concluded watching the highlights something like 10 mins ago and i'm still amazed.i don't know what...hit me.What an amazing match it must have been...
great vid,but u shouldve put the moment when they both handed the racquets to ballboys for 2,3 points..:D It was in 5th set, maybe 15 - 15 or something
El Aynaoui had such a huge forehand when he went for it. For such a dynamic attacking player, he was often reluctant to go for much on it at times. He also got screwed badly a couple of times in this match. Roddick was also so dynamic back then, a real exciting player, have no idea why he has become so passive.
that´s why i love roddick he paly with his heart no matter if he die trying... and this is one of the greates match that i ever seen.... i hope he recovery his form this year after all the injurys....
the Moroccan Youness shoud have won the australien open at that time really he was amazing and what a match,,i still remember watching this match at 6 am in my time ..wont forget this match pure great tennis really,,if nadal or federer were in this march vs one of these champions, they wud have been crushed..thanks al aynaoui
a true battle of fitness this one. what a classic. had a lot more leverage imo, than the isner mahut one. but thats not to say that one wasn't good. both are classics and im so privileged to be born in an era where i have experienced these.
Tennis was betetr back then. Characters like El Aynaoui from Morocco and Scrichapan from Thailand made it good. now its always just the same countries represented.
Roddick did everything better than he does now, except the serve. He showed a good volley, big forehand but could move it around, backhand was solid (it's no better today) and moved really well. Pretty sad that his best tennis came in 03/04 when he was young. Kind of like Djokovic.
@Anaconda43VR I disagree. I think overall, Roddick is a better, smarter player then he was back then. True, he could really bone crush the ball when he was younger, but now, he knows he doesn't have to. He can volley if he wants, he can grind it out if he wants, and he can still hit winners off both sides when he wants.
@tvp900 i agree with you there, old post i know, but if that is the guess i think that might actually be a problem roddick needs to fix, being he has too many options so he gets lazy, especially with the grinding it out part. He does still need that bone crushing power, whether he wants it or not, and he's shown he's still had it back in miami, this year though has been just a bunch o bad luck after a wonderful first 4 months.
Its hard to believe a certain frenchmen and a 7ft tall american actually beat this match in time, basically trippling the score and doubling the time! hahaha This is still one of my favorite matches but now it kinda just pales to 70-68...
Cliff Drysdale can say some stupid shit sometimes, but hes the best commentator for tennis he never talked down about any player even if they are losing badly now Mary Carillo(pause) she needs to shut the fuck up-this bitch will talk in the middle of a game and say some off the wall shit about a player that has nothing to do with the match-How the hell did she get that job.

There are intersting statistics. WINNERS: 15, 15 ERRORS: 1,3!
Today 15-15 is good. Oh. Old, good tennis...

This was a spectacular match. Too bad I had to leave it midway through to go to school when it was happening.

Second best match I've ever seen behind Safin-Federer in 2005 at the Australian Open
