That shows in Stickshifts and Safetybelts. It also shows in their cover songs, a bit in I Will Survive which they've almost turned into an easy listening alternative, but also in Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps. For both the truth is they've taken a previously percieved female worry and turned it into the soft values of todays men.

While it shows in their songs that the members of Cake loves music, they still play and experiment with the music and gives it an edge that distances their music from the original genres, by adding sounds andmixing different genres.

Cake - Fashion Nuggets. Good album.

I never knew the problems surrounding The Distance, so thanks for informing me with this video. I still very much like the song and wont change my mind. While agree that both Nugget and especially Italian Leather Sofa are very good songs, my favourite must be Stickshifts and Safetybelts. Even tho it's greatly inspired by country music, like all the other songs on the album Fashion Nuggets, it has an ironic or sarcastic distance to the music it portrays.

You've hit on a major throwback to my middle school days with this discography review dude. I'm very interested in what you'll have to say in your Prolonging The Magic review (their best by a long shot, imho). I used to listen to their records all the time and went to see them after they came out with Comfort Eagle, it was one of my first concerts. It's cool to see someone giving them a positive critique, as they're one of the most critically despised bands ever (which is lame, but, whatevs.)
