  • We need more actors like this...

  • Peter Lorre was a famous dolphin right?

  • The awkward moment when you look at the upload date to see when this is from...

  • @spook81793 Haha well I tell you one thing....I watch this vid almost every day! it's so awesom!

  • PETER LORRE FTW

  • The best actor ever.

  • the story you'll remember for months?

  • @Jormungandor They clearly didn't think these movies would become classics, lol.

  • "now, i go watch ren and stimpy"

  • Peter Lorre is the best. <3

  • Peter Lorre is kind of a huge mack.

  • it's Ren!

  • I LOVE this guy, he probably is one of the best actors (if not THE best actor) in the history of cinema

  • I said it once I will say it again he is so fucking SEXY

  • dame his voice is so sexy and so is the rest of him

  • @thewolffromhell66666 He was!!! DAMN!!!

  • i was about to write that frankenstien guy from looney tunes... when i saw the cartoon version of him on the right....

  • ren!!!!

  • to Grayfox988 Peter Lorre was born to Ružomberok no in Hungary . NOOB

  • @opozzit11 In 1904 it was still Rózsahegy of Kingdom of Hungary, and László isn't a typical Slovak name, so what are you tying to prove?

  • Peter Lorre was born as László Löwenstein in Hungary. As a Hungarian I really hope my accent sounds something like this.

  • Peter Lorre. The voice of a mad scientist.

  • The most awesome thing is, he is still alive!

(No, not in a physical form, yet his type of voice is still used for mad scientists!)

  • What the heck???????????

  • ted healy's face at the end haha it's priceless!

  • Holy shit! It's Boo Berry

  • Yes, Ren's voice was indeed based on Peter Lorre, as talked about by John K. on the Ren and Stimpy Remastered DVD... and a great inspired choice it was of course!!

  • I have *got* to find this movie streaming somewhere - my sanity depends on it.

  • It's ren from ren and stimpy!

  • for months to come lol

  • thumbs up if celebrity hate mail 5 brought you here

  • Am i the only one who thinks Peter Lorre sounds like ren from ren and stimpy?

  • @reggiebush10895JKJK well the creator (john.K) of ren and stimpy meant to do that. look it up for yourself.

  • Her voice is horrible

  • being that I am of eastern European descent and that I like horror movies/tend to be highly cynical my friends always like to give me shit for being this guy's reincarnation. I don't mind though because Peter Lorre is awesome. The fact that I am into science probably doesn't help my case much but there we go...

  • This is the problem with modern cinema. People, homely people, brilliant and tortured people like Lorre, cannot get an iota of time in the public eye. I would love to believe that in a time of "viral" media, that he would have been hoisted above all the bullshit thrust upon the masses and revered as a great actor and artist. This is but a dream; for the infatuation with superficial beauty and physical fitness eclipse truly heartfelt portrayals and sincere, yet artistic, performance.

  • 1:36 Hello, next year's Halloween costume!

  • Needs more smoking.

  • It's Boo Berry!

  • Jeez the look at 1:39. Scarier than anything since. You can see it's influence in Dr. No and other films...

  • thts the guy who inspired ren's voice from ren and stimpy

  • @InvaderScuzz And also N.Gin's from Crash Bandicoot.

  • @Li8aGun92 i didn't know that and i love that game. :)

  • @InvaderScuzz I didn't play the old ones, but he still has that accent in the newer games. x3

  • RIP Macho man

  • If actors where really in the phone book like that, they would have to unhook the phone, they would get so many calls! :D

  • If actors where really in the phone book like that, they would have to unhook the phone, they would get so many calls! :D

  • I think the "fangirl" is Anne Nagel

  • this sounds like dr. n gin from crash bandicoot

  • I LOVE this movie! Possibly "Top Desert Island 5" love! Peter Lorre is delightful, and every minute of this movie is the best.

  • weird shit...i havent seen anything peter lorre in weeks. last night, i kept dreaming of him. i would wake up, go back to sleep then it would continue. i even SMELLED him...he put his head in my arms and i smelled him. it was so weird. the dreams kept me up half the night. weirded out here. dreams are dreams, wtf ever, but when u SMELL the person? idk.

  • @JennelleBelle You are lucky, I barely had rema swith him except that after I woke up I realized I had dreamt of him...

There were times that I felt around me, as if putting both his arms on my waist though I never go to smell him :(

  • @brendaPMB yea other times ive dreamt i was walking along some kind of canal and he came out of nowhere and grabbed my hand, leading me along. i gotta quit watchin youtube before bed lol

  • @brendaPMB I meant Dreams.. lol

I had dremas where I found myself being the main character of the movie "Stranger on the 3rd floor" where I knew what Peter was up to so I followed him, he wasn`t being as dangerous as he was in the movie...but I felt happy that I was there...

  • @JennelleBelle Did he smell of cigarrets?.. that cute bugger was a heavie smoker as you might know by now...lol

  • @brendaPMB lol no...he had put his head in my arms and it was that hair/head smell loool

  • @JennelleBelle I so envy you lol it`s just good envy lol

In my case, I don`t get to smell Peter but feel him around me.. it`s just his arms touching me...

  • @brendaPMB holy crap...last nite i had ANOTHER! i was at work and he, but in an older form, was sitting on the other side of the table and down a bit wearing a tux lol. all these other people were there too, then he came over n sat next to me. then we were out and i remember him mighting a match for our cigs and i was like, im gonna blow it out for him. then we kissed...on the patio of my office building! i felt it@ really soft lips, but it wasnt the younger him:(

  • @JennelleBelle Nice, you can really feel the man..

*Sigh* it´s been a long time since I don´t dream about him...

  • @JennelleBelle U R SO LUCKY!!!!

  • @SpockLover27 i dunno...but its definetly weird. i think i know what sparked the dreams tho...i recently got back with an old flame who has the EXACT same voice, accent (he's not german tho) and height. even smokes his cigs and has the same wise ass facial expressions and laid back demeanor. its a real sight to sit there and watch lol. kinda hard to forget about peter when ur practically sleeping with his double...but still, peter is irreplaceable but its fun to pretend ;)

  • @JennelleBelle My goodness, you are even more lucky then I thought! He sounds amazing ;D

  • @SpockLover27 hay u can ur own peter too...just go overseas like i did...there everywhere lol! ive been to italy egypt and germany and theres millions of em lol

  • @JennelleBelle Ohhhhh. :D *packs bags to head to Germany* XD

  • @JennelleBelle I get your point but for me I´d rather meet someone with a sense of humour similar to Peter but the guy doesn´t have to look like him) I don´t know.. I wouldn´t want to call him "Peter" while sleeping with him (some guys would not take it that funny lol)

  • @brendaPMB

Interesting that you wonder of Lorre smelled of cigarettes...During his Mr Moto movies, his teeth were really in poor shape, and he had advanced pyorrhea... they said it was brutal to be in the same scenes with him...Around 1940 or so he had dentures put in. It's possible that the morphine he used contributed to his dental porblems.

  • "In a story you'll remember for months to come".......well thats not very memorable is it lol

  • @morphy671 Yeah really, they weren't thinking of the long term were they? Lol

  • I love his voice.

  • I love his expression when the woman told him that she thought he was great in "M."

  • @ShortyLongstrokin Lol, yeah I thought his reaction was funny too especially since that character was a child killer (I think a rapist too if i'm not mistaken).

  • @NYCPANCAKES Yeah the rapist thing is pretty much implied in the film.

  • Is it this film that has the amazing glass like hands, really beautifully designed things...that go along with that really spooky outfit at the end of this video? I mean, that must have scared the wits out of audiences way back then. Those guys were really pros.

  • today is the 47th anniversary of his death:(

    RIP my love.

  • @JennelleBelle and now today liz taylor shares this day with him as the day of death. wow.

  • what a creepy guy

  • i guess back then it was easy to call celebritys :P

  • @uberhaxor69 Yeah I guess back then celebrities didn't mind being stalked by weird women, lol. :P

  • He has the weirdest eyes

  • Is that his laugh at 1:38-1:47? Oh my gosh! Rofl! It's rather eerie.

  • @DancingShulammite yep it is

  • He...he has no hair.

  • @smileyface7727 Lol, that was actually his idea; he didn't think the character would waste time worrying about his looks, lol.

  • @NeverDoubt1 Yes, it was his own idea, but he looked handsome with his bald head...

  • After watching M ... I have to say the Germans were wayyyy ahead of us movie-making wise back then.

  • @Fozzymillow Definitely they were very pioneering. It's truly a shame that their industry was basically destroyed by the Nazis who were only interested in making propaganda films. Though today Peter Lorre is one of the few actors from that era still recongized today, which is great. :)

  • @SheriffGillespie I wish I could have!!!

  • They should make a bio film about him

  • @DrLeonardBonesMcCoy yea but how do u find someone that looks like him?

  • @JennelleBelle True Bio-films do pretty much suck due to the person cast as the main like Walk the line (good film but Joaquin Phoenix doesn't look like Johnny Cash) or Ali

  • @DrLeonardBonesMcCoy peter is just too irreplaceable. even if they found someone that looked like him, it still wouldnt feel the same.

  • @JennelleBelle Also they would have to get other actor to play famous people like Vincent Price,Sidney Greenstreet ,Humphrey Bogart and possibly Fritz Lang. I want to see a animated version of people Peter but not caricatured.

  • @DrLeonardBonesMcCoy those people can be found im sure. they didnt have the striking appearance or behaviours he did.

  • @JennelleBelle True, he was irreplaceable!!!

  • @DrLeonardBonesMcCoy I`m studying to be a film maker and I`m a big fan of this man. It`s also my dream to make a movie about him...

  • @brendaPMB I will be first in line to see it at the cenima.

  • @DrLeonardBonesMcCoy Oh thank you! I guess it will be something uncommon (or maybe not) that an argentinain (I am from that country) makes a film about him. I hope one day I get to make the film!!!

  • @brendaPMB A movie about Peter Lorre? Done right, that would be such an amazing picture. The only problem is how easy it would be to mess it up; taking such a character as Peter Lorre and just turning him into a caricature (which would be far too easy to do, unfortunately). But if they could do really well and get the cast right (not just Lorre but also Humfrey Bogard and Sydney Greenstreet.

If it could be done right, I would see again and again! One of the greats needs a great film.

  • @twdalbeck27 I know of that and I wouldn`t try to make a caricature out of Lorre, I`d try to portray him the way he really was and not just a caricature

  • @brendaPMB The only reason I brought that point up is due to the fact it would be really easy to look at Lorre through his movies and assume that is how he was in his personal life. It was similar with Jackie Gleason in that biopic they had on CBS back some years ago.

  • Damn, I accidentally press the dislike button. I don't dislike the video. It's pretty good.

  • Damn. Peter- Peter Lorre had it going on . . .

  • @bluesun7777 He did bring it on when he had to.. suchsexy little man *sigh

  • He would make a BRILLIANT villain in the films of nowadays.

  • @malizlewa I agree there.. the movies need someone like him nowadays!

  • Peter Lorre has a awesome sexy voice. lol

  • @Quetzalqoatl99 Not only a sexy voice.. he was also sexy!!! :D

  • @brendaPMB He sure was. lol

  • This trailer is kind of bizarre but awesome.

  • Why did the studios want him to get his teeth fixed? I thought it really added to his character! It's what help make him unique!

  • @Dorisday0112 Well as interesting as it looked, his teeth weren't very healthy so they were probably going to have to come out eventually anyway.

I like both of his looks, but I think it is pretty apparent in the movie You'll Find Out that his jaw was beginning to suffer.

His biography does talk about his look going from macabre to suavely villainous, which go along better with his later film noir roles. :)

  • @NeverDoubt1 Thank you for your reply about Peter Lorre's teeth... that is an interesting fact.. I have not read his complete biography yet, but I plan to soon!

  • Peter Lorre was a GREAT actor! I like this clip I am going to buy the movie.

  • @Dorisday0112 I'd definitely recommend the movie. It sounds like it would be bad, but it's actually quite intriguing at times.

  • Kinda sad how many people have given thumbs up to that "Now women are ugly anorexic skanks" comment. They miss old times because people had class, but strangely give thumbs up to a comment that's obviously very unclassy.

  • @markuspetteri That's a good point. Their bitterness about the world (though often justified) just ends up contributing more to the problem.

  • Dear lord, I wish people still spoke like this.

  • peter lorre had whats called graves disease, that stemmed from his long term issues with his gall bladder. it swells the membranes in the back of the eye sockets pushing the eyeball forward. nowadays its fixable.

  • @JennelleBelle I completely disagree. Marty Feldman of Young Frankenstein clearly had Graves disease, which is a thyroid disorder and not a liver/gallbladder disorder as you inaccurately stated, but Peter Lorre did not, as evidenced by his eyes' normal setting within the sockets and his ability to close and open his eyelids without strain. He did have his appendix removed, leading to his morphine addiction, but in no biography of him have I read that he had a thyroid disorder.

  • @Chizpurfle52595 Lorre had suffered for years from chronic gall bladder problems, which doctors had prescribed morphine. Lorre became trapped between the constant pain and dependence on morphine facilitates the problem. Gall bladder problems and thyroid issues come hand in hand, and after a removal, its common to have hyperthyroidism, and that it what created the eyes to bulge. but anyway, it doesnt really matter, as he is a beautiful man and thats why im here watching his vids.

    good day.

  • @Chizpurfle52595 ...dont base everything you learn on biographies as some add to the truth to sell that book, add things they think are truth if they dont have enough resources to get the truth from, or keeping some truths out to keep them in a good light. what i know about him comes from my own family's past with warner brothers studios (backstage crew and walk ons of course, no actors), and i never read a biography about him in my life.

  • @JennelleBelle I agree with that you say about biographies, I read them but I take some words with a pinch of salt since the are not Peter´s own words but a author´s words and that´s all.

Peter didn´t like the idea of having a biography written because he didn´t like to tell things about himself, I guess one has to agree with him on that respect! :)

  • @Chizpurfle52595 for example, he used to exit female costars rooms zipping up his pants as people outside saw him just to mess with them.

  • @JennelleBelle: well, this particular anecdote happens to be mentioned in a biography ;)

  • @Nordenwald and like i said, i never read any biography about him (or anyone for that matter, because unfortunately, i hate to read. seriously, i dont think i own one book.) but if its in there, its probably because it ws something everyone seen.

  • @norae7 Oh I know, the studios really went over the top insisting he was so creepy looking. Especially when actresses like Betty Davis had the same prominent eyes but were considered gorgeous. ;)

  • @norae7 Lol, yeah seriously, they really didn't see these films as lasting for years to come, nevermind ending up on a channel like TCM (Btw Mad Love will be on TCM October 30 at 12:45am :) )

  • @norae7 Oh, as he got older, his features became more exaggerated- It was all in good fun :)

  • Holy crap, Ted Healy?

  • Creepy. Suave. Attractive. I like him. Too bad he's gone.

  • 0:31 that face is hysterical. Especially since "M" is an odd movie to say you loved. Not that it isn't a brilliant film.

"Peter Lorre! Big fan! Loved when you played that child-murdering serial rapist!"

  • @taureleafsilver Lol yeah seriously and what's funny is that's pretty close to the reaction he got from some women in real life after he did M.

  • Big freaking HUGE dog next to him at :16!!!! I love this guy by the way, hehe <3

  • I think the fan-girl is Gail Patrick, whose best-known part, I think, was as the nasty sister Cornelia in "My Man Godfrey". It certainly sounds liike her to me!

  • Maybe this movie is where the "Melbourne Method" was first practiced.

  • creepiest voice on tv boss

  • I bought the first season of Ren & Stimpy today. And at one of the extra's there was an interview with the creator of the cartoon, John K, saying that the voice of Ren Hoek was strongly inspired on Peter Lorre.

  • @dsmaster92 good for you and your boxset.

  • @EinEdward Is that comment necessary?

  • @dsmaster92 No, I apologize.

  • "It is not I who am crazy... it is I who am mad!"

  • To be fair he was great in M...

  • Peter Lorre is a Awesome actor, In alot of Smashing roles*****5/5*****4 video's!!

    thanks,

    CaptainNemoful

  • this is where john k. got the voice for ren

  • A rather sexy man.. never thought I'd say that about him, lol

  • @klickenpod Oh he was a hot sexy man and very talented as well

  • @klickenpod he was truly a man of many faces. he can go from creepy to handsome without any try. i like his mouth. however, his teeth were kind, eh.

  • @JennelleBelle Did you know the studio actually demanded he get his teeth fixed? Starting in Face Behind the Mask, he's wearing false teeth. It's pretty obvious when you compare it to the previous film You'll Find Out.

  • @Heralde8 ya i watched mad love last night and i got to see the full rack of teeth...pretty ew. probably from yrs of morphine abuse. however he was still babyfaced n cute;)

  • @JennelleBelle Yeah there's something strangely adorable about Dr. Gogol, hehe.

  • @klickenpod He couldturniton...never thought like that either...but loved hs films

  • MAD LOVE?.......

WE ALL KNOW SOMETHING OF MAD LOVE don't we?

  • This was the voice that inspired John K to do Ren's voice in Ren and Stimpy :)

  • mad love is demanded love .

    great movie.

  • Ted Healy!

  • in the first brave little toaster (1988 film) the lamp that comes out in the appliance parts store is also a peter lorre imitation

  • Aww Peter Lorre, why are you so crazy?

  • 1:34 - Hannibal Lecter!!

  • @rtms1988 Yeah a little too similar to be a coincidence, hehe.

  • He obviously got his teeth fixed before coming to Hollywood.

  • @hemming57 Actually he did quite a few Hollywood movies before getting his teeth fixed, including the Mr. Moto series. :)

  • @Heralde8 Peter just had to get his teeth fixed because according to Leon Ames (his co worker in the Moto series) it was quite unbearable to be in the same room with him due to his bad breath...

  • I mention Peter Lorre in The Celebrity Song.

  • Hey i saw this on TCM in Halloween! Cool!

  • Sein deutsch ist wesentlich besser und angenehmer zum anhören als sein englisch.

His german perfomance considering the language is way more convienent and more pleasing than his english perfomance.

The phone call part was aweful, ironically actually kind of stereotype german pronouncation.

Nevertheless its Peter Lorre, one of the best actors, who ever lived;if you are addicted to psychopaths and sex offenders;)!

  • I liked him in some old time radio horror such as Mystery in the Air - The Black Cat.

  • He was great

  • God, I can't get over how adorable he is. Especially the eye roll.

I need to run out and get Mad Love now. <3

  • Fantastic!!!!!!! Showed this to my students; thanks for uploading and sharing this!

  • @Lacedaemonia He was amazing. I've always liked him! One of the greats from a bygone era! I'm glad you could share him with a new generation!

  • @Lacedaemonia Good for you introducing Peter Lorre to your students! As bartonim said, new generations should get to see these classic films.

  • A film you'll remember for months!

  • I remember a movie he did in the later Forties that creeped me out. It was called THE BEAST WITH FIVE FINGERS, and dealt with some dead composer's disembodied hand supposedly killing all its former owner's enemies!

  • he was the basis for ren's character

    in ren and stimpy

  • @lampchin57 Yes, the classic voice became Ren!

  • women were so much prettier and classier and had beautiful hair and figures back then. Now they're ugly, anorexic skanks

  • spot on!
