Between September 2000 and June 2001, interceptors were scrambled 67 times. In the year 2000 jets were scrambled 129 times!! This all within domestic airspace of course. It is not acceptable that the usaf did not react appropriately on 9/11 2001. It has also not been explained, investigated, or has anyone been reprimanded!!

Shear numbers is a deterent in any war.Just as in the bay of pigs our over powering airforce darkened the sky in the gulf so that the sun was not even visible and russia turned back. Power in the air is also what turned ww2 in our favor.Nice slide show thanks.
Not to be an advocate of war, but the average flight time (from pilot getting into cockpit) of an Iraqi fighter jet (they used the MiG) was two minutes during dessert storm. This means that their planes were still on the runway, and to add to that the second time the U.S. Air Force came around they burried their jets. Having an advanced Air Force is just as important now as it has been in the past.
The guerilla wars are even easier to fight now of days. First off, Russia lost cause they suck, second weapons are already on the field that reduce collateral damage to buildings and people around the blast. Leaving a clean kill only to those who deserve it. Weapons are in development to even be able to tell civilian from terrorist, and even better... friend from foe.
Any person who truly underestimates the power of the United States Air Force is truly retarded. With the situational awareness that they provide to our allies plus the fear factor with their smart bombs and anything else they drop. They are the most respected airforce the world has to offer. Not to be an advocate of war, but the average flight time (from pilot getting into cockpit) of an Iraqi fighter jet (they used the MiG) was two minutes during dessert storm. This means that their planes were still on the runway, and to add to that the second time the U.S. Air Force came around they burried their jets. Having an advanced Air Force is just as important now as it has been in the past.

Yes, we failed on our objective, but it was not a conflict in which we could've lost due to the act that it was between North and South Vietnam. The Soviets, who did fight minimally in the conflict, did not win because they were not the chief combatants. Russia did not lose WWI because it withdrew before the end of the conflict.

Air power is pretty much useless. there are no enemy planes, and no large enemy lines or camps to bomb. Remember this is guerilla war, and you are losing it. I think that an good AA can take out any US or Russian aircraft without any problem if it isn't outdated and is used by professionals.USAAF is strong but not to mention that they were only strong against rebells wich don't have a proper tank in Iraq and Afghanistan wich aren't supported by any superpower.
