Minor correction: Christianity is not a monotheistic religion. It is henotheistic; monolatrist in principle, but polythesitic in practice. And I'm not talking about the Trinity. I am talking about minor dieties like Satan or the angels or saints or demons. Kinda strange that it is championed as being well-defined and inherently superior/legitimate for being something it is not.

I think we took Pagan holidays as a compromise when Constantine united the new Christian religion (which had been running for their lives for 400 years) with his Pagan subjects. Favored holidays were kept intact to prevent rioting of pagans, and simply given a different slant for the new Church. I'm sure Church fathers -still men of integrity at that time- weren't happy but it was a way to keep peace in a new empire Constantine hoped would be as stable as Rome.

There is no evidence to support the claim of a goddess or goddesses. Does the religion have good morals? Possibly. Does it cause any harm? Maybe not. But do I need an unsupported hocus pocus religion to be a good person? No...therefore I see no reason to accept it.

@alexcowart It's an ethical maxim not a law carved in stone. It represents an intention and a journey. Once you start taking religion as black and white and taking everything literally the road to extremism is downhill all the way. Why don't you try to think less in absolutes? Is that you're ethical compass isn't that well developed do you need everything laid out in laws for you ? Keep thinking you will probably build up some inteligence over time.

I want to ask people who are wiccians, what about the moon landing of the year 1969? Is your religion against landing on the moon, mining the moon, using the moon to create solar power satellites, or making other uses of the moon.
@JasonDamisch Don't think the moon landing is nessesarily a problem, we go to places like Mt Olympus and I don't think that is a desicration as long as you respect the environment. I'd love to go to the moon. As for Mining it I would take a similar view to mining the earth if it needs to be done it would be lovely if it could be done with sensetivity. But with the caveat that it would be erong for me to expect to change other views based only on religion. We do live in teh real world after all.
You can eat what you want. The truth is that vegetables have more energy than meat. And before going into a ritual it is a good idea to fast for a while and eat like you normally would after ritual. This brings more energy to the work if you have done your homework then you know what I am talking about.

@danc909 I think the distinction TaBest is making is "Wicca" called as such didn't actually start until Gardner in the 1950s, and is correct in this respect.
Paganism, called as such, is before Wicca and Christianity so you are correct in that respect. But pagans also practiced things which did not include "an harm none", like drinking blood out of the skulls of adversaries, so the two aren't technically the same.

well there is some doubt where Gardner got his info , I have read about him and others surrounding the invention of this. I don't think that these people were really close to nature , there is nothing that I see or feel in their writings that they had a truly spiritual expereince with mother earth. As a native we are taught to really honour all life and work with it. What I see in Wicca is an importance on sexuality and witchcraft ,witchcraft is attempting to force the hand of the Creator

Minor correction: Christianity is not a monotheistic religion. It is henotheistic; monolatrist in principle, but polythesitic in practice. And I'm not talking about the Trinity. I am talking about minor dieties like Satan or the angels or saints or demons. Kinda strange that it is championed as being well-defined and inherently superior/legitimate for being something it is not.

the holidays were "stolen" by christians from PAGANS a long long time ago. Wicca has only been around since it was invented in the middle of THIS century. The rest, the history of "your" religion, I mean, is all conjecture, the majority of "wiccan" history was invented by man-hating hairy legged feminists in the 60's. Eventually all religions will cease to exist simply because we have become smarter and shouldn't put up with the nonsense of 10000 year old books dating back to times when these same people believed the earth was flat. These concepts are old and although the ideas behind some of the may be meaningful, it's best to start believing things you know are true instead of things your don't. Putting your faith in one may lead to success, but ultimately will end in destruction. Just ask the Romans.

I think we took Pagan holidays as a compromise when Constantine united the new Christian religion (which had been running for their lives for 400 years) with his Pagan subjects. Favored holidays were kept intact to prevent rioting of pagans, and simply given a different slant for the new Church. I'm sure Church fathers -still men of integrity at that time- weren't happy but it was a way to keep peace in a new empire Constantine hoped would be as stable as Rome.

There is no evidence to support the claim of a goddess or goddesses. Does the religion have good morals? Possibly. Does it cause any harm? Maybe not. But do I need an unsupported hocus pocus religion to be a good person? No...therefore I see no reason to accept it.

There have been studies into the pschological value of various religious experiences but to the practitioner not all that relevant. Once you start taking religion as black and white and taking everything literally the road to extremism is downhill all the way. Why don't you try to think less in absolutes? Is that you're ethical compass isn't that well developed do you need everything laid out in laws for you ? Keep thinking you will probably build up some inteligence over time.

@JasonDamisch Don't think the moon landing is nessesarily a problem, we go to places like Mt Olympus and I don't think that is a desicration as long as you respect the environment. I'd love to go to the moon. As for Mining it I would take a similar view to mining the earth if it needs to be done it would be lovely if it could be done with sensetivity. But with the caveat that it would be erong for me to expect to change other views based only on religion. We do live in teh real world after all.

@danc909 I think the distinction TaBest is making is "Wicca" called as such didn't actually start until Gardner in the 1950s, and is correct in this respect.
Paganism, called as such, is before Wicca and Christianity so you are correct in that respect. But pagans also practiced things which did not include "an harm none", like drinking blood out of the skulls of adversaries, so the two aren't technically the same.

there are many gods but only one god that died on the cross for you and rose to life in three days, thats the only true and living god, all other gods are false gods and will perish along with those who worship them

@olmosdrums It would be phantastic, if it were just like you say, but life is indeed more complex: it can happen that I want to drink my cup of tea (and don't want to drop it!), but (for several possible reasons) tea drops out on my t-shirt and causes a stain I would have never had! ;)

kyboy13..no im not lying, think what you like but eventualy you'll realise that im right. Intiatory..mystery..tradition just think about it..its great that ppl like Krissie are trying to dispell peoples negativity..but this mis information is all over you tube and its quite annoying. But its a very easy mistake to make and I guess a subtle difference to understand. I also recommend reading Triumph of the Moon by Ronald Hutton. There's some guy twisting tree on wicca on here..see that.

You know, you could say that you're working on believing those things, that you like those ideas. Then you could still support the Wiccan way and you yourself wouldn't look like some kind of fool!

There's no doubt where Gerald Gardner got his ideas, yes he founded or invented the traddition of Wicca. There's nothing stopping anyone being into nature though.
but your not Wiccan...if native people dont agree with Wicca or Neo pagansim fair enough. But yes all Wiccans are witches-but not all witches are Wiccans. Wicca is oath bound, so its likely only so much information was released to the public.

well there is some doubt where Gardner got his info , I have read about him and others surrounding the invention of this. I don't think that these people were really close to nature , there is nothing that I see or feel in their writings that they had a truly spiritual expereince with mother earth. As a native we are taught to really honour all life and work with it. What I see in Wicca is an importance on sexuality and witchcraft ,witchcraft is attempting to force the hand of the Creator

Wicca is an intiatory, mystery, tradition in its practice-as in spiritual truths are passed on person to person when they are ready recieve that knowledge. The tradition goes back to Gardner. Initation is a crucial part of it. If you interested in Wicca, read Wiccan authors such as Gardner, Alex & Maxine Sanders,Doreen Valiente, Janet and Stewert Farrer, Vivanne Crowley, Fred Lamond, Sorita Este & David Rankine, Then find a coven to initate you.
