  • My Dalmation does this everyone i know is like omg hes snarling and im like nup hes just smiling i love dalmations <3

  • I had two dalmatians, and I was curious why they smile. I came to conclusion, that it happens when they are excited. Sometimes it involves happiness, but sometimes a feeling of guilt and insecurity. Look at Denver the guilty dog, if you dont believe me: watch?v=B8ISzf2pryI :)

  • How does one teach a dog to smile?

  • I've heard a smiling dalmatian is a sign that you penetrate it too much...

  • This is so freakin' funny man!

Do you have any other good jokes like that?

  • Elle fait un peu peur la louloute quand elle sourit :)

  • het is goed te weten dat dat geen bedreiging is soms. Alleen hoe onderscheid je het met wel een bedreiging.. Ik werk bij de dierenambulance.

It's good to know it's not a threat. But when do you know it's not... I work at a Animal Ambulance

  • Heehee, I had a client once whose australian shepherd would smile...scared the wits out of me the first time I saw it because I approached their car to load something into it and was greeted by a big set of teeth! She was such a love. :)

  • My wiener dog does the same kind of "smile" when she's very happy to see us. It's very weird but not aggressive at all.

  • that is not smiling its a bat face most dog make when angry

  • Dalmatians are actually known for their 'Smarl' which is actually a sign of happyness. You can useually tell by the overall happy posture, leck of growling, and the strange 'mrl' noise they can make while doing this. Their one of the few dogs that 'smile'!

  • while I'm sure that's true... there are many breeds that do smile ... it's just so darn cute on a dalmation

  • that is so weird and i did not enjoy that wow

  • I wouldn't say she's smiling, rather a quite nasty face...but it's cute though!

  • LOL awesome! How do you train a pooch to do that? I wish my dogs would smile!

  • Only dalmatians smile.

  • No, many dogs smile. My rat terrier smiles.

  • STARFYRE87:

It is not taught. An individual dog either does it or doesn't--it doesn't even get passed from parent to pup, nor is necessarily present in all dogs raised in the same environment even if they have similar temperaments.

It is said to be most common among dalmatians, but is occasionally seen in a few other breeds as well. In any case, growling does not accompany it.

  • you gave her peanut butter again didnt you? lol kidding my dog is a treeing walker hound and she smiles when you pet her its so cute

  • I use to have two dalmatians and they smiled like that too..it was cute..

  • cutte!

  • lol smiling dogs are awsome! they must really like thier owner!

  • My Dal "smarls" at me when I get home, along with swinging her tail so hard I'm afraid her spotless butt will fall off.

  • What is it about Dalmations and smiling? I have seen this alot when I have worked with this breed and they are usually female. Scary looking, but they're always really sweet.

  • lolz when my dog smiles without showing her teeth ( like this --> :) ) it means she wants to vomit ... eww xD

  • Mum's labrador puppy does this. It's so adorable, scary and hilarious all at once.

  • I have owned Dalmatians for six years now and a couple of mine smile. It looks scary but it is the sign of utmost respect, submission, and love. What a lucky owner!

  • @Jemsters1 my dog does it all the time!

  • looks scary and cute
