  • Hate to nitpick, but it's called Tír na nÓg. Land of Youth in Gaeilge.

  • @jjscallywag1 it's actually The Land of the Young.

the word na is the plural of the definite article.

i'm not trying to show off, quite the opposite. . . . i'm just fierce pedantic

  • Tir na nOg*

    Nice video (:

  • Lovely and surreal...

  • at 1:40 anyone remembering Mugen's (Samurai Champloo) visions near death ?

  • i give you my deep thanks.

  • Just for those who may not know, the Crows are one of the three representations of death in Celtic mythology, the Morrighan, and Tir Nan Og is a type of Paradise. :D

  • @Kinbir20 Oh, thank for explaining, now this animation become clearer for me :)

  • beautiful...if dying was like this...no one would fear death.makes me wish we knew much more about life!!!

  • i love it!

  • Beautiful making, beautiful message!

  • im kinda confused. whats this about?

  • @johnadog Her grandma died and the girl didn´t want to let her go, because she was afraid of death. bUt then, death took off his cap and she saw her grandpa( who is dead too) At this point, she was able to let go of her grandma and she turned into a bird and flew away.

  • @johnadog ¡your mama!!

  • the name of the song is: The Slow Wait by The American Dollar, from a Memory Stream album (2008) bit that one in the video is a bit different, you can notice it while listening from 0:50. It's deeper and touches me more. Can anyone share a link to that version? I'm dying to have it...

  • fuck, that was beautiful

  • muy bonito :)

  • i like the sound and music

  • EXCELENTE!!! BELLO!!

  • See? Crows are cooler and sweeter than you think!

  • right now im analysing this as part of my essay and ive never in my school life enjoyed analysing a short film with such enthusiasm..thanks! haha

  • My Aunt died on 8 October, 2011 at 06:43AM EST She was the most gentle, patient and kind person I have ever met. I am 44, she was 60.

I didn't come here because I searched for this video. I was drinking some beer and decided to drown my sorrows by watching my tiny list of sad videos and when I clicked on YT this was one of the videos on my top page.

I saw the name of this video and it intrigued me along with the art on the thumbnail.

    You know the rest.

    R.I.P. Aunt Helen...I'll miss you...

  • this is awesome but its kindof confusing..

okay so is this the story? :thats a girl and her grandma but that bird thing is death i guess? and why was the girl hugging the bird guy?

  • @chocolatechipbffs123 She recognizes someone on the crow, maybe her grandpa, and then she accepts it's her time. The birds are crows, known scince antiquity to be "death bearers" or messengers form The Gods.

  • Amazing short, I hope I will create something this good when I'm done with the animation program at my school.

  • I just lost someone very dear to me and seeing this made me cry; but feel better at the same time.

  • TAKEN BY SLUAGH!!! HORRID!!!

  • brilliant!

  • This was beau ti ful ... didn't expect that in any way as I watched it via special edition dvd of his les discrets album just now. I actually had tears in my eyes.. that doesn't happen fast.

  • now that was absolutely beautiful.

  • Standing ovation with tears!

  • wow. 4:04 that changed my life :'(

  • wow...Aside from this being an absolute masterpiece, I've never, ever was surprised with superior sound quality with any animations...great job!

  • omg, i cried

  • At first I thought this was going to be an Alcest music video... But this short animation works for me! Fantastic work!

  • This is absolutely stunning!!

  • 3:04 If you play League of Legends, Fiddlesticks Ult.

  • @LahainaGeneration I laughed. :)

  • @LahainaGeneration im sorry, im not a nerd, what was that again?

  • @Saexism I said this comment 2 Months ago, also, just because I play a game that doesn't make me a nerd, but if you know people that play the game I play that are nerds then just to let you know, I'm not a nerd. Thanks and bye.

  • I cried...

  • I......dont get it :/

  • @Rage123104 A wee lass is with her grandmother when she is taken from her (dies). The lassie goes after them, only to find that the stranger that took her grandmother was someone very dear to both of them. She lets them go, knowing they're happy now.

  • hmmmm...

  • im.... im... going to AAAAAAAA!!!!!!

  • I <3 The American Dollar!!!!!!!

    awesome film BTW

  • 1) What does Tir Nan Og mean?

    2) I HATE crows.

  • @Mekratrig the land of the young

  • @Mekratrig

    They're ravens.

  • It's Oogway with crows instead of peach blossoms. I didn't know he was married.

  • I almost cried, so wonderful!

  • ahhh... made me cry.. ,_,

  • there is nothing permanent in this wold, from day we where born we must learn a couple of things in life..we must learn how to love,be happy, sadness, fear, courage & acceptance....

  • Beautiful

  • ANY1 KNOW HOW THIS WOS DONE I MEAN DRAWING FLASH ND PHOTOSHOP OR PAINTINGS FLICK BOOK

  • i love this style this is amazing

  • If only we could pass away like this :-)

  • kind of selfish the died or vanished and left the kid alone

  • @MyCarlos1997 i think she deserves it.

  • Nice :-)

  • Beautiful

  • With this animation I mind a little less being deaf.

With this music I mind a little less being blind.

With music or the video I mind a little less not talking.

With this video I fear less die.

  • @MulthybridGodKyrNair i can't speak more beautiful than you but yeah i kinda feel the same way

  • @Shelestial ;) Ty sr.

  • What...?

  • I like this animation but....I kept thinking that the girl was an idiot and pretty selfish for not seeing it till the end. I mean, come on!! The first thing the old lady did was HUG the so called 'stranger' and she didn't even remotely try to think or question that action....

Oh well, the animation was beautiful though. I just love the Crow concept. :)

  • @iluvbleach2009 Imagine being a child who has never know death, never lost a family member in their life. You are spending time with your grandmother, who you love very much, when all of a sudden she gets taken from you without warning. Wouldn't you be selfish and sad? This could have been the first time she lost someone, and the fact that it was someone so special is even more painful. It's natural for anyone to feel that way. We don't get to see what they see when their time comes.

  • @jbrown87 she also lost her grandfather, he's the one with the crow mask. when he took off the mask she recognized him

  • @maurohardstyle Yeah I noticed that, but if you think, he may have died before the child was born. Add the fact that she probably had no idea what was going on or what the 'masked stranger' wanted.

  • The guy in the "crow mask" appears to be a plague doctor, which would put this story in the 1600's...

  • cool :)

  • altho it where 4 minutes and 4 seconds to be excact.. It seemed like, just 50 seconds..

  • Wonderful.

  • This is a sweet animation, and I like the style. The characters have good charm.

  • oh they get reincarnated or something like that into crows when it's 'their time' and the father/grandfather went back to get his wife because it was her time.

The younger girl didn't unerstand till the end :P

  • amazing..thank you...I needed to see this..=) life and death can be beautiful...

  • I think Dr. Kevorkian would have loved this very much.

  • I cried.... :<

  • @Kiru0Ingerash Me too..

  • beautiful

  • i guess death is nothing to be afraid of after all.

  • @TheLastHylianTitan <<Of course not=)

  • Grandma died? Grandpa came to take her away?? I m not sure .

  • The american dollar - The slow wait

  • Keep up the great work. :)

  • Please help! What's the title of the song??? I was searching it on The american dollar's site but I can't find it...

  • Please help! What's the title of the song??? I was searching it on The american dollar's site but I can't find it...

  • What is the program u use

  • truly beautiful...I like the concept of the black death being actually a love one taking you to the other world...but I wonder who was under the mask....her grandfather...or her father...

    Still truly beautiful,,

  • @Light14Lilium I suppose that is something to speculate. It would make sense to see that masked man as a grandfather, it was my initial interpretation. Of course, if it were her father ... that is equally valid. In the context of the Black Death, I don't think it matters too much - it was a devastating thing to experience.

  • Intriguing animation, with a peculiar choice for the concept of the masked man, I appreciate the use of the mask and find it heavily symbolic. It brings to mind an eerie image of the beak doctor outfit depicted in literature concerning the Black Death. All round, this is a good example of a short plot worth studying for novice animators.

  • Death, under its mysterious mask, is really our friend.

  • Brilliant. True art :)

  • Juste parfait.

  • i dont get it.....

  • As many before me have said, beautiful. Thank you

  • @tompuceful: it's a silly, stupid joke! it didn't make me giggle until i saw how pissy it made you. really? THAT is what makes you mad at americans?! lollollol XD

  • I love how it changes emotions so quickly from ominous to cheerful

  • i don't understand @@

  • how could anyone not like this? this is beautiful..

  • the moust poetic interpretation of death, i've seen. Beautiful!

  • @xcorsary You're right. It's beautiful. May I ask you if you ever saw an other animation named "Father and Daughter" of the Duch artist Michael Dudok de Wit? Maeby you have, but if not, I recommend it very much.

  • wish death was so easy,,

  • thouch a wonderful animation. I startet to cry, as i realized whats the meaning of the animation. Uts so gread and wonderful. I love things with a deep meaning. Things, whitch you had to think about it. verry gread woark=)

  • I love this animation, but since my Grampa passed away last year, I haven't been able to watch it without having a minor breakdown. It reminds me of my Gramma, who's been so lost without him. Aw, jeez, I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it. I gotta go.

  • A truly inspirational piece. The animation was smooth, and the symbolism is enchanting.

  • Crow man represents death, the little girl doesn't want her grandmother to die so she kills her self and then huigsoishdflkhsd IDK! SUCK IT!

  • Me encanta! Es hermoso! :)

  • I was expecting the Alcest song, but still very nice!

  • Beautiful work! Wow I love the art so much!

  • i had to read the comments to get this...how dumb am i, once i read it i was like OOOHH YEA!

  • was kind of confusing but it realy got my heart there :)

  • @lunerfall I think I understand the concept behind this. It was lesdiscrets perspective of death. It was very touching though I will have to agree.

  • Very touching, I love how they put the American Dollar in it. This video reminds me to always love, no matter what.

  • this was beautiful i mean cinematics and everything......what if the animator decided to make this a motion picture

  • GOOD THING

  • Does anyone know the name of a short film that was about a man fishing at the end of a dock and then a creature started to come from under the dock and put a fish down the man's throat or something like that? I saw it on YouTube a few years back, and I can't remember the name. Please, can someone help?

  • @tyrant95 i think u mean "The Pier" ? :)

  • @tyrant95 it's called the pier

  • @DorthNakotan You're such a barbarous American. You don't like it? Okay. But keep you're mouth shut. I'm not interested in you're Chuck Norris remarks. This stupid oneliners of you're culture.

  • @DorthNakotan What WAS behind that mask was an intellectual mind capable of constructing something greater than the overused, unintelligent, uncreative internet meme you demonstrated. It’s disgraceful to see such comments on the internet, especially when someone has put in effort to share a personal creation, as this animator did. Shame you could share little insight.

  • amazingly flawless ,great work, peace with you

  • woot! i understood it the first time i watched it!

  • I am just trying to wrap my mind around WTF they were doing playing a grand piano outside? Did her mortgage come due or something? Don't they own a house?

  • Good work! Very pretty!

  • it also looks like you are 12

  • Is this Cel animation? I've just got into animation, but sometimes people animate to make it look hand drawn. Please respond ^^

This film is amazing, truly unique and ingenious.

  • This film has literally changed my life. I can't watch it without getting teary eyed, honestly. The message behind it is just so powerful and beautiful and in the end, I'm left feeling so complete; so full of emotions and it's so amazing that someone was able to come up with something so intense, but so heartwarming. I'd love to meet the team responsible for this and thank them personally... This video will always hold a special place in my heart!

  • beatiful and brilliant

  • More importantly who are the 102 fools that disliked this!? THIS IS GENIUS!

  • reminds me of lovly bones sad story

its rly sad it mad me cry

  • Guess the little girl didn't try hard enough. Isn't that what they say, "Death is what happens when you give up."

  • @LikidySplitz but maybe the other people are still higher than you

  • wow uploaded in 2007 and I havnt seen this intill now 2011, such a beautiful animation very well done

  • what does Tir Nan Og actually mean in irish gaelic? it is the name of the white horse in the beautiful film about irish travellers called into the west... i guess it means something like - returning to the other life/afterlife etc? very moving and beautiful animation, thanks for posting cheers!

  • @rugbyboy198127 "Tír na nÓg" literally translates as.".land of the young"..because it was said to be a land of eternal youth, hope that helps!

  • @cirfia most helpful-thanks!i'm guessing it's in a positive sense, cos it partly makes me think of all the old irish folk songs which speak of ireland being a land only of the young due to the past in ire etc ie-nobody made it to old age-if i remember the lyrics correctly from spancill hill,a man descibes going back home and being shocked to find that,'the old ones were all dead and gone, the young ones torn and grey'-or maybe he aged while away lol and remembered them young-gaelic so beautiful...

  • @rugbyboy198127 well yeah Id like to think of it as a positive way too. Im not familiar with that song, but many of the folk songs feature similar subject matter..so yeah, Tír na nÓg= positive methinks,

  • Well that was beautiful.

  • This is amazing. But answer one question for me please, what software was used to create this ???

  • Grandpa bird is gona geet yo al, biatches. he is like, gona take yah ona jorne,y to the contri of da dead dougs ,yao.

thats one way of saying it too. :D

  • thank you so much for the travel !!

  • this is great. a film directed by one of my favorite musicians featuring music by another one of my favorite bands.

is this film meant to go hand in hand with the les discrets album?

  • May I ask what program you used? :)

  • Beautiful animation. Nice use of background (light) and atmospheric (fog) effect. It feels totally surreal and fantasy-like.

  • Beautiful! It makes me cry everytime I watch it.

  • This video really portrays something I've been thinking a lot about lately. It's perfect.

  • ahhhhh why am i crying so hard now i want to see my grandparents. *sniff*

  • i cry everytime i watch this, the message is so strong and it's beautiful.

i had so much fear of losing my grandmother when i was young that this reminds me of how hard it really is for some people, as it was for me, but when the time comes you realize it's not an ending, but a new begining <3

    mez .

  • so cute *_*

  • This is Art in general the meaning is in the eye of the beholder.

  • great video from the artistic point of view i hoped and dream that some day my only friend would come and take me away life here is beautiful but in my opinion it lakes from reason and goal the only reason and friend to me here is god

  • I don't understand why the girl hugged the supposed "death" guy.

  • the death guy is the girl's grandfather who died and came for the granny

  • the death guy is the girl's grandfather who died and came for the grandmother

  • Tir Na nog is Gaelic for the Land of Eternal Youth

  • Made me well up. What a beautiful short with so much meaning packed into such short space of time. Thank you for sharing.

  • Comment removed

  • this is breathtaking. absolutely beautiful

  • This is great! I lost my grandmother when I was 10 yrs old. My grandfather died before i was born i think. I know that she is safe with him up in heaven.

  • @Voodoofox3 I can relate a lot to this video. When my grandmother died, I couldn't accept it. The fact that she died made me tremble and disillusional, I was in total denial she was dead and would not accept that fact. I was in fact scared to face the fact that she was dead and the woman that raised me would no longer be able to hold my hands and see me go through all the process of life; Dating a girl, prom night, college, graduation and marriage. I wanted her to see it all...RIP...

  • beautiful animation and story :D

  • awesome..

  • 97 "Don't likes"...?????

I guess that answers the question:

"How many mean-spirited cretins know where the 'Don't Like' button is located?"

  • Oh my gosh..this is just..amazing. It made me cry, and..my gosh. This just has so much meaning and I thank you so much for posting this.

  • breathless..it's the most beautiful animation about death. in a wonderful way it shows, that there is nothing to be afraid of... because what is lost physically, can't be lost in a spiritual meaning

  • @Alladinsanee you're so right..
