I agree with all who like the first two seasons more. I find some traits in the new animation style and the new Autobot / Decepticon generation and how they act and react to one another appealing. But overall .. I never liked that they're now more in space than on earth. I never liked that all Decepticons are now hailing Galvatron. I never liked the way the old characters are implemented in the series, when they're shown at all. And much more. lol.
Of note, this episode aired on the Hub last night at midnight and at the end, they used the narration of Vic Caroli saying "But is this really the end of Optimus Prime? Find out in tomorrow's episode 'The Return of Optimus Prime' ". This is, to my knowledge, the only deviation from the DVD production from Hasbro that has been shown on the Transformers. It also proves that, in story continuity, this is episode 93, not 73, which was the original production order of this episode.
Transformers.wikia on this: "The Rhino DVD has the altered version of the episode and not the original broadcast version, which creates a continuity error for viewers given that the episode is placed in chronological broadcast order, as opposed to positioning it before the two-part "Return of Optimus Prime" story. The Shout Factory DVD fixes this problem by simply using the original broadcast version, as part of their overall restoration of the series from the flawed Rhino versions."
But is the version shown on the Rhino DVD package closer to what was actually shown? After all, the version of this episode that had Victor Caroli's voice over of Optimus Prime's imminent return was the one always seen when it aired on the Sci-Fi Channel back in the mid-90s, so while it would be out of order in terms of the order in which the episode originally aired, the Rhino version is in correct chronological order for the series.
And one other thing about the Rhino DVD version of this series is that the primers were shown exactly as they were supposed to be seen, and that was at the end of the episodes, while the Shout Factory version deletes them and puts them in a Special Features disc. That means that the Rhino DVD version was actually what the producers intended the third season to look like, instead of the Shout Factory version, with the prmers where there were intended to be.
I just looked up the episode order of the Rhino DVD on Amazon. The episodes are in the same order as they originally aired.
I also looked up the Shout Factory version on Amazon but I didn't find an episode list. The Secret Files of TII are listed as Special Features.
Yesterday I watched Starscream's Ghost (74) where Octane explaines that he is abandoned from the Decepticons for trying to gain leadership with the help of Trypticon. Which happens in episode 75. All mixed up
The big difference in the Rhino DVD package and the Shout Factory DVD package where the third season of the Transformers is concerned is the fact that the episodes on the Rhino DVD package are shown as they were intended, with the primers included in their proper place in the episodes, while the primers were removed from the Shout Factory version. The episode order I list is based largely on the Sci-Fi Channel run, except for where this episode is concerned.
However, the episode list I use is bascially a chronological list, which is pretty much the way it was shown on the Sci-Fi Channel among the episode they aired (they didn't air three of them). But there were a number of different story arcs. Ep. 74-76 ("Fight or Flee", "Starscream's Ghost", and "Thief in the Night") form one story arc, while there's a definate difference in the music from Ep. 78 ("Madman's Paradise") and Ep. 79 ("Nightmare Planet"), as the music changed.
Other story arcs include a two-part arc detailing the Quintesson Journal (82-The Quintesson Journal and 83-The Big Broadcast of 2006) and a three-part arc featuring Unicron (86-Grimlock's New Brain, 87-Ghost in the Machine, and 88-Call of the Primitives). Another feature of the third season was Episode 84-"Only Human", which featured Cobra Commander. But that episode was also a sequel to the episode "Autobot Spike".
ironhide ratchet and prowl died on the shuttle, huffers is unknown theres even rumours hes not even in that tomb as hes seen later(its a miscoloured gears), as are a lot of the origionals, i should point out omega supreme did survive the movie but for all of season 3 he was sent on a special never known mission. wheeljack and windcharger survived the movies. we dont know who was one of the 2 to be killed by unicron. gears is suspected. brawn was badly damaged when he was on the shuttle when
@kawrght the decepticons invaded and killed him(he was killed with one shot of megatrons gun mode but there was clearly a lot of damage to his back) bluestreak is missing in action along with a lot of the other originals. (in actuallity a lot of the voice actors left the show so the autobots they where voicing couldnt be used in season 3, although jazz survived the movie, he would never speak again or be seen, because his voice actor(scatman crothers) died between movie and the series.
@LaMortesAbyss thye did it because the public where on letter bomb verge, no one thought prime should have died in the movie, he was everyones fav and the pressure to the company forced the hate plague episode. whoch im glad of.
@kawrght I've always been more a Megatron fan personally lol.
I understand why they to had do it. And the return of Optimus Prime was one of the better episodes. I've just always wanted to see Transformers evolve beyond Megatron and Optimus.
@LaMortesAbyss same, they tried with primus and unicron but it didnt work out. and tbh every time both optimus and megatron are destroyed, theres peace for all transformers. so if there was no prime or megatron, thered be no series. it did evolve though, transformers beast wars, a spin off of transformers.
@kawrght Surely a planet-wide war doesn't end because two opposing soldiers are dead. Are the rest so easily lead, that when Megatron and Prime's sparks are extinguised, both factions must splinter? Couldn't there be a Decepticon that takes the mantle of leader in the wake of his Master's fall? Unless of course the name Megatron is no longer the name of a single bot, but the title given to a Decepticon overlord...
@LaMortesAbyss well although there was decepticon attacks, it was pretty peaceful, its been done a few times over the course of the transformers series. who the heck could take megatron/galvatons lead? starscreams useless as a leader, and in some series it was megatron who started the decepticons. it would be hard. there might be someone more evil than megatron but its mega the writers are interested in.
@kawrght I agree. As much as I like Starscream, he is always destined to fail as Decepticon leader.
Hmm, concerning a replacement for ol' cannon-arm; I suppose the main thing about Megatron, is that he has an uncanny ability to survive in one way or another. In the face of suicidal odds, Megatron has no rival when it comes to his determination for self-preservation. Perhaps in the absence of Unicron, the Quintessons could reformat him further...
@LaMortesAbyss hmmm... yeah your right but as we all know a reformatted megatron is that less evil and more stupid and less fun galvatron. what about soundwave(the taped one?)megatrons one true second in command across all transformers series and if hes not in it megatron makes him. i think if he spoke more he would be a great decepticon leader.
@kawrght I suppose his silent demeanour would give many viewers a bit of a chill. But does Soundwave, as a spy who keeps tabs on Decepticons qualify as a respected leader? If we were to imagine the G1 continuity as the only franchise. Then Galvatron's successor would be Cyclonus. Both Autobots and Decepticons respect him, but he too seems to have a bit of charisma problem unless he is irritated. Scourge seems too withdrawn to want to be a leader. And Shockwave is dead...
@LaMortesAbyss scourge is a (word deleted) cyclonus is nuts. soundwave is the only suitable candidate coz he always seems to know the plan and he always knows what to do. most of the decepticons are basically gun firing nitwits.starscream and megatron and soundwave are the only ones that are memorable and cool.
@xXxBigTimeChrisxXx 8/10ths of season 1 and 2s autobots died in the movie(except wheeljack and another one who where meraly knocked out) optimus died from fatal wounds while fighting megatron, and ratchet, ironhide prowl, and a few others where on the shuttle when the decepticons invaded it killing them all.
so stop blasting them!
