The problem isn't just taxes... we need to work together as workers and make business more transparent. We need to form Unions so that we can work together within industries to close this enormous gap between social classes. A "National Infrastructure Bank" is not a Hamiltonian Credit System. Rather, the proposed bank subsidizes "powerful interests who have dominated Washington for far too long" and keeps these folks and their bankrupt, securities-based arrangement in the loop determining the economic policy of the nation. Unacceptable. Being an American, and not an Italian Fascist of old (which is where the blueprint for the NIB originates), one is not fooled by slick talk promoting otherwise desirable investment.

The percentage of Government debt to GNP has remained roughly (very roughly) constant through that period. You're right that we should pay down the debt, but you need the income first. That sort you mention rarely satisfies anyone.
Ultimately, we will have to pay down the debt with higher taxes and wean ourselves from the military nipple.

Military spending has become so integral to the U.S. economy that it's hard to see HOW we could get that monkey off our backs, but the same is true of oil and it's an imperative that we remove that particular clinging simian.
It can be done - and I agree in advance that corporate funded politicians are unlikely to do it.

It's very debatable what the stimulus did to the US economy, to be quite understated about it. Both men are sell-outs taking care of their own interests and the corporate interests of the administration.
Every government does 'off-the-books' spending that is rarely examined. The whole CIA drug trade is 'off-the-books' for example, even though it has gone on for decades (similar things in other countries). Afghanistan Opium Crop is a good search term, too - of course US-led.

Blue Cross has a total monopoly and prices will go up to about $50,000 a year for a family plan but they were jacking it anyways,each year.
We needed a Public option to break the Blue Cross monopoly.
