  • aww my uncle died the other day :,( and this is one of his fav songs so wer going to play it at his funeral :) xx<3

  • Good stuff, good to see punks and rockers show the pop people how we roll, like Thin Lizzy and Ironmaiden and more that have been on TOTP.

  • don't remember them being 'punk' - more like rockabilly or psychobilly! Great post tho whatever their category - thanks for posting

  • Surely the most emphatic performance ever on TOTP. Top notch.

  • What a tune.....great memories !!

  • Met Ed at Butlins, Brilliant craic.

  • Lets Go Buffalo!!!

  • we are english and proud of it. fuck everyone else.

  • I love the camera as it freezes on this song. I miss TOTP for classic performances on stage like this. Such energy shown as well. The 70's & 80's music were valuable.

  • Can't belive we havn't used this as our England World Cup anthem. This would get everybody fired up, both fans and the team alike!

  • E finalmete l'ho trovata, grazie Fifa :D

  • We are 11

  • Ed's lip-syncing leaves a lot to be desired, wrote The Times.

Great stuff from a period when bands weren't afraid to put on a bit of a performance on TOTP and entertain the audience & viewers. Then they all went 'too cool for school' and TOTP became as dull as fuck.

  • Hoorah hoorah hoorah hey, over the hill and presenting the crystal maze!

    (not my joke!)

  • This song is the tits.

  • We had to meet the enemy a mile away, thunder in the air and the sky turned grey. Assembling the knights and there swords were sharp, THERE WAS HOPE IN OUR ENGLISH HEARTS... Thumbs up if you think this should be the England rugby teams national anthem, would get the boys revved up i think...

  • Damn. He looks like Diego Milito^^

  • Deep in the castle and back from the wars

Back with my lady and the fire burned tall

Hoorah went the men down below

All outside was the rain and the snow

Hear their shouts, hear their roar

They've probably all had a barrel or much, much more

  • and the England that was...

  • In one of those Danny Baker pop shows, the guests had to try and work out what some of the lyrics were, no one got it right. Great walloping thumping beat to this, just a pity there wasn't a tad more.

  • Brilliant song. Classic 80's tune.

  • Yeah...Cause he actually has some kind of originality.

  • yer man, john lydon is/was a bit of a tool like.....

  • mods were the best

  • Amazingly, Edward is a descendant of Henry VIII.

  • all english folk in landan,9 of us are enerys-mug

  • hud42cdo. What are you talking about?

  • Probably also a decendant of MacAlpin, hopefully there are no anti-Scots elements.

  • manko36. What strange comment. What on Earth makes you think he's a descendant of MacAlpin?

  • Although I can't say for sure without spending many hours researching, the Normans (which the Tudors were from) frequently married into pre-existing Anglo-Saxon and Scots royal lines. Although there may not be a direct patrilieal decent, most certainly, Henry VIII had Scots ancestry. I have found this in my own research.

  • In addition, I have traced my lines to MacAlpin as well as Niall of the Nine Hostages (the progenitor of the Scots Kings), This was done through gene testing and confirmed by (or vice versa) genealogical research. I do not expect you to believe me as I am an unknown on the internet. Best of luck to you!

  • By the way, grumpyildgitt, my intention was not to be divisive, but to show that the peoples of England, Scotland, Wales and yes Ireland all share Celtic blood.

  • great

  • love this clip reminds of years ago on hols ,,

but he is still great in chystal maze just fantasticx

  • Great replacement for Johnny Rotten. Who killed Bambi is a classic. Tenploe had just the right amount of manic devilment to the Band.

  • What a SONG...any party any time of day, put this on and feet start tapping then drunk people pogo and join in a fantastic chorus.

  • Sounded great years ago and still fab now. Met Eddie Tudorpole in the off licience before a gig buying water, nice guy.

  • it is quite obvious to me that the bass guitar person is keen on coffee. he needs to surf, surf until death........and then clean the windows oh and drink 2 f

  • saw tenpole support clash at brixton ace in 82 what a memorable nite that was.

  • If you love this song... count yourself united.. who cares where yer from..

Geeze what is wrong with people?

  • i love skyclad version.

  • Agreed

  • I want to do this for my music tech multi-track recording... It's not too long or too short, has acoustic drums, guitars, and I can already imagine someone else in my class standing in for Ed Tudor-Pole... And I like it too, it's a good song (energetic and rallying yet simple and a bit goofy as well!), especially compared to the crap in the charts these days.

Anything with Ed in is win (well, this and The Crystal Maze were at least)

  • Great, they're not as good as Joan Armatrading, but much better than Bruce Springsteen.

  • oh yeah, got that Adam and the Ants type sound, glam punk art, great stuff

  • cluedweasel: "The British were pushing Germany back in North Africa by 1942.

The Germans were never in a position to invade the mainland. "

Aha. I suppose it was impossible for them to invade France either, after all France had a huge standing army and a bloody great wall round most of it.

    Oh, and 1942 isn't 1939. Dimwit.

  • went to Aberdare motorcycle show on sunday, and they had a band. And they played this song it all the old rockers daance floorncing away on the d

  • Is this a coincidence or what. This is the first time that I have ever watched a pop video on you tube, and I live in Aberdare!sMALL WORLD ( BUT

  • Sorry, that should have ended Small world but I wouldnt want to paintit

  • Love this song!

  • pop in :)~

  • is'nt it amazing the different emotions a good song can evoke, dad born in guernsey raised in lancashire(due2ww2)and off to edinburgh in army where he met my mum and made me'n my sis's, i'm a scot and also a brit and proud of both'n 2 fingers to any inner sectarianism that only serves to weaken us to the bigger enemy outside our solid little island, take note any snifflers out there but here i feel in good company so no need for that really, top tune good post.

  • Well one thing I will say for the Nazi's is; They sure were efficent, I'll bet trains were never late when Hitler was in charge!

  • There was hope in our English hearts.

  • love this song. sorry for your friend and i pray hes in peace tonight. i have a feeling he is. we will always remember our lost loved ones. because when we remember them they can never really die. good luck.

  • The Ne Plus Ultra of Lager Lout anthems, not that there's anything wrong with that.

  • OMG!!! They look sooooo gooofy---oh i love them.

  • This was our college anthem, Mansfield College Oxford rocked in the 80s. Respect.

  • ain,t music just great

  • YET ANOTHER FANTASTIC SONG

  • I simply love this song. Just turned 40 BTW and grew up in England in the mid 70's through early 80's. Thanks for posting this!

  • I bought mine at cham cham records on walton street in 1982,and when i got home me and all the neighbours got our vaccum cleaners out and had a race down the street in respect of morph

  • I remember buying this record at Woolworths. The woman behind the counter was building a snowman when she served me. When i got home & played it my dad went fox hunting in the hall way.

  • I bought mine at butterbee records in walton street in 1982,and me and all the neighbors got our vaccum cleaners out and had a race down the street in respect of Morph.

  • I used to love this!! I was only 9!

  • Makes the hairs on the back of your neck.

  • well said.. i know ed quite well, he is such a lovely guy..and yes, V.sexy! lol

I can't resist a guy in chainmail armour! haha (check out the promo vid for this song!)

  • i would wish to meet him he is very sexy hehe

and why people argue over where the music started, just enjoy it for what it is?

  • Met ed he is a great bloke!

  • Yeah, and if it wasnt for Britain there wouldnt be an America or an English language in the first place you stupid Yank cunt.

  • I wonder how this song would sound if sang in German. If it wasn't for the USA and yes Russia (but not Britian) too, we would know I guess.

  • The USA appears to be very self-glorifying, and there are multiple generations in the UK, France and Europe who upset and angry at America's rewriting of history. Russia's men, France's entire population, and UK's air force, were the principal opponents of Germany

  • aided by American equipment (which for example was loaned and leased to the USSR, not merely given), for which the allies were grateful, but not tricked that the USA did not have its own interests at heart, like all countries in the ideologically-charged political atmosphere of the time.

  • USAs entry to the war was forced, not chosen, their motives were self-defence not world-wide good such as was the case with UK, and their effort was slow and half-hearted, public opinion only turned in favour of the war at a very late date.....you Yanks are so deluded!

  • "Half hearted", yeah, tell that to a vet. ha
