You young guys are the future of railway preservation & all credit to you for giving the time & effort even for the more mundane tasks that still must be done. Can I however make a suggestion? Try 'painting' the coupling screw with old oil & go off for a 'cuppa' while it soaks into threads, dry off surplus oil with rag & let me know if it works!!
Thanks for the comment and tip - shall try that when I am down there next. I must say it has been well and truly smothered with oil but still seems to be stiff...
@StepneyDown Looks like the only solution will be good old fashioned 'elbow grease' & a lot of patience, should keep you busy for a while....good luck.
@StepneyDown Even better just take the coupling off and place it into a bucket of oil and leave it for about 10 mins if it still stays stiff after above technique!!
Awesome! I think people do forget that us volunteers, especially loco department and workshop staff are there the longest after everyone else has gone home.
You should try demolishing a brick arch in a terrier firebox! I was doing that last sunday. Tight fit to say the least :)

My mates a diesel driver on the NYMR, he only drives the locos etc, as there are others who do the dirty work for him.
