  • This is really beautiful, thank you for sharing. It would be awesome if South Pacific Catholics could use kava instead of wine for communion, but as long as you're allowed to have it after mass it's all good ;).

  • This is also Polynesian..Because there's a Samoan and a Tongan holding the Bible/Gospel.

  • The utmost timing and precision of the Fijian Warriors Dancing also signified the Solemn and Importance of the ocassion.

    Vina Du Riki

-Thank You Father Jeffrey for uploading This.

  • -Fiji The Way The World Should Be :- Pope John Paul II

  • I think the Pope vomited a little in his mouth.

  • @dacatholicbandorgan

Didnt see it. Why would he?

  • I must ask. Why is the dancing more important than say the Kneeling for Communion on the muddy cold ground by a number of faithful which was also filmed?

  • thats is awsome

  • I have just discovered this magnificent celebration. remind folks YESHUA-JESUS- GREW UP IN AFRICA, until age of 6 or 7.. all FIRST WORLD people dance in celebrations, including the Habiru-the Jews (David danced before the Lord). Brothers and sisters should not attempt to persuade the "frozen chosen" melanin challenged WHO CANNOT POSSIBLY UNDERSTAND. ( Eastern Europe understand, they dance as well, Greeks, the Russians, and Armenians, ancient Christian churches"

    Humbly submitted

    Pax

  • Watching this video I see a joyful celebration of a beautiful sacrament. It is a SACRAMENT OF CELEBRATION! It is sad that Jesus died but more important, he rose again. Mass is about life. We can have eternal life because of Jesus' gift of salvation. The older I get, I realize just how much the mass is about life. We should celebrate it as such. Reverence can still be given in joyful song and prayer and dance. One should study the current teachings of the church to understand this!

  • Typical catholic mixing of the cultures, traditions and religious beliefs into one big lump of ecumenical, nonsensical, anti-biblical, anti-God, anti-christian confusion.

You go great whore of babylon, keep digging that hole deeper and deeper.

  • Vinaka Vakalevu!! ( Thank You , very much) The song is reffering to John 1:1. Quote - In the begining was the "word", & the "word' was with God, and the "word" was God. Islanders love to rejoice God's word with happy songs and dances. God Bless!!

  • I thought the Pope would know better? This is Liturgical Abuse!!! What the heck? Anyways...this is much better than the clown masses I've seen. LOL

  • @Tony9712262 He does, how he lets this happen is a wonder.

  • ANATHEMA!

  • There is nothing sacreligious about it. Its the same as altar boys accompaning the gospel in a procession with candles.

ITS NOT WITCHCRAFT. The words being sung is about the lords words are about to be read out to all man.

That you father jeffrey for posting it. Im proud that my people give the gospel the reverence it deserves.

  • Excuse me, where in the Roman Missal or Cannon Law does it say that Daning is permitted in the Celebration of the Eucharist? I could certainly find where it is prohibited.

Although respect does need to be shown for the Gospel this is far from it. Our Reverance should be pointed towards Christ in the Real Presence in the Consercrated Hosts and Wine. We could start by avoiding thease liturgical abuses and start kneeling for holy Communion.

  • mixed papii get your facts right this is the true church of God his son jesus gave the key 2 st peter 2 set the church of christ up on the rock so maybe you should go and be judged before you judge a religion i mean a true and holy religion.

  • Im judging the religion based off of FACT you idiot. And I wasnt judging THE RELIGION itself, but how people were making comments about how discraceful it is to have this TYPE of Mass with Native peoples performing in there own way.

Remember the pope is NOT god. There is only one and TRUE god. I worship no other but HIM. So as far as catholosism and the Pope and what not...I really could care less. I mean really, did god appoint the pope to be his personal assistant? lol

  • "jesus gave the key 2 st peter"

Where's your biblical proof of this?

  • @BloodTar Matthew 16

  • @nexxt87

That was a typo on my part. I meant to ask...Where is your proof other than what's written in the bible? Catholics have ZERO proof of anything, especially since they controlled the biblical texts for over a thousand years and may very well have re-written much of them, if not all of those texts (the bible) to lean in their favor.

Never, ever trust any claim that comes out of the Vatican...ie..Roman Catholicism.

  • @ dacatholicbandorgan and mixedpapii, you are totally wrong on viewing and thinking of what the Pope should have done on the Melanesian (Fijian) dancers. Its not witchcraft dancing, its just the carrying of the Bible to the altar done traditionally - the Fiji way. In 1985, Pope John Paul ii visited Fiji, was welcomed traditionally and all. Pope said 'Fiji the way the world should be' Vinaka Vakalevu.

  • I did not say that it was wichcraft. Im just sayn that the catholic COMMENTERS shoudnt look down on the Fijians for dancing at Mass, for it is people like them who FORCED Catholisism and Christianity on islanders like the Fijians.

  • This is incredibly sacrelegious and the Pope would not approve of this if he didn't know about this first. He even did Communion Kneeling for crying out loud.

  • To all the comments disagreeing to what is going on here at Mass with the intermixing of Native peoples is ridiculous. Its not like we had a choice to convert to Christianity or Catholicism. The catholics are the BIGGEST liers in history. They have KILLED more people than any other religion. And that is a FACT. Im Polynesian and I could care less about what anyone has to say. We will all be judged one day, lets just hope you racist burn in hell! =]

  • Those who love Jesus will God willing go to Heaven and those who do not will go where they want to go!

God desires all be saved but we all have a free will! He will not force us!

don't forget the head hunters and I'm not talking about people looking for jobs!

  • Does ur religion teach you to hate on catholics?? You can't judge the catholics now for what the catholics back in history did. Yes we will all be judged but leave the judging for God.

  • i love this. it shows the multiculturalism and universality of the Catholic faith, expressing music and dance foreign to Christian Europe, but remaining true to the truth God endowed us with through Jesus Christ. woot woot. this shows it truly is a global celebration hearing and receiving the Word of God...Jesus.

  • .

Remember Christians, the will of God is no Catholic, Protestant,Orthodox, Penticostal, Adventist, JW, Etc. NO DIVISION, Only Christians, holy, helping and sharing instead of buying and selling.

"That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." (John 17:9-21)

  • Vinaka vakalevu Father Jeffery for sharing this wonderful clip of the Papal Mass from Down Under. Such joy to see native fijians being invited to sing and the carrying of the bible. Much Bless from Saint Pius X Parish, Raiwaqa Suva Fiji Islands.

  • thank you so much for posting this i feel a deep sense of pride watching my people from the tiny group of islands of fiji having a chance to preform for the pope

i feel even more prouder because in 1862 my ancestor became catholic and his entire domain converted as well

    vinaka

  • Two parts that touched me more than anything else during the FINAL MASS...first ...(song) Taste and See sung by Francine Bell ...second ...this Sacred Dance performed by Fijian dancers and choir...What a BEAUTIFUL MEMORY !!!

  • Isa that was beautiful indeed! nice meke and singing from the choir! Proud to be Fijian!

  • Im neither catholic nor melanesian but

I can feel the spirit !!!! I am crying!

This is truely honest! Great! Love!

    Thank you for posting!

  • Just as Similar To The Gospel Procession During Pope Benedict's Mass In Cameroon.

  • quelle honte

  • This is really nice men i love what the Fijians have done. I am really proud to be a melanesian after seeing this video. God bless Fiji...

  • The spirit is truly alive at this Mass. Tnank you for posting it, Father.

  • This is a beautiful example of how Catholicism embraces all cultures.

The Pope obviously allows it, do the critics know more than him?

  • In the philippines they have the sinulog festival which is the dance of the people to accept the catholic faith in that country. those people are those who were converted after the coming of the spaniards and so the dance still exist today to give praise to the most high.

  • oops *someone ^ Not me lol

  • Any Thanks very Much father for this post

    God Bless

  • This video is just a joke. Pagans dancing in their naked butts in front of the Holy Pope of Rome? And what are they uttering? I don't even understand a word of it.

  • To my bro here Im catholic and I come from where these people come from. The Church in the South Pacific is really enriched by our dancing, singing but also by our traditional cultures when we celebrate mass...it is our way of praising God.

  • its actually fijian u fuckface! a little something called culture

  • yes i agree with reid23q they arent paegan dancers this is a culture and religion combined together u

  • Calling somebody a "fuckface" is actually generally considered stemming from a lack of culture, so your cheap and bad spelled message has rather missed its point. Are you black by any chance?

  • Ah, so the racism comes out. Is this what the traditional movement is all about? Cultural imperialism and racism?

    Thank God for Vatican II.

  • Also, the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, a traditionalist institute, was founded in Africa.

    Racism is a mortal sin.

  • I'm glad you say it's a moral sin because left-wing goons, the new fascists with their self proclaimed moral superiority, are inded guilty as sin.

  • I agree.

  • What if he wasn't?

  • procesia

  • HHHAAHHAAA! HAAAAAAAAAa!!!! HAHAHAHAA!! Wait, this is a joke right? Somebody doctored this video. This can't possibly be happening at a Roman Catholic Mass. No way.

  • The act of incensing the altar was orginally a dance! It's amazing how much we don't know about the ancient rite of worship in the Roman Rite.

  • Bring back the Tridentine Mass! Now!

  • It's already back. In case you didn't hear, the Pope did a Moto Proprio last year for bishops to allow wider use of the Tridentine mass in their dioceses. Petition your Bishop!

  • Won't do any good, if your "bishop" is an arch-modernist heretic like Roger "the dodger" Mahoney. Of course, he's in good company I suppose, since all his brother "bishops" are also heretics; not a Catholic to be found among them.

  • How beautiful!

  • How is this Liturgical abuse? They (priests and seminarians) have the book of the Gospel hoisted up like a King and they're giving a stately delivery for the reading. It may not have the same form that you're used to but this is highly reverent in a way that most of us almost never experience. It's an elevation and exultation of the Word. This is during the Liturgy of the Word. A priest carried the book of the Gospel to the lectern and very nervously chanted the reading. Thanks Fr Jeffrey.

  • Aww the procession was awesome. My friends and I enjoyed it and it was nice to see some of my old friends from fiji at wyd.

  • It would be Liturgical Abuse if it is done during the Mass. This dance was done at the closing of the Mass.

  • what so many people forget is that dance as part of liturgy is an expression of prayer just as music is. Dance as a religious expression is part of many cultures and Catholics are worldwide, not just in the US. Is it also liturgical abuse to dramatize the gospel? Liturgical movement is NOT a performance but a prayer in the form of movement.

  • What I'm wondering is how, when the liturgical norms are given on the authority of the Pope, how can the Pope then be accused of liturgical abuse?

  • You don't seem to know anything about mass

  • LITURGICAL ABUSE???

  • Nope. This is a performance not the Mass itself.

  • How can you say dance is not part of the mass? You must be an American that has never travelled out of your hole

  • Don't be denigrative to Americans. Their culture is theirs. The cultures of each is their own. Dance for mass is part of some, but not for all. Please don't try to discourage one though by denigrating their own tradition. It is counterproductive to the faith.

  • I am fuller apologative my english is imperfect. Using his account for this. We have song and dance for worship, but not all Catholics do, nor do they NEED to. It is just one way to express our adoration for the risen Christ, and the One True God.

  • Dance is indeed not part of the mass. Come out of your own brown hole more often and read about what Cardinal Arinze said about it recently.

  • "Cardinal" Arinze is most certainly not Catholic, but a representative of the Novus Ordo Sect. Unfortunately, these blasphemous, pagan and sacrelegious rituals are all too common in the invalid Novus Ordo "Mass", more properly called a "Mess", which is exactly what it is.

Recommend a Traditional Latin Mass, where you'll receive the genuine Corpus Christi, not the invalid Novus Ordo cookie. You'll even feel the presence of Our Lord in a Traditional Catholic church or chapel. Give it a try!

  • I respect your intentions, but mind that the good Pope Gregory I said to convert native, pagan traditions and so on to the worship of our Lord. Perhaps this is the intention and meaning of such dancing and singing. I'm not at all arguing that you are incorrect, but rather that this is more nuanced and difficult.

  • I sure do disagree with you, just this mixing of cultures with the intent of being "respectful" to other cultures mostly has the opposite effect. And I'm not sure if conversion was actually the goal here. There's much of "feel good" publicity by the modern church, especially onder JPII, around.

  • FIJIAN Version

    (In Fijian)

  • Nice Pacific representation...Fijian singers, Fijian warrior dancers with one Samoan, one Tongan, one Vanuatuan and Solomon Islander on each side carrying the Book.

  • Wow. I have never seen a gospel procession like this before!

  • Pacific style!

  • Of course the Good Lord from above gave us the talent to meke and sing with the beauiful voices of the south seas

  • I would love to get a translation, I've learned that when verse is said in other languages it has amazing weight. I know for instance in Lao, there are some words that are not directly translated into English. I'm sure that it could be the same scenario in other languages. Really beautiful!

  • this is one of my favorite part of the final mass. Thanks father for uploading this. I still have goosebumps watching this.

does anyone know the title of the song and any translation of the lyrics? I happen to have a very clear mp3 recording of this fijian chant. Superb reverence to the Gospel!!!!

  • I would like to have a copy of it, would you mind sending it to me if I gave u my email address?

  • Hello... I see you have a claer mp3 recording of the chant?!? where did u get by the way? i want a copy... :)

  • This was definitely one of the highlights of the Mass! You wouldn't happen to have a clip of the opening hymn, "Gloria a te, Cristo Gesu" also?

  • Thanks for posting Father. The procession so great and solemn.

  • That's great. A solemn Gospel procession indeed.

    Thanks Father.

  • Interesting but rather repetitive.

  • It's a tribal chant. It's supposed to be repetitive and meditative.

  • i;m part samoan(even though i look white) and it's so nice to see our fijian brother's and sister's representing the beautiful culture of the islands.

  • This is the only part of the mass that was enjoyed. Why didn't they play more traditional Australian and the Music from the islands? What the choir played was not as captivating as this. Plus this music is brings the heart closer to God. My opinion may stem from the fact that I am from a dancing culture but that is my two cents.

  • Father Jeffrey thank you so much.

    your videos are excellent.

    God bless

  • Fantastical indeed

  • Watched the highlights of the event this morning, fantastic. Great to see such a large turnout too!
