Are you guys going to do a vid talking about all the silly unlockables like the sexy beam suit thing and the UFO and dog endings? I'd like to see something like that.
the movie is going to be cool for ignorants bout the true silent hill,and for the fans is going to be a whole lot of "whats that shit that dosnt make sense" "who the heck is that person and what the heck is he/she talking bout" "what hapent to *** " "what did they d to *** !?" and many other things like that
silent hill is a spiritual awakening journey to test the flame of love that sparks in you as you SEE and FEEL how much the darkness tries its very best to dim you out like a candle once "you" the person, accepted what you "dont need" (fear, hate, knowledge, dependence, lust, pride etc etc). love is whats been driving you (all you need).
play SH1 on 2CI or cannabis...or both...THE BEST!!! and FEEL what i mean.
@Emblemz Not entirely true. I don't mean to argue, but every silent hill has uncannon alternate endings depicted based on how you play the game. There is no definite answer if silent hill is a rehabilitation awakening town, or if it calls out to its victims to splatter their psychological trauma over the asphalt. In one ending James got out, in another James didn't. Harry dies because of silent hill, so said in the first one. How is death a realization? And don't give me that U.F.O crap ...
Just wanted to say, THANKS FOR MAKING THIS! I'm one of the biggest SH fans out there, and I feel you were spot on about the newer games in the series. I don't see how you didn't like Joe Romersa, but then again, that's a music opinion. Love how you backed up everything with facts, and presented your videos so that they were interesting AND informative. As a fan, I'm not excited about the direction the series is going at all. I think the series should have died out long ago, after the 4th.
@harrymasononvacation The overwhelming majority of the fans feel the exact same way. Doubt me? Look at the sales for Homecoming, Origins, and Shattered Memories. I am pretty sure Konami is losing money on Silent Hill right now.
@samael1981 If they didn't with the past three games, I think they will start to now unless Downpour is something amazing (it won't be). The HD Collection will have it's fair share of buyers, me included, but I really don't see Book of Memories selling at all. Seeing Book of Memories is just pathetic...Konami should cancel that mistake before it even happens. Downpour isn't looking so bright either...just watch the video on my series to see what all I think :/
@harrymasononvacation I'll check it out right now actually. Just talked to Tomm Hulett and he did give me some reassuring information. He clarified some statements he and Devin made. I told him I'd rent Downpour and if I felt it fit the cannon of Silent Hill then I'd buy it and if I didn't then I wouldn't buy it. He said that was fair. It remains to be seen how downpour plays out.
@samael1981 I'm going to remain hopeful. Homecoming was at least a decent game itself. Shattered Memories was a great, unique idea, and a good game. Origins is one of my favorites (third favorite, probably). Sadly, the movie is what I'm looking forward to the most. A lot of fans hated the movie, but I enjoyed it, and I felt it more than delivered a good film adaption to Silent Hill (in overall feel, not story, and why woud htey keep the same exact story?).
Secondly, what I meant here, was that, even if I can admire what its actually raping, technically adapting a VG by enough of a summery with film maker input that is true with the story's intent, they cannot redeem how they presented it in the first. The new audience will only see the first film's representation of SH3's events.
It retains the first's superficial ignorant alterations that do nothing and that IS enough. Because I don't like DBE, i'll only rent it. Nuff said.
@silenceofthehills I expected DBE to be crap but I didn't bag it before it came out. What I'm saying is at least give the movie a chance to do something. Like I said Basset seems to be trying his best to keep true to the series canon while having to forcefuly stick to the craptastic crap that Avery wrote for the first film. Personally I'd like a re-make by Zack Snyder because that guy actually sticks true to the source material.
Despite what I type, I'm not jumping to conclusion. Though, in the end, I know the religious radicals and everything from the first is present.
Thus, I can't agree with you more on feeling sorry for Basset. If he had a fresh page, he could really get into understanding what to do. If a real Silent Hill film were made, it could be like the fan film "No Escape" or the art for SH2 with the floating cubes. Just so much more weird metaphoration is possible.
In the end, I fear metaphoration being present in SH:R, as it will be no different from the fans making their own for the first. It will not be presented in such a way that it is in original art peices from the get go. Thus, it will be nothing to new people.
I could be angry for it trying anywho. Its wrong as the story can't have proper understanding. E.G. Origins didn't change that Logan never grows to know Sabertooth before being killed off. It takes us to know the comic.
@silenceofthehills 'No Escape?' Never heard of it. I'm still hoping that SH:R will at least be a decent movie in it's own right. Something the first film wasn't even capable of being
Okay for starters I'm not saying to follow a game to a T so when I mention the puzzles I'm pointing out why it would be hard to make to a film. Considering the fact that MOST FANS WANT THE GAME. Again I say Basset is staying true to the story of the third game. The characters are all the same everything is sounding like the game on which the film is based, while Basset throws in some new stuff to keep it fresh not a clone.
"Okay for starters I'm not saying to follow a game to a T so when I mention the puzzles I'm pointing out why it would be hard to make to a film."
If no ones focussed on that bull, then why is it so hard? Its want and human emotion, not a scientific anything on why its hard.
Secondly, I wanted the character and genre of horror, not only bits of events coming from the game, so that is an experience, not just a fuggin monster/purgatory film to newbs!
At best, the movie can only take events so closely as a wink to fans. Yes, in the end, I would like SH:R. I would even WANT to love it for being another MK/Sin City/Clue, however, its been raped in character and story intent. Thus, I can only admire it from a distance. It needs rebooting, no more.
Silent Hill is Resident Evil for the psychological horror genre. Just as RE butchered the standard horror genre with wire fu, they typicalized SH's narrative into standard horror.
Even in the day, its hit and miss and not about accuracy to source at all. You simplify it anyhow, doing things in gameplay that are found in any other game. Once simplified, that movie's story then just feels like any other 8/16-bit vg scenario anyhow, so its not complexity making it "boring" or too much something else. Any of those games and their scenarios could have never been based upon a movie also, so think about that. Just another game of the respectful genre.
When it comes to a film to game, same applies. VGs today are so advanced that all your doing is taking a movie and making it into a game scenario. The reality is that the film is a shorter 2 hours and need more meat and interactivity. Its not accuracy of source, but hit in miss within core gameplay. Make it good, and its fun and grand.
@silenceofthehills Not really, especially considering the fact that many a game is focusing on having no cutscenes. Maybe in games like Metal Gear Solid where you watch as much as play but games have never been taking a movie and putting it into a game scenario. There's a lot more to it then that. A 2 hour film would still need an extra addition of story because the average length of a game. Look at Spider-Man 3 The Game. Much more story in that then it's 2 1/2 hour counterpart.
Never said they need cut scenes. The same applies with the whole summery thing, only these are more simple and therefore, more that can be done with it. This is due to being as simple as a green lit treatment, with final designs also a go. Its up to the script to make or break it.
Secondly, that's about what I meant with the Spider Man bit, only better. After that, some games are short and enjoyable to play over and over again, like Shadow of the Colossus or Splinter Cell.
If you think VGs are hard to convert to films, then you aren't looking at it correctly. You only look at the plot summery and cut scenes to the most of any letter, and then update the presenting of it, as if making a simple play into a film, or 50's horror film into an 80's (Blob). If VGs are SOOO hard to convert story wise, then they'd be pissing themselves when making those little novels. Its all about being humble. AND NO THEY ARE NOT! That's why its all fan service!
@silenceofthehills I didn't say they were hard to convert storywise, they are HARD TO CONVERT MOVIE WISE. The differences between an interactive medium and a passive medium are huge. All you can do with a game to film is take the storyline and follow the development of the characters that've already been put forward. The rest is a blank because there is no way you can make a whole movie based on one sole character walking around. All you can do is take the STORY.
If you say they are hard to convert storywise, YOU DO say movie wise as well. Movies are NOT that special or different to a book. Its just another format of medium that doesn't have to have huge invisible non-existing differences in what to expect. And then here we go with the mindframe of having films as nothing but popcorn fests of a rollercoaster ride, just for pure stupid excitment!
@silenceofthehills I never said they were hard to convert storywise, they are only hard movie wise considering the fact that the average game (around 8 hours) would have to be broken down into a 2 hour experience. There is no possible way to keep completely true to a game like Final Fantasy 7 because a movie has a much shorter time frame, not unless you make sequels to keep everything together. And I have no mindframe of films being nothing but popcorn fests. I don't even know where you got
Well, the reason why I said this, was because if you look at a novel, the length would be great. Its not THAT hard to slim a source. Thus, I would not even know where you were going at that point.
What you said for Final Fantasy 7 is very much the showing of culture quick mindedly thinks. Again, summery of source. If you think poking out the important plot elements means...not true...then I think your only trying to defend film maker's poor selfish descisions.
@silenceofthehills that idea but I am not a big fan of stupid popcorn movie blockbusters. I never once mentioned a movie has to be dumb or even implied that. I really think you're just pulling stuff out of your ass now. Considering the fact that a director like David Lynch happens to be my favorite film-maker should really give some insight to the fact that I prefer psychological mindbenders over another Michael Bay piece of crock.
No, its not what he's doing. He could have, but its like the X-men film and its lack of story trying to be updated while it goes along. Clearly these films lack the backstories to make them interesting and about character development, so they make Origins or First Class, rather a reboot to present it correctly, without needing to lead back into the depressing trilogy of X-men films that murdered Sabertooth and DeathStrike without mentioning relations. But that's another story.
@silenceofthehills What are you trying to talk about. The X-Men trilogy was actually a set of good movies. Last Stand was when it started sucking. Origins was a mindless action flick and First Class looks to be the same. The first three X-Men films had much more development, sub-text and story than the new ones. And yes Basset is following the story of the third game, I know this because I've been researching about the game and reading his blogs. The man is sticking true to the source material.
You have to realize how loose fans of the series are, as all they want for newbs and themselves, are the core summery to be intact and to have this presented correctly (since its actually presentation that makes or breaks it). In retrospect, film makers don't understand the fan's disgust with the film and even go into naming fanboys!
In order for the mainstream audiences to get it, it needs to be like a comic film, and not this Uwe Boll "sequel that only we understad" crap!
You of all people prove how immature video game movie makers are, as you're too the letter of GAME OBSTACLES. You said, a 2 hour film solving puzzles? However, if you mean occasionally talking to people as in atmosphere and isolation, then no. Its been done before in other "boring" films (Evil Dead, ect. ect. ect.).
What they did in the first film and this would be fine on that level, but this isn't what any fan means. They meant character and core story elements.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new electronic album “Sub-Zero” which is heavily influenced by the world of Silent Hill and the music of Akira Yamaoka. If you're interested you can listen to the full album on my youtube channel, as well as download the album for free!
It is depressing that all gamers are seeing the games they loved in series ending....or being RUINED lol Resident Evil is taking it to far, silent hill is gone, and pokemon now look kinda scary and devil may cry is dead now too :( Poor gamers.
Well, DownPour could be good. The only thing it can do wrong is print every monster as to just being a person. Hopefully its rare, as its not the basis of the monsters. This would be like Shattered Memories in overusing the running sequence, growing tired and old.
Even if SH2 had smaller references, there can be at least be one where the visiter knows nothing, yet the town is still affecting him/her. I think they should diversify by focussing on darker strangers.
And that's what you get for adding everything together for fanservice as well. Rose already had a Vincent style death in the first, so how are they going to pull this off? I mean, there are statues of men on wooden steakes to be be burned. What they said is hanging me, that he or they captured the mood and mythos of the religious organization, when they didn't even by a slim percent...
VG movies have gone too far already, but this takes the cake in wrongfull and illogical acceptance.
@silenceofthehills Considering the fact that Rose didn't die I don't really see how she had a Vincent style death. You mean when she was stabbed by Christabella? Guess what she didn't die. Actually the game to film that takes the cake in wrongful and illogical acceptance would have to be the last three Resident Evil films. Considering the fact that they butchered series canon, characters and mythos. But I am done discussing this. Keep your mind where it is if you want, but I'm wasting time here.
What I typed wasn't to be taken literally. I own the DVD and know she didn't die, but then, the twist ending kinda makes a notion to say maybe she is by being in the purgatory world.
In terms of RE, they kinda raped the series with the first as well, considering they added some pretty silly Matrix cheese in it. It wasn't much, but still, its out of character. RE was more enclosed, like Evil Dead in a mansion, and more surreal. RE and SH aren't that far off in rape.
@silenceofthehills I can't agree with you anymore on how badly Anderson turned the RE series into a kung-fu funhouse. It's hard to feel any tension when Alice is capable of kicking the holy hell out of everyone she looks at. I always felt the ending was a cheesy play on the VG ending when Harry was actually dying and it was all a dream. I highly doubt Gans or Avery even know there are any other endings.
Yeah, I whole heartedly agree with that. You know the original ending was another P head cameo, with many killing the members of the cult. Its just a showing of how far away Gans was, as his take was just the uverused blend of religious themes.
By the looks of it, the film is likely making Phead its valtiel with the weird devise he's nearby in the shot. Even if he knows anything about SH, this movie still feels to give ode to an old missconseption about Valtiel being Phead.
@silenceofthehills Well for the longest time I was one of those fans that thought the same thing about PH and the big V man being one and the same. Then I watched this.
I think they already screwed up Vincent and the entire film as a movie. I really do feel that, aside certain moments, its will rehash the original. In the shots of Heather, we see her stunned, as alot of people were in shots of the previous. I look at Vincent mockingly aside Heather and I just know he's going to wind up another Cyble Bennet, since he dies in the original. He's just going to be the lackey tailing her every move, then dies. Where's Doug BTW?
See the new Silent Hill Revelations screens? Oh god, its just awful how typical a horror film it looks. None of that was clown crap was in the original, it was subtle. Just add death metal and other bull why don't ya. The ruining of SH's character has gone even farther.
I'm tired of these typical horror punks going into it thinking they wouldn't like the actual game technically adapted, saying that this purgatory bull is fine.
True, but then I totally disagree. The look Gans established was of the hospital's otherworld, in which there were metal walls and what not. In the school, as you already know, the otherworld more feels like a gothic nightmare of burnt chared wood, like a burnt house. It kinda screams something you'd see from one of those Tim Burton illustrated looking scary story compilations. Whereas there were varients of the burning theme in the original, Gans only replicated one.
I really didn't think he captured the real look of the otherworld in total anyhow. Its close, but its too overblown and dirty for its own good, as well as too wet. The original's was more subtle and solid. Compare CG's from the playnovel to the movie.
Its mostly the storyline narrative format. It reveals everyting from before the credits with showing Alessa, and then Rose running at her husband.
Actually, I never saw one floor grating in the movie. The only time I saw any was when they had the overhead view of Rose running through the world. This is another POWERFUL reason it DOES NOT capture the original's feel. There is no pitch black, there's a massive fire at the bottom of the gratting, lighting everything and pinning it as if the burning theme is the only possible in SH.
I doubt they know the full extent of Silent hill, enough to know their error.
@silenceofthehills I am not trying to be a troll, but if you were a true silent hill fan, you would realize the monsters and adversities faced in the otherworld are reflected manifestations of the most tramuatised characters mind. Therefore - if he is afraid of clowns, there will be clowns. Pyramid head wasn't in the original bitch, the first on wasn't a great impact on the genre. Silent hill had only begun to make its name and expand with number two.
I know that is stupid question but have you all read Silent Hill Koshiki Guidebook Kanzenban (translated by wallofdeath) and included the answers for SH1 in TRSHE?
If you think about it, there is no Silent Hill 5, only spin offs.... Now, there was a teaser for shV...

But that's another story.
silenceofthehills 8 months ago

I think they should diversify by focussing on darker strangers.
silenceofthehills 10 months ago
And that's what you get for adding everything together for fanservice as well. Rose already had a Vincent style death in the first, so how are they going to pull this off? I mean, there are statues of men on wooden steakes to be be burned. What they said is hanging me, that he or they captured the mood and mythos of the religious organization, when they didn't even by a slim percent...
VG movies have gone too far already, but this takes the cake in wrongfull and illogical acceptance.
silenceofthehills 10 months ago
@silenceofthehills Considering the fact that Rose didn't die I don't really see how she had a Vincent style death. You mean when she was stabbed by Christabella? Guess what she didn't die. Actually the game to film that takes the cake in wrongful and illogical acceptance would have to be the last three Resident Evil films. Considering the fact that they butchered series canon, characters and mythos. But I am done discussing this. Keep your mind where it is if you want, but I'm wasting time here.

@DMCMaster550
RE and SH aren't that far off in rape.
silenceofthehills 8 months ago
@silenceofthehills I can't agree with you anymore on how badly Anderson turned the RE series into a kung-fu funhouse. It's hard to feel any tension when Alice is capable of kicking the holy hell out of everyone she looks at. I always felt the ending was a cheesy play on the VG ending when Harry was actually dying and it was all a dream. I highly doubt Gans or Avery even know there are any other endings.
DMCMaster550 8 months ago
@DMCMaster550

DMCMaster550 8 months ago
I think they already screwed up Vincent and the entire film as a movie. I really do feel that, aside certain moments, its will rehash the original. In the shots of Heather, we see her stunned, as alot of people were in shots of the previous. I look at Vincent mockingly aside Heather and I just know he's going to wind up another Cyble Bennet, since he dies in the original. He's just going to be the lackey tailing her every move, then dies. Where's Doug BTW?
People, don't support this widely.
silenceofthehills 10 months ago
See the new Silent Hill Revelations screens? Oh god, its just awful how typical a horror film it looks. None of that was clown crap was in the original, it was subtle. Just add death metal and other bull why don't ya. The ruining of SH's character has gone even farther.
I'm tired of these typical horror punks going into it thinking they wouldn't like the actual game technically adapted, saying that this purgatory bull is fine.

@silenceofthehills
Silent Hill's nightmare is just reality on fire. Very... creative? Gans at least reproduced Silent Hill's look, if nothing else.
TwinPerfectChannel 10 months ago 8
@TwinPerfectChannel
Whereas there were varients of the burning theme in the original, Gans only replicated one.
silenceofthehills 10 months ago
@TwinPerfectChannel
I really didn't think he captured the real look of the otherworld in total anyhow. Its close, but its too overblown and dirty for its own good, as well as too wet. The original's was more subtle and solid. Compare CG's from the playnovel to the movie.
Its mostly the storyline narrative format. It reveals everyting from before the credits with showing Alessa, and then Rose running at her husband.
silenceofthehills 10 months ago
@TwinPerfectChannel
I doubt they know the full extent of Silent hill, enough to know their error.
silenceofthehills 10 months ago
@silenceofthehills I am not trying to be a troll, but if you were a true silent hill fan, you would realize the monsters and adversities faced in the otherworld are reflected manifestations of the most tramuatised characters mind. Therefore - if he is afraid of clowns, there will be clowns. Pyramid head wasn't in the original bitch, the first on wasn't a great impact on the genre. Silent hill had only begun to make its name and expand with number two.
