This musical's so good: original plot, smart references to the wizard of oz (the tale), a social message, the sadness of Elphaba's story, characters that aren't what we expect them to be. Only one con: too complex to be made by an amateur group, at least competently. Not to mention how hard's to translate it into Spanish keeping the songs in rythm.

They have one that sticks out of there wig, and one on there ear in case the wig one goes out, and then al the wires go under there costumes and pinned at like the small of there back. Then Elphie also has a mic in her hat!

Just saw this on Broadway a this week with Stephanie Torns as Elphaba and Katie Rose Clarke as Glinda. Stephanie was a sub, but they were both amazing! And Katie Rose Clark's Glinda was hilarious and touching. Whoever created this play is brilliant.

I saw this a few nights ago! Best play I've EVER seen! Defying Gravity was by far my favorite song. When I saw it, though, this wasn't the woman playing Elphaba. She was played by an understudy that night. And she was fuckin amazing! Best play ever. I love it. X3

They do have microphones! They're just hidden in their costumes/wigs. Well of course their voices get hurt...that's what understudies are for. I'm sure they go through daily voice lessons, they warm up their voices before shows, and take precautions not to damage their voices.

There are a lot of vocal techniques you must train yourself to do to keep your voice from going out while in theatre. (google kristen linklater) It has a lot to do with taking care of yourself and knowing your limits. They do have mics... they are very small. They are on their foreheads and mostly covered with makeup and then the mic pack is strung through their hair and costume

They don't sing with their throat they sing from their diaphram(stomach). This also has to do with projaction and articulation which is why they do not have to use mic's.
