many people just treat them like a standard hand drum, but this guy really knows how to get the most out of it. I was intrigued when I started looking at these, but I was sold when I saw this video!
I've got one on order as we speak. The fact that it can be used with hands, brushes, mallets, sticks and actually here the difference was what sold me on it.
just bought one of these...not gonna open it till christmas morning...then im going to sniff loads of blow, load up the decks and bring the wave drum out for a cocaine hazed christmas....BOO YEAH

if i wanted to make a small drum kit using about 3 of these would it be possible? i know id have to program each individually, but what would it take for them to all be all amplified under one source.?
Great video! Is it possible to upload more sounds on the Wavedrum and tweak your own sounds? And is it possible to use it as a MIDI controller in a sequencer? I know you don't get the dynamics as the integrated instruments, but it would be perfect to some of my more expressive percussion samples if it worked tho. Thanks.
@GiovanniAv Speaking to the guy that reviewed this for our channel, as far as I'm aware this isn't possible with the current Wavedrum. Would be a worthwhile addition to the next version of the product though if you ask me!
why does everything have a delay effect? You can turn that off right? Also, is it possible to customize the sounds that come off from each triggered zone? I mean, could you mix and match sounds or are there only presets. Could you also pan the sounds? (i.e. snare through left, tom through right) so you could route them through different external effects?
@cococonk Yes, the delay is customizable, as are the four simultaneous sounds (one DSP algorithm, one PCM instrument each for the head and rim). You can certainly pan them, as well as adjust EQ, levels, and many other parameters.
Great sounds! I have to agree with Neocron, no Midi = no deal for me either. This would be so much more powerful had they let you actually record your touches via midi.
Great hands on skill from the player though! Common Korg you guys should no better to exclude midi!
I love it, I want it but I need a usb interface, if you spend the time to make these new patches and creations a computer based editor and way to save and load from there is a must!
ok this is cool and all, but $600, really? 600 is absolutely ridiculous, no midi either..i mean come on. i feel like this is just like one pad off of a roland v drums set just with more fancy features
@j0hnyd42 You seriously don't understand this instrument, u simply can not do anything close to this with a single v drum pad. And before you refer to the handsonic, again, totally different concept. Those of us who have been doing percussion long enough to remember the original wavedrum see this as an absolute bargain.
@waltmdavis Just bought one on eBay for $320 with shipping! =) Plan to pair it up as a dynamic snare along with my Handsonic HPD-15's awesome drum kit sounds.
@YouHaveMetYourMaker If you think for one minute a $600 budget electronic kit feels remotely realistic, you have either not played one or other or even both.
600 dollars is a bargain for an instrument this versatile. As far as lack of MIDI goes, this instrument goes so far beyond MIDI that it would be a waste to include it.
@JeffGraw A waste? So how do you sync the internal effects like delays and the patterns to a MIDI clock? Seems silly not to include something which is on any £100 home keyboard and which would help it to integrate better rather than having to manually alter delay times to run in sync with sequenced backing.
@JeffGraw It's a waste NOT to include midi out.@$600 in 2010. I don't see anything more special about it than the hand sonics from roland. & they are much more versatile.
First, the inability to use a PC based sound editor via MIDI/USB is inexcusable. Second, forcing users to edit with an LCD! Ridiculous! Third, editing capabilities are very needed because 95% of the patches I have heard (on the 15+ videos I watched) are gimmicky. Sitar blended in on a tabla patch? Give me a break. Other than the djembe patch, I didn't hear anything that sounded organic. The wavedrum is capable of such sounds, but better editing facilities are needed.
I have some wrinkles in the snare head at just one particular spot. Is this due to the had not being tight enough? I don't want to over tighten the head and cause any problems. Any thoughts?
The Wavedrum is an acoustic instrument, first of all. The sound is being picked up by microphones and the converted with 24bit converters. A resolution of almost 17 mil. How do you want to compress this to MIDIs 128 resolution? The result will always be disappointing. USB for editing would be something different.
@KORGTVGERMANY I agree this is beyond the capabilities of MIDI, since the triggers are audio based and not just piezoelectric triggers like regular electronic drums. I just ordered a Wavedrum which should arrive next week. USB would be required for editing and loading custom programs, as well as using custom PCM samples. That would REALLY make this instrument great. Also it really needs to have XLR outputs but hopefully the existing outputs are balanced.
(1)I'm pretty sure you can use it as a midi controller, at least the old one you could, and that's almost as good cuz it's like external sampling. I would be surprised if it didn't have that, but check the specs. but really when it comes to a real hand drum feel this thing beats all others no contest. if you got the money and that's what you're going for, look no further. this thing is like a van full o drums in a nice little package. if i took this thing back in time they would think i was GOD.
(2) I'm kinda ticked that they reintroduced the thing and didn't add sampling =/ for this price it should have some way to attach it to a computer for making custom drums and sampling stuff, or at least it's own amp attached and a battery so that it could ACTUALLY be portable. maybe they should sell an amp that clicks onto it somehow and makes it look like an actual drum and has a strap like an actual drum, I mean if they are going for simulation it just kinda makes sense.
(3) they could have a couple different models and color schemes or whatever to choose from or some way to customize it, I'm sure more people would buy that. I mean it just seems like, we're in the 21st century but none of the big guys are acting like it and they all intentionally cheap out for some whatever reason. I wanna go over to their design center and slap those guys lol.
(4) they would be fine introducing a 2.1 version of it (maybe with a little pricedrop) I don't think many people are going to buy this, but I don't know it's pretty good even for it's downfalls. if I had the money, I would probably buy a half-year supply of food, but ya kno. it's easily hypnotic though, and I could see myself getting one tomorrow and next month evicted out on the streets with nothing but a wavedrum (if it had it's own amp and battery..)
the original wavedrum has midi but it is useless for sequencing. the original also has editing via a RE1 as used for the M series workstations.
the new wavedrum has none of this. go to the KORG site and see the specs.
however, having said all of this and owning an original, I WANT TWO!!!!!! they have improved the control and variation on it no end. the future is back again! ONE BILLION DJS DEAD AND COUNTING!!!!!!
