  • Ugh I always hated the open cab.It must have sucked driving that when it snowed or rained.I remember when I was a kid in North Bergen,NJ they had 3 fire trucks,Macks and they were an open cab.My uncle would say ,the driver hated it but he and the guys who held on to the back bar despised it There hands would slip because of the rain or snow and almost fall off.

  • @wannabenj Why would the guys on the back care if the cab was covered or not?

  • @papabugs71 re read

  • @wannabenj Trust me, I did. Your sentence structure has thrown me for a loop. Define the pronoun "it" in the following sentence from your original comment:

"My uncle would say ,the driver hated it but he and the guys who held on to the back bar despised it"

What is "it" describing? An open cab or the fact that they were riding outside?

Just trying to understand what you're talking about.

  • @papabugs71 um apparently you didn't,because I had several people who read it and they all understood that "it" meant open cab. Thanks for trying to enlighten me as to your prowess pertaining to the english language. Not sure why you felt compelled to bring me to task about something you don't understand. It is pretty clear, that what I had wrote pertained to an open cab.By the way the people who read what I wrote was an English major and 2 other college graduates.

  • That is an interesting engine. Any idea what department it served at? I had also never heard of the v12 gas engine it has. Very unusual engine. Thanks for posting this video.

  • @belzebubx

Yeah GM made this engine back in the 60's... Great engines...Lot of torque...

  • It's a diesel V12?

  • @JuliusLeddy no, its a gas engine

  • Great parade truck! Love the 702.

  • Truly one of the most forgotten if ever known muscle motors of it's time. Transition periods had some interesting hardware; try a 67 3/4 T with a 401 magnum. These things were giant killers in their day but remember the giants weren't so big back then. They all did the job they were built to do. Quality wasn't a thought or concept, it was the standard.

  • Must not have any water in it to start and stop that quick. Looks a lot like the truck in the dept I was in, but it had a V6, a full cab, and Armstrong power steering. No way it could maneuver like that!

  • sound likes Mercedes Benz v10 om403 engine

  • thats cuz its got crappy exhuast the chevy v12s have a uniqe sound and way more power than any other v10 or v12

  • I love that roar of the engine fan, awesome!!

  • Do I see a Q behind the grille? STAY SAFE!

  • That sounds awesome ... the v12 and transmission whine!

  • What kind of an interesting backup bell is that?

  • just a large bell hoseclamped to the rear axle

  • can u show us the set up?

  • whats the year of this baby?

  • wow.. that sounds quite a bit like a Detroit 6 cylinder 2 stroke engine.

    great sound and great truck!

  • dont sound any thing like it

  • sweet truck how many gallons to the mile do you get?

  • 1MPG 3MPG at best without a load just cruseing

  • that thing fukin HAULS!!

  • Does the pump still operate? Looks like a solid old truck, I know alot of volunteer FD's around here that would kill for it.

  • Bravo!

  • I'll take driving this over driving a Mustang Cobra convertible ANY day!!!!

  • just a curious question how many miles to the gallon do u get or how many gallons to the mile? ive herd there pretty bad with gas milage

  • Well of course, it's a 40 year old, 702 cubic inch (roughly around 11 liters), carburetted and gas fueled machine. MPG be damned!

  • Hats off to you. Amazing truck

  • East Lansdowne, PA Fire Co. once had a truck very similar to this but had the closed cab with bench seat extension. It, too, had the 702 V-12 and I was told it could move in and out of traffic like a Trans-Am. VERY NICE!!! Good luck to you with it.

  • Always liked these trucks

Nice to see/hear one with the V12!!!

  • Thanks for posting this

Nice to see a truck for way back when...and with the V12!!!
