wrong role, wrong voice, wrong schooling, wrong repertoire. She should stick to Strauss, Mozart, Salieri maybe have her wicked way with some baroque but definitely stir away from French and Belcanto repertoires.
@eradesso I really hate comments like that, without any hint or argumentation, purely malicious, not to mention - stupid. This comment in itself disqualify you as a person competent to judge. It you don't like Damrau in this repertoire just don't listen to it! It's as simple as that
@masterka argumentation? what do u want more than what i said? if you aren't competent enough to understand what I wrote it's your problem not mine.
I can post a comment not a dissertation.
By the way, Mr Bright, I don't see any maliciousness in recognising she is great for Mozart Salieri Strauss or expecting her to have above average results in Baroque.
@eradesso I want proofs, arguments, some kind of reasoning, not simple statements "she's horrible in this". What's so wrong about her voice, schooling and... everything?! You didn't say, instead giving us a bunch of insults. Her "wicked ways" maybe work for Mozart and some baroque - this is for you recognizing she's great in something? Don't be silly
@masterka I read you are from Poland and maybe you do not fully understand English. "Wicked" has also a positive meaning that is more commonly used by younger people as "cool".. it really depends on the context but since it came after the reference to Mozart, Salieri etc where her achievements are objectively recognised...
@masterka Anyway, I can't really school people here. Do you not know the differences between a German and an Italian schooling? Do you not know the differences between Mozart style and Belcanto singing?
The harsness and codness of the voice, the problematic enunciation, the lack of a long legato line..
Next to that, she has a very small instrument that doesn't project at all and gets drowned by heavier orchestrations and cori.
@eradesso That's a reasoning. Just leave the remark's about people's nationalities and it will be perfect! I don't know if you've ever been to Poland but I was in Italy and no one spoke to me like that. Btw, I don't need to trust you, I've heard her live too so I have my own opinion.
@masterka oh my god man you need some xanax!!!!!!! Did I say "I see you are a dirty Polsh"???? I just said I read you are from Poland and unless things have changed since I last visited Poland, English isn't the national language so I was guessing you didn't know the use of the word "wicked".
And the "trust me i've heard her live a few times" was to tell you
1) i like her enough to actually go see her
2) i'm not judging her based solely on youtube performances
@eradesso W, w, w, w; shure?! coloratura "di forza" is well done and the voice is colored enough for Marie ( to improve her french! ) the recent Linda di chamounix was a great and good surprise ( better legato, strong coloratura, perfect "projection" italian style well in hand...). Far better than Netrebko who sings Donizetti like Puccini (Mimi Bolena!) or Fleming like Gershwin (Bess Borgia!). First my opinion was your but with time and good listening i've changed my mind about DD
Gonna see it tonight. Can't wait, although from what I heard here Sutherland sounds more solid in this and Dessay a bit more ornamentaly interesting. Well, gotta hear it live
To say that Damrau had the wrong schooling is to deny the greatness of the likes of Rita Streich, Maria Stader, Ina Berger...

That was worse than Sutherland. I understood nothing but "ooh aah, ooh ooh aah aaa"

@eradesso Wicked may mean that or may not. The remark about my nationality was pitiful.

@eradesso
Pray, WHO IS the best bel canto soprano around now that fits in with your blessed criteria?
Don't tell me Anna Netrebko or Sumi Jo.
Cissy97 8 months ago
@eradesso ???? She has one of the strongest voices! Dramatic coloratura soprano, it's called. And yes, I've heard her live.

Wrong review. Yours.
Damrau is the BEST coloratura soprano around NOW.
