I should have added---the 95's that I was on at CGC Miami Beach were the Cape Gull and Cape Shoalwater and when I first got out of boot---I was on the Cape Fox out of Key West.
After my days at Miami Beach---I did an extended TAD about the Pt. Barnes 82' that was assigned to Station Fort Pierce.
Semper Paratus my fellow Coasties--or I guess we are "Guardians" now.
I was at CGC Miami Beach before many of those kids were born!! I was one of the last members of the old WPB Patrol Boat Division that ran those old 95' WPBs--but they were great old boats---got to see the 110's come online.
I wished I were 25 years younger somehow--I would come back in the CG in a heartbeat since ya'all get to do so much cool stuff now!
just enlist as it. you can enlist as a seaman, fireman, or airman. i wouldnt want to be a fireman though. i hated all the engineer stuff. being around the DC's and all. their kind of mean. and their watch sucks underway on a cutter. youd have to make rounds thoughout the ship, and sit in the hot ass engine room. it gets hot while the ships moving, especially out in the carribean. as a seaman, youd be driving the ship, and doing the lookout. that more fun if you ask me. especially 20ft seas. lol.
joescivic: I can relate too those thoughts of yours not wanting too be a "Snipe" I joined the CG at 26 and was the oldest deck ape on the cutter. Not a fun experience. As a seaman the deck work sucked. The BM's, MK's & DC's all encouraged me too become one of them. Instead I opted for cleaner and safer work. I became a SK.
yeah, deck work is kind of crappy at times, but its easy. just painting the hull of this 270ft ship, repainting the flight deck, going through all the mooring lines and having to put it back up afterward. as a seamen, or even some BM3's and BM2's will work now and then just painting with us. ther isnt a whole lot to do if you're stationed on a ship. being an SK wont save you from being on another cutter though. =) AMT or AET is where its at IMO.
joescivic: Ha! During my 18 yr. stint in the CG I was only stationed on 1 cutter. After which I manipulated my way around duty stations. Chosing specific ones that would keep me high and dry.
@20031200 haha. guess you play it smart then. my dads 30 years are up in june. him being a command mastercheif kinda helps me out. guess thats where i can get lucky.
2 non-rates on a single 25' crew...woowwwyy must be nice at that station...
