You guys keep talking about "some rich guy's" house. The cooking that the rich and the poor of PR do is exactly the same, and all the ingredients come from the same plaza mercado or some roadside vendor. That's what always facinated me about puerto rico, there's no cultural difference between rich and poor.
Sure, Anthony went to a "rich persons house," but the dishes that were served there were of the most unique combination and probably from high quality ingredients. It looked like the kind food I want to learn how to cook. Can anyone help me? I've been dying to make something yummy from the salted cod I saw at La Placita in Rio Piedras. and Baby Goat in red wine and rum - I'm beyond words. P.S. this show is not known for covering politics - it's about food.
ummm WRONG!! that is not Vieques. The island shown there is Palomino, a way smaller island just 3 miles (more or less) off the Fajardo shore. A part of Vieques was indeed used by the Navy but not Palomino. In fact Palomino is one of a few private islands in Puerto Rico, and part of is is rented to El Conquistador (one of the best hotels in Puerto Rico if not the best)
This is shit....they took Anthony to some rich folks house. They should have taken him to "your round the corner" cafeteria for him to eat, tripletas, biftec encebollao and similar stuff.
Shame on the Puerto Rico toursim company...shame on them
You forget to talk about how all those people that "fighted" against the US Navy to get it out of Vieques havent done shit to get new jobs to the residents of the island. It's easy to talk about how bad de Navy was but Vieques isn't better now...
that's so sad sometimes i think that the US dosen't have a heart .did they even stop to think for a moment that that testing could kill them or even distrupt their lives at all?
Of course they knew, but did they care is the question and the answer is no... Luis Munoz Marin, the first democratic governor of Puerto Rico, wrote to the United States about the dangers and the effects it will have for the people of Vieques. They still went with it anyway. Nothing new, they were just going on with tradition, which countinues to this day with Iraq. And tomorrow another unsuspecting victim.
Puerto Rico is a territory of the US, so they basically built army & Navy bases all over PR. But Vieques is a small island w/ a small population so the US decided it was easy to take it for their "testing". People of PR fought to get the navy out for years but they didnt leave until one of the bombs killed a civilian. Now 30% of people there have cancer
