  • Comments have debate about internal and external martial arts. Essential difference based on texts is that internal martial arts do not rely on muscle tension for power. I repeat: muscle tension is not source of power in internal martial arts. It is hard for Westerners to understand this because we, as a civilization, lack an effective holistic image of how the human body functions.

  • I guess. But what does one do when faced with a .38 or a knife?

  • I certainly don't know everything but this guy's forms look like a modern variation, based on what I've been taught. His stances are in-line, like modern wushu instead of more squared or box stances but it is difficult to tell without having "felt" him.

  • There has to be external movement for the form to take shape. There is however, no external force. This is the nature of internal martial arts.

  • Remember I was here.Thai

  • At one tiny moment in time, Every part of your body is lined up perfectly to be the most devastating movement that your body can possibly make.

But it is also MUCH more than that.

It is using your opponents power against him by redirection and persuasion.

No fighting him, until the moment when you use YOUR (PERFECT) FULL BODY POWER ADDED ON TO HIS to devastate!

Kind of like "Clothes Lining" someone with a razor wire while doing 60 miles an hour, in the opposite direction. Yeah, that about it!

  • I Love Bruce and his books and Dvds!

I have learned a lot from his work!

The difference between Internal and External is "THOUGHT". If you throw a punch out and that is all you do, and just hit will all of your might,..that is external.

If, on the other hand, You have thought out your punches and practiced them over and over again so that you get the MOST POWER from your ENTIRE BODY, you can devastate with a once inch punch, because you have all your intent and FULL BODY POWER behind it!

  • @EmeiBaguazhang

Another difference is: external - contract motion and linear noncircular motion combined with some circular motion. Internal - circular motion, little contraction more extension, spike is freek, kua is ***OPEN*'**.

  • @EmeiBaguazhang

*The spine is free, flexible, straight, free, relaxed, free.

  • Ken Van Sickle is a good martial artist who studied with Cheng Man Ching and this guy pushes him while discussing legitimate topics in both push hands and the redirecting of energy. The Ba Gua demonstration is a nice illustration of circling. He understands the internal arts regardless of what you think you see.

  • His book "Power of Internal Martial Arts" is a Must for the serious Martial Artist.

  • The only way you can tell whether or not this guy or anyone truely know internal martial arts is by checking whether or not he/she can hurt the opponent without making visible moves.

This guy moves are visible. He don't know internal martial arts. He will pass if he can send the person flying without making visible moves.

  • Interesting comment. We haven't seen anyone who truly fits your description. One person we knew who claimed that ability would only allow photos to be taken by their own students, no outside video. Another who did allow video seemed to have a cult-like following who would fling themselves around. We are very suspect of people who claim to send people flying with no external movement although we are sure it exists. Perhaps there are a few clips you could point us to.

  • I am going to have to agree for the most part with you on this one. What that person is discribing is mysticism. Internal does not mean no external movement. They just need some education thats all.

    Be well

  • well internal is not "No external movement" but rather minimal external, maximal internal. For example, the 1-inch punch is just that- 1 inch external movement but extensive internal movement for energy to gather, travel downwards, spring&spiral upwards and travel out. This very difrent from external MA which use High external force&distance & minimal internal movement. ie- external punches tend to b mostly brute force requiring a few feet distance

  • mister franzis doesn't need to pass annything.

he made his mark and earned his place in the internal chinese arts world. it says nowhere that there should be no visable movement.

onely i think that movement and stillness are integrated. annyway sending someone flying is no messure for annything.

i think the concept of inside or outside are so deep and meaningfull that we can contemplate it long and deep and still know little to say about it factual

  • well it's obvious that you have never been involved with internal martial arts. There is an old saying: "You can't talk about the ocean with a frog in a well."

  • @niguanr You are so wrong it's not even funny. There are some who display this skill- but these are those who have evolved their method into that of psychic ability.

  • Hi kungfu brothers!

Im practicing Wan Kam Leung Wing Chun, and im very interested in other martial arts. The Chi and internal aspects within kungfu are not to be neglected. Fortunately my Sigung has studied qi qong(i guess iron shirt qi qong) near Beijing and has intergrated it in his Wing Chun system.

Well i hope to see more video posts of BK Kumar in the future.

    Kind kungfu regards from Holland

  • very nice. I live in Taiwan and have practiced some of these forms and have to say I am really impressed with this guy. Moves like a true master. Very impressive !

  • What does cause an endeavor, to be entirely Taoist?

  • i think he means that much in china is influenced by buddhism, confusiusm and taoism . by all 3.

the i ching and the 8 trigramms find there origin in taoist divination in tempels. without realy knowing i think baqua folows pure taoist principles of rise and decline.change and how to change with.

  • Would love to train with him, has the calm intensity that is vital to IMA

  • lol - I'm hearing, "take it easy", "take it easy" from Kumar's partner a great deal in this video. A few minutes in he makes a comment about cracking his ribs a little while back, which is obviously part of his concern, but quite frankly, I'd be equally nervous about doing partner work with a hugely proficient martial artist like BK Frantzis. He could hurt you. Fortunately, from what I read about him - he's certainly not that kind of man. Great series of videos - thanks very much for posting.
