if its freezing try restore ps3 if that does not work restore file system if still nada then replace your hdd if that dont work bring out big guns and replace the laser eye easy to do with the right tools but if you still have warranty use it.

go to display settings.->video output settings->hdmi->
but then click custom to change the settings yourself.
then uncheck all of the boxes and just leave the lowest resolution checked. then confirm your settings and put your dvd in. the picture quality wont be as good but once youve changed the settings and put the dvd back in and played it, you can change it back to whichever you had it on before and the dvds will still work.

I not on am silly so much what to not try to connect ps3 through hdmi.
I tried following schemes:
1. HDMI (default)
2. HDMI> DVI
3. A/V composite
4. A/V component.
To default such scheme: Sony PS3 HDMI> HDMI Sony KDL 40X2000. All worked before installation FW 2.00. Does not work till now. :(
