  • There are so many little things in this scene that make it wonderful. The snow was beautiful touch, also the way they both lose footing constantly. I especially like how in 1:44-1:47 the background changes to show that almost he got stabbed in the face.If you pause it you'll see that his ear was sliced in half instead. Of course this was a man who had been running all day and night, climbing on top of buildings, had multiple structures collapse on him, just to reach a fight. Talk about fatigue..

  • whz da name of the song?

  • This fight removed the notion that Japanese sword styles are better than Chinese sword styles and vise-versa. Nanashi won against Rarou since he was the better fighter in the split second of the fight.

  • @kuromaru15 The movie seemed to imply that Nanashi won because of his connection to Kotarou. He kept the Jade slab despite discovering that it was worthless, and in the end it protected him (Though I maintain he still died in the very end, but that's irrelevant) While Raroh (HNK spelling, it still counts) had no connections to anyone else, and died as a result. That was the greatest aspect of this film: The symbolism.

  • @Tsukasamacleod mmmm he survived?

  • @Mariose123 Then explain the "Ashita Joe" esque shot in the end, showing him collapse into the horse and the bright light illuminating him as his blood dripped onto the ground.

  • @kuromaru15 the jade slab thing saved him, but Nanashi probably would have easily beaten Raroh as he was greatly injured and still fought as an equal against him

  • I've seen tons of sword fight scenes both animated and live action, and this tops them all! Best ever! (in my experience. awesome music, awesome animation, and a classic story.)

  • I did not notice when their swords were switched... Brilliant fight sequence. The way the antagonist died was so realistic...

  • Two foreign men, from foreign lands, fighting each other with foreign weapons and styles for a foreign cause... and in the end.. none of that really matters..

just a simple test of strength.. to see who lives and who dies..

    ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!

  • Was anyone out of breath by the time the fight was over? I know I was!

  • everyone is just talking about the animation but they are forgetting something. It´s not just the animation that makes that movie great it´s mostly due to the fantastic soundtracks

  • Best anime ever.

  • If you notice, "Luo Lang" is able to keep switching the sword between his both hands.

  • tht is the most intense fight scene ive ever seen in an animated movie

watch it with volume full blast

    so fuken greezy

  • The semi final battle between [font color = 'Green']Good and [font color = 'blue']Evil is about to began soon in our world as well, since all the signs has already appeared and thats what i'm really excited and worried at same time because this time has been prophecized as the worst time seen in history of mankind ! ;_;

    lolz!

  • i watched this movie just last night. oh, no word can describe how i felt watching this .: it' s MASTERPIECE , AMAZING, EPIC...

    i just want more T-T

  • Like an old master finally atoned for his mistakes and seems revived as he draws his sword for the first time in who knows when, and i loved the way they make the characters more realistic and human, like when No-Names running after Kotaro at the end shows him getting tired due to him being rusty after the years, alot of depth to this movie and is why Studio Bones are my favourite Anime company for Fullmetal and Wolf's Rain as well (among alot of other greats).

  • I saw this movie at IMAX on Feb 5 of last year and i absolutely fell in love with it. And I don't even watch anime.

It was so beautifully animated and crisp, and the storyline grew on me. Im glad the japanese still pratice 2D animation then the lazy american way of 3D animation.

    Kudos to this film

  • @Torphobia 2D animation is always better in my opinion, allows real art to capture the true meaning of animation.

  • I never said i didn't like 2D animation. This is the first time i have ever watched a Japanese animated(anime) film. And I was totally impress.

I just feel now a days, people are more dominantly using 3D animation which to be honest disgustes me. To me it just feels a bit overused and completely isolates the traditional quality. Which scares me the most that traditional 2D will be absolute in the mere future(which i hope my never happen)

I can see why my nephew loves anime so.

  • I was agreeing with you....... (-_-)

  • @Torphobia. Yupp great movie! The Japanese make 3D films as well. And a lot of times mix 3d with their 2d animation. And making a 3D animated film is far from lazy. Why does it have to be one versus the other? They are two ways of telling a story, each with it's own challenges and merits. I would suggest trying to draw a fuzzy teddy bear doing a 10 second walk cycle and then try doing the same thing in 3D. I'm not a patriot but what I do know is American 3D animated films are far from lazy.

  • @Torphobia

3D is lazy? While I prefer 2D myself your comment annoyed the heck out of me because it sounds like you're discrediting all the 3D artists and their work. Both are long and tedious processes and have wonderful caffeine addicted artists behind them.

  • @Torphobia the animation actually looks like it was done in 3d with 2d shading. that's pretty much the basic format now adays. it lets you pan around the scene and get perfect angles in a short amount of time while maintaining that crips cartoon look. futurama and family guy both use this method.

  • 1.33 when Luo Lang shoots out of the mist reminds me of Kenpachi Zaraki from Bleach cause he looks crazy with blood lust

  • I watched the fight scenes in this movie like 10 times

  • I watched the whole movie. The character development's very quick, but this movie has just bumped Samurai Champloo off the top block in my book for samurai animes. F'real, this whole movie, especially THIS part... is so clean. Only a rack and a half views?! What the heck!? I hadn't even HEARD of this movie until I stumbled upon it on youtube...

  • I had completely the same thing after watching this :P

  • this is the best sword fight in the history of anime

  • Oh so true. I had never seen such attention to detail before in an animated fight scene. And it got down to about as realistic as anime would ever let a fight scene get. This has set the bar for quality anime in my book, no joke.

  • VAstly, vastly underrated movie.

  • is it just me or did the white guy who died at the end fight better? the other guy got lucky at the end

  • No actually, If you watch the movie, you'll see that they are actually both equally skilled in comparison. Lou-Lang (The White guy) is actually more agressive with his sword stance than the main character which is why it seemed why he is better...

  • Rarou was much more aggressive and put so much pressure on Nanashi. If it were a hand-to-hand, Rarou would be the victor, but in a sword fight, it only takes one stroke to win.

Nanashi's style probably consists of finding an opening and using a single strike to win, as shown by how he defeated the minions.

Rarou (as seen in the beginning) has a style of simply overwhelming the opponent using any strikes neccesary.

  • Damn that was only 3 mins. Most epic 3 mins ever.

  • Awsome fight!!! So far my favorite anime fight

  • in anime history... no other sword fight can be level with this!!

  • This movie is my all time favorite anime!

  • love this part of a movie so much ... great fight

  • Best fight of the movie~

    Loved it dude!
