  • I called them, and they said no. Limit in size is 102 inches for a bike. Amtrak can take all kinds of vehicles, plus oversized 4-wheel vehicles, but they can't take a bike longer than a normal motorcycle - pretty lame!

  • @barry8844 ... sorry to hear that. I know they've got height restrictions on windshields as well ... some of the Gold Wing guys have that huge windshield which isn't allowed.

  • @barry8844 We're just gonna trailer them down. We'll have a great time anyway!

  • What are the chances I can put my chopper on this train? I want to do this in May. My bike is 9 feet 8 inches long. Definitely doesn't look like it will fit on the skid you have pictured. Have you hard of anyone putting a long chopper in a car spot? I'm headed to Lortorn on Saturday to check, as I live just down the road from the station.

  • @barry8844 It may be difficult from my experience. You'll want to ask Amtrak or go up there like you stated to make sure. They may have options I'm not aware of. Good luck and enjoy the trip.

  • bonita tu moto, así me gustaría un viaje, saludos desde chile

  • im putting my bike on the autotrain in sanford , all the way up to lorton va , and riding to canada for 8 days on the Vstrom , how was the train ride , any problems with the bike after the train ride ?

  • I've heard from a handful of people that had problems with their motorcycles. That was not the case with me. I supervised the tie-down and loading. Amtrak films all vehicles for liability reasons. The process was great in my opinion. We were in a "Superliner Roomette". Bring a book or something because the ride is a bit boring. Have a great trip and safe ride.

  • yeah i got the room also , I couldnt imagine sitting in a seat for 16 hours. The flight to europe is 10 hrs and that was bad enough.

I plan on being in a comma during the train ride . Hopefully I will be able to supervise the loading as well . Thanks again for the response , Hopefully I will run into some lonely, horny, chic with no scruples on the train for some entertainment.

  • Very funny 'horny chic' comment. I don't know how old you are but I recall the train goers being a bit more senior. You may want to bring your own babe on the train. The good thing is the train rocks back and forth and does most the work. Good luck.

  • I'm scheduled in April to take my Road Glide to Florida, and was wondering what problems folks had ? Any tips, or is it that simple and boring ?

  • Keep an eye on who and how the bike is being tied down. You don't want to over compress the forks. Tips? Bring a book, cards or something to pass the time. It is that simple. Enjoy the experience.

  • Thanks,.....they wont be compressing my forks. The tie downs will be coming off of my crash bars.

  • looks like fun and nice bike

  • What a great time. I can't wait to do it again.

  • Pretty cool. L@@ks like it was a great adventure.

    Thanks for sharing!
