@dsruddell You're correct. That style trim didn't start until '62. I have a '66 with that trim. These 60-66 modesl are the best looking trucks Chevrolet has ever made.
@dsruddell It looks like a 1961 fleetside to me. Not sure, could have been an old custom. Chevys from this era were known for a number of selective varieties.
@Kolfritz I inherited a '61 with the same engine and transmission. Blew a rod out the pan bringing it home from Arizona. Ran great before it went. About to get the old girl running in the next week or two. Can't wait to drive her again!
i have a 1961 chevy apache 20, i will never sell it because 1. great trucks 2. very rare. im hoping to have it fully restored by the time im around 18-20.
cool truck dude. im inherating one just like that but its a stepside.but nothing against your Apache, but the one im getting is in better condition body wise but it hasnt run for a long time(atleast 10 years). these are cool trucks, when they're running.
I hope you drained the old gas... after gas sits for a while it turns to varnish and can screw up everything from the fuel lines to the carburetor. My friend found a 1954 Cadillac that hasn't run since 1974 in his uncle's barn after he died, and he put a new battery in and started it up without draining the old gas, and he subsequently had to get the fuel lines replaced and the carb completely rebuilt.

They probably slapped a 61 hood on her to make a 62-66 look like a 61

that is not the correct trim for that truck. 1960 and 61 had different trim. one single strip going back with a rear facing arrow head style point.
wierd.. still a cool truck. i have a 61

Cool! I'm buying a '60 Apache. It's a longbed stepside, 235 6cyl with a 3 on the column.

Sweet truck! I have a '61 and '65. The '61 is my favorite, and the one that doesn't run. It looks a lot like that one, just without the trim.

P.J.O'Rourke said it best,"Any time a piece of Detroit iron ups and quits, you are probably out of gas." American cars and trucks forever!
