My 8 and 10 year old girls fit in the 3rd row seat. Also My 14 year old boy and wife can also fit back there. Myself 6'4 cannot fit. We call the seat the just in case seat.
The outlander is a great little suv but I honestly would never get the 3rd row seat, too small flimsey and it takes up almost all of the cargo room when its up. Actually, I was suprised to find out that they even offered 3 rows in this car....
