We need another election! We need the conservatives out but we also need all of you who don't vote to show up and simply DECLINE YOUR BALLOT! Declining your ballot counts as a vote but not a vote for any candidate.
If the 49% of Canadians eligible to vote in the last election who didn't had showed up and declined their ballot, it would have made the results such that 49% of all ballot cast said "NONE OF YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH!" If you don't like any of the options, it's the best way to say so!
Because it's not about personal freedom. The LF Census is a tool to see, objectively, how a government's policies are affecting canadians with a large enough sample or reliability. In other words, it's they was WE as the people can see if the government has been benefiting us by how it has tended to the country.
The forms themselves don't carry anything to identify those answering. So all the noise about protecting privacy? Lies. The Cons are trying to avoid accountability.
Can we please ship the fucking Conservatives to the USA? They'd fit right in with the Republican party, but what the HELL are we tolerating them here for?
rbnchm. Ralph Goodale is a good man. One of the most respected politicians in this country, by partisans and non-partisans alike. Until the disasters that are the reformers/cons decided with the help of the RCMP to try and smear him in the middle of an election. Ofcourse he was proven innocent and the charges were unfounded but it was too late and the conservatives one that first election.
That is how nasty this bunch is. Cons are a disgrace to this country.
The Canadian government is the most oppressive in the entire west. The liberals and the conservatives are crooked as fuck, and they only care about their wallet size.
Canada's conservatives aren't as bad as the US republicans, but they are still a bunch of assholes. Let's face it people, Canada is a Liberal country for liberal people. Lets try to remember that during the next election.
Ask any of the more prominent media savvy illiberals how forced disclosures with harsh penalties fit within a Liberal mindset. How the naming of bank presidents adds to his evaluations of personal issues should tell you a lot more than most are prepared to understand. The word Liberal is simply a convenient use of a name, that has no connection to the final product being delivered.

Old Ralphy is on the Illiberal side as usual.. Perhaps some recommended reading for him would include "On Liberty" By John Stuart Mill who defined what Liberal Ideology should support. Its about personal rights and freedom {{DOHH}} Smoking Bans Health taxes and forced disclosures of what should be respected as private information are definitely not on the dance card. The modern illiberal wolves in sheep's clothing, are so far right of the neoconservative they would do McCarthy proud.
@elpoo So you support wasting $100 million dollars on a faulty survey method. Voluntary surveys have a serious validity problem from the get-go; this pricipal is a basic part of statistical sampling. It would be better to save the money and end it utterly than be half-assed.
@elpoo the Conservatives aren't standing up for you, they're saying they don't care about you at all or Canadians in general. They don't care about how we live, what we do, or what we have. All they are concerned with is their own power-grabbing ideology.
Your paranoid, Tea Party-ish use of the word coercion is pathetic.
.
And if you're really worried about privacy you should stay off the internet. Between Google and your ISP you have no secrets online at all.
@elpoo Statist coercion? Wow. You don't really care about the social contract, do you? What obligations, if any, do you feel you owe Canada? Half an hour once every four years doesn't seem all that onerous to me. None of the questions are intrusive, and if you think they are, I hope to Christ you don't own a credit card, a debit card, and also that you're posting to YouTube hidden behind multiple proxies and heavy-duty encryption.
What social contract? The thing you're describing is a social ultimatum. The government imposes monopolistic services without the consent of all parties. This is not a contract.
There is a big difference between government services and a debit or credit card service. The banks don't force you to take and pay for their cards at any point in your life, you get to voluntarily choose to have one.
Any benefits realized through force are illegitimate, as is a coerced census.
@aerocabin "any benefits realized through force are illegitimate"--Completing a census is a legal OBLIGATION. Otherwise known as a RESPONSIBILITY. These are baaaaad words in this self-entitled world, I realize, but necessary nonetheless.
I trust you haven't availed yourself of our health care system. Or public transit. Or any of the other myriad services which depend on information from the long-form census to function effectively. Since these benefits are illegitimate, and all.
These are false obligations and responsibilities. Slaves are not morally responsible for their masters. It would be no different if I unilaterally imposed a contract on you and expected you to be obligated and responsible to perform.
Why would you be surprised if I used public services when they've outlawed all competing services? Coercive monopolies are designed to force everyone to use them. Govt steals from me, I'll take every opportunity they give to take back what I lost.
@aerocabin If you truly view government as a master and yourself as a slave, I'm not sure we have anything to discuss or debate. You seem like an anarchist. Is that the case? I've never met one that would last a week under anarchy.
I mentioned the master/slave relationship as an example of a unilateral relationship where the slave is not morally responsible or obligated to do anything. The relationship between statist and individual is identical.
I'm not arguing from any political philosophy. You're using false concepts like the social "contract" to argue a position, and it's important to identify false concepts for what they really are.
thank god this man is in our parliament. Why didn't you learn french, Goodale...

Lets see Tony Clement thinks Census Data is a good idea
This could lead to letting people LIE ,or get groups together to
SKEW to set up a special agenda that is Thought or agenda planting
into the Census != lots of ways to taint the census?
II that why Tony wants to remove the fine for a skewed Census

Regarding the census:
The Tories certainly could avoid some controversies by simply going along with the Statist status quo.
But they have a good reason to act. Using coercion to extract intrusive personal information from Canadians is UNJUSTIFIED.
Frankly, I am relieved that the Conservatives have (for once) decided to stand up for individual freedom and against Statist coercion.
It's too bad that The Media have sided with the authoritarians.
