Why did 4Kids even decide to show this thing if they are going to sensor almost half of it. Didnt they bother talking to the artists and asked them about the one piece fanbase, and the fact that its not really for kids.

@LindoKorchi in my opinion, I think the problem is that 4Kids went overboard with the editing. From removing anything that remotely resembles blood to changing guns into super soakers, those things ruin key points in the manga, like Luffy being able to hit Crocodile only because he was covered in his own blood. I say that censoring totally ruin the image that Oda was trying to create, and kids don't deserve to grow up watching stuff like that.
Okay if you have to make any type of edit to an anime being shown, then dont show it. Most animes like one piece, naruto, and dbz are meant for teenagers and older. Show them an anime that you dont have to do anything

Buddy the copyright holders of one piece in America switched over to the japanese dub. Also from a business perspective they failed to get this anime successful oversees because it was a miserable dub that wasnt an accurate portrayal of the franchise. They went for such realism, all the characters have accents fitting the time period perfectly, and not only that, since the show is based on American history, all the jokes translate extremely well. In reality though, One Piece the SHOW is very good for kids. The constant theme in the show is to help others, have a strong bond with your friends, and don't judge a book by its cover. Everybody thinks that Luffy and his gang are the bad guys because the term "Pirate" has a bad rap in the seas. But in the end, they're the good guys. I would agree with 4kids if they removed SOME blood, but they did WAY more than that. Not only that, but they scrapped off some very important episodes.

If i remember correctly luffy defeats crocodile in these ways: covered in blood(normal), covered in water(4kids) -_-
Actually one or two of these edits may have just been some errors with videos 4kids was given. Like the scene where Ace disappeared or the mirrored Sanji scene.
I actually read that 4kids got the rights to One Piece as a bit of a bundle package with some other anime. They didn't really want it in the first place, but Toei Animation gave it to them anyway. One of the heads of 4kids said that the whole fiasco ruined what little good reputation the company had with anime fans.
Whilst some of the edits were unneccesary and to be hoenst when I watched this show when it first came on, I actually liked it and was the reason I am still interested in watching one piece (Funimation version).
But this is the one thing I don't understand, but I truly think people need to get a life when they claim that one piece 4Kids dub suck because they took out Sanji's cigerette like -_-, like gee.. it's not that serious.

I'm so glad I never originally saw one piece on 4kids, that was fucking atrocious. What really gets me is the horribly drawn edits (examples: Luffy's mouth being shut, the cookie which replaces the onigiri, and Navy). Ughhh fuck 4kids all the way to hell.

Looking back, when I was younger, I watched the version with Sanji eating a lollipop and at that time it wasn't a big deal. Which is why I think 4kids even bothers, they know that the majority of people watching their version are retarded preteens who'll forget the show even exists after the episode is over. They know the *real* fans are going to find the good version on their own and are gonna be willing to fund the franchise in their own way. 4kids and fox are just looking for a temp audience

The edits were really stupid and poorly done erasing signs, anything with the japanese language,the riceballs and editing out entire characters etc.
but some of the edits make sense like sanji's cigar and the gun pointing at the little kid
they didnt want to scare the little kids or get sued,IF they actually did a good job at the editing it wouldnt be that bad.

The only good dub 4Kids ever did was Pokemon. Wanna know why? Cuz Pokemon was a show designed FOR a children audience. One Piece is violent and not appropriate for children. Don't try to make it appropriate for children. If you think this is bad, just look at what they did to Dragon Ball Z. The didn't even finish the Frieza Saga. They ended it at a flash of Frieza getting cut in half.

This was one of them, though with the FUNimation type. But some, like Ouran, LS, and Soul Eater *unsure if those are popular* are sort of bad, no offence.

They went for such realism, all the characters have accents fitting the time period perfectly, and not only that, since the show is based on American history, all the jokes translate extremely well. Hardly anything really changes from one script to another, and I actually prefer the dub, despite my similar mindset to your own post.

In my opinion I don't think 4kids ruined one piece. First of all one piece is way to awesome to be ruined by anyone. Secondly the 4kids version wasn't meant to make the show more interesting or better or anything like that... They just liked the show and wanted it.. The title "4kids" (for kids) should give it away that there gonna make it more kid friendly.... Takin out blood, Sanji's cigarette, and other shit. In reality though, One Piece the SHOW is very good for kids. The constant theme in the show is to help others, have a strong bond with your friends, and don't judge a book by its cover. Everybody thinks that Luffy and his gang are the bad guys because the term "Pirate" has a bad rap in the seas. But in the end, they're the good guys. I would agree with 4kids if they removed SOME blood, but they did WAY more than that. Not only that, but they scrapped off some very important episodes.

I actually read that 4kids got the rights to One Piece as a bit of a bundle package with some other anime. They didn't really want it in the first place, but Toei Animation gave it to them anyway. One of the heads of 4kids said that the whole fiasco ruined what little good reputation the company had with anime fans.

Whilst some of the edits were unneccesary and to be hoenst when I watched this show when it first came on, I actually liked it and was the reason I am still interested in watching one piece (Funimation version).
But this is the one thing I don't understand, but I truly think people need to get a life when they claim that one piece 4Kids dub suck because they took out Sanji's cigerette like -_-, like gee.. it's not that serious.

Looking back, when I was younger, I watched the version with Sanji eating a lollipop and at that time it wasn't a big deal. Which is why I think 4kids even bothers, they know that the majority of people watching their version are retarded preteens who'll forget the show even exists after the episode is over. They know the *real* fans are going to find the good version on their own and are gonna be willing to fund the franchise in their own way. 4kids and fox are just looking for a temp audience
