Oh, I remember that sound so well. The County Mounties around here did not like it at all. Eventually all the guys had to take it off because of the noise level although it did come from GM like that. Hotrod

Engine is a stock L78 396-375 - 242/242, 114/108, .520"/.520" gross lift and lash at .024"In/.026"Ex.

However, the compression ratio is 9.6 to 1, instead of the stock 11 to one. I have no problem running on pump gas!

Chamered exhaust for Chevelles and Camaros was a factory option ONLY on 1969 models.

My dad special ordered his 1969 SS 396 Chevelle (350HP) with it. 1969 was the first and last year the factory put them on cars because a lot of people complained that it was too loud.

My dad told me how he got a ticket for loud exhaust the first week he had it. The cop said he "knew" it had glass packs on it, and he would not belive that it was factory exhaust, and gave my dad the ticket anyway.

Thanks for all of the kind words! The exhaust system is a reproduction Chambered Pipe Exhaust that was offered by Chevrolet in 1969. Gardner Exhaust faithfully reproduces this system, which is on my car now.

Chambered Exhaust was a Factory option on a few Mid 60's to late 60's High performance GM cars such as Camaro. Corvette .Chevelle & Nova. using either 302/290hp, 396/375hp or 427/425+hp motors. It was not a afterMarket item.

Hence the wording late 60's And Vin option # was either A51, C49, D1C, E5Z depending on the Model of car . But then you would have known all about that already SmartAss Punk!

Right now a Gold 71 Z28 Lt1 & My wife drives a Gold 81 Z28 with 18 original miles for summer fun.

Our winter vehicles are a 91 GMC 4x4 for me & My wife drives a 08 Cadillac Cts.

Our 25 y/o son Tristen drives a 03 Cobra & Our 22 y/o daughter Kari drives 02 Trans Am.

Not to mention what we owned in our early years together.

@GerryK61 kickass, all i have is a 89 blazer, 76 skyhawk, and a 91 camaro. the camaro isnt cool like the older styles but at least it is convertible so i don't have to worry about it when i drive haha. i bet that lt1 is fast as hell
