Kind of fuzzily..I went to the Winder land on a daily basis. We us to crus down Geary and Fillmore just to see who was there. But if you say u where there why no mention of( The Riders of Purple Sage)
This could be the only time I've seen Phil in a hat, and a redneck one no less. It's too bad BGP doesn't release all the video they shot at all of their venues—e.g. as we can see from The Who's '73 show at the Cow Palace that early video taping was going on, so where's the Dead's '74 and New Year's '76 shows?
Never saw Hendrix live. Have seen Clapton. Saw Jerry more times than I can remember. He was a lot like Jimi as far as being reckless, but he was grounded in Appalachian music; Jimi was grounded in Voodoo. Jerry's playing was tasteful and soulful, thick with personality. I must say, I am enjoying John Kadlecik these days, but no need to compare these great players. They are all messengers from the Great Turtle in the Sky, and the message is always the same--More Light, More Grace, More Life.
wow~~ these 70's GD live vids are FRIGGGGGIN WOOONDERFUL!! thank u so much for posting these--- pleeeeeeeeeeeeease more! (deadheads can NEVER have enuf) Thank U!!! aiko aiko
WOW. Thank you! Jerry was ON in this one. And when Jerry was on, sorry, but there was on one to touch him. Not Eric, not Jimi, sorry. He was the best that rock has produced.
@jeanhartely Dude, I love Jerry's playing as much as the next head, but comparing him to Jimi is like comparing an apple to like some sort of space fruit that you can only find on some planet that hasn't been discovered yet.
@dundun316 There is no comparison that is true because each one had such a completely different style, and who knows if jimi could do the 40 minute dark stars.Or for that matter how about this scarlet>fire i am not so sure that he could.
Just got past Casey Jones and Truckin and into some of the jams of the dead. This video is sick!! Thanks for posting it. There is a bunch of live GD videos, but anyone have anything that is MUST SEE?
@fonze232 anything from the early days (69-72 were great blues years) 77/78 are also great. watch the grateful dead movie or the 4-27-77 vids, great shows
THANK YOU!! THANK YOU! I was 13 when I saw my first show at Winterland (in 73/74? ..damn I'm old ) and was up against the stage for at least 6 shows a year until 79...it felt like home... my arms up on that dirty little stage with the crowd surging against my back, it felt like frickin home...thanks for bringing me back home for 17 mins Peace

Go (straight) to heaven. Do not pass go.
Nice hat Phil! The kids nowadays wear their hats like that: top of the head with a straight brim. You were truly a pioneer...

Garcia wasn't the worlds best guitarist, not by a long shot, by he was the most eloquent.
